Touring Plans for May - Input appreciated (updated)!

Okay, not sure we can change now.

Tuesday, MK Early EMH - Yellow.
Wednesday, MK Late EMH - Red
Thursday off
Friday, HS late EMH - Red
Sat, AK early EMH - Yellow
Sunday, EP - Yellow.

I looked to change our Wednesday and Friday to solve the reds; BUT....we planed for BOG dinner for Wednesday. We cannot get that reservation any other day. If we move HS to Wednesday we can get the Fantasmic package still. How much is the crowd difference? So far, the main thing we worked on is where we want ADRs, and we pegged all those we wanted. Little disappointed that the crowd calendar changed from when we booked our ADRs.

No, we would go from four red days (all with EMH) on Tues, Weds, Fri, Sat, to two red days. Just keeping Tues/Weds as is, Thursday off, flip Friday and Sat.

I was going by what you listed in that first post, where there were only two reds listed. So is THIS what your original plans were based on, or were these predictions based on a change from your first post?

Some people think EMH are horrible, but from what we saw, morning EMH made no noticeable difference at all, and again, that was on crowd level 8/9 days.
EMH doesn't always have a hugely noticeable effect on crowds when it's very busy, but it definitely does when the crowds are lower.

Original:

Mon Arrive, Raglan ADR
Tuesday, MK Early EMH, RT ADR - Red.
Wednesday, MK Late EMH, BOG ADR - Red
Thursday off - HDDR ADR
Friday, HS late EMH, Minnie Fantasmic ADR - Red
Sat, AK early EMH, Boathouse ADR - Red
Sunday, EP, SAI ADR - Green.

New (proposed)

Mon Arrive, Raglan ADR
Tuesday, MK Early EMH, RT ADR - Red.
Wednesday, MK Late EMH, BOG ADR - Red
Thursday off, HDDR ADR
Friday, AK, no EMH, unknown ADR - Green,
Sat, HS, no EMH, Minnie Fantasmic ADR - Green
Sunday, EP, SAI ADR - Green.

Note that my first post used crowd data from UT, not easywdw and UT has yellow for many days vs green.

Posted in another thread, but at HS they have the new Star Wars fireworks, but it only shows through mid March. Any idea if those will likely be extended? for HS, the park is open from 9am - 8:30pm, Fantasmic at 9pm. Planning ADR for Minnie' Fantasmic and considering later, like 7:00pm vs a 6pm dinner. But, I don't want to be in dinner during the fireworks if they will be on.

Of the 2, I'd go with the second option.

Updated our reservations and my first post to reflect the new plan, as listed a couple posts above. Thanks for the opinions thus far, I'm glad we were able to flip a couple of the days around. Lost the Boathouse due to the expected new ROL at AK and got an ADR for Boma at 6:30pm (pending new times for restaurants at AK).

Howdy all.

Revisiting this thread. Our Fastpast day is this Wednesday or Thursday (not sure it's the 10th at Midnight, I assume that means the 9th at Midnight when it becomes the 10th.).

I revised our daily plan and fastpasts. Could any of you comment on our fast pass plans? We have a 9 year old boy and 5 year old girl and are visiting for the first time. Trying to "do it all" but also to take many many in park breaks. Any tips, help, comments, are very appreciated.

The biggest thing that stands out to me is the morning until midnight MK day...I like the evenings the best in the parks so I may be biased, but I would arrive to the park late afternoon (can't remember what time your ADR is) and stay for EMH. I know we'd never make a morning until midnight day. Touring Disney can be exhausting and, no matter how much I read before the first trip, I was still blown away be the shear size.

The other thing I noticed was there was no plan for ToT or RnRC (unless I missed it)? Is that by design?

POR is our favorite resort. We have stayed in a royal room the last two times. If you up for it, there is a nice walking path between POR and POFQ. On our arrival day, we head over there for beignets. You can also ride the boat. POR has a great create your own pasta station for dinner if you find yourself back at the resort. Have fun!!

EMH doesn't always have a hugely noticeable effect on crowds when it's very busy, but it definitely does when the crowds are lower.

So when crowds are lower, EMH makes them a lot worse, or better? If worse, then it's better to avoid EMH if you are going at a lower crowd time, even if you have hoppers? I am going the same week as OP and this planning is killing me. :surfweb:

First off, I'd use Open Table to make that Raglan Road dinner reservation on your first night. For starters, it's a real reservation, not an ADR, so you might be seated more promptly. Secondly, because it is made directly through the restaurant and not through Disney, there is no associated $10 guarantee. If you don't make an ADR, you are charged $10 per person. If you miss an Open Table reservation, no big deal. I recommend this simply because it's your arrival day. If your airline messes you up, you miss a flight/connection, someone is travel sick, etc., it won't matter if you miss the Open Table reservation, or call to cancel. Having an ADR through Disney means you'll lose $10 per person if you are a no-show.

We've been to WDW so many times, I've lost count, but I think we have 27 trips under our belts. When I plan a trip, I look at crowd calendars first (haven't used UT's- I use touringplans.com, kennythepirate, or the one here on the DIS) and pick my park days that way- but also take into account that we love to do late EMH at the MK. Once I pick a park, I plan our ADRs. We usually have breakfast in our room, and one TS meal a day, either lunch or dinner, depending on our plans and availability- but usually it's a dinner TS meal.

I know that we are not morning people, so morning EMHs (as well as rope-drop) are never part of our plans. We try to be on a bus by 10am, stay all day and into the night, remembering to take frequent breaks in the afternoon heat. If MK is open until midnight or later, we might not go into the park until around noon, and we plan a sleep-in morning for the next day. Taking a break back at the room is a HUGE time-eater, and at WDW, time=money!

I consider myself experienced in visiting WDW, but FP+ and ADRs have changed my game plan a little bit. When planning our last trip, I set up my park schedule at touringplans.com. I told them which park, what we wanted to see, balanced walking and waiting, and let them give me a schedule. I think moved things around so we toured in a logical rotation, booking the FP+ that they recommended. It worked very well for us at HS, and I think we saw everything we wanted and more. We had park hopper tickets for that trip, so it was nice that we were at HS on an evening EMH day; we started our day by arriving at HS at 10:30, left after a 6pm FP+ (fourth of the day) at the Great Movie Ride, took the boat for dinner at Biergarten in Epcot (but could have eaten on the Boardwalk if we hadn't had hoppers, or less time), then back to DHS to see Osborne lights and for DD22 to catch a couple more rides (ToT and RnRC) during EMH- although she'd done them during the day, too. I was pleased that I'd used the touring plan. This might be helpful for you, if for nothing more than to give you some idea of how long to allow for different attractions and help you think about FP+ choices, even if you don't stick religiously to the plan (we varied a bit, day-of, but it helped me think through the whole thing).

I don't know if your kids are into characters, but if they are, it's usually worth the expense of character buffets. They will meet 4-6 characters during the hour or so that you are eating. You'll spend more time than that waiting in all the character lines, and you'll still have to plan time to eat. As I said, time=money, so for a few years, we found character meals to be money well spent.

If you find yourselves bored on the off day, take a bus to MK, then ferry to the TTC and ride the monorail to Epcot and back. It's free, and if you are staying onsite and using the bus system, your kids aren't going to get to ride the monorail. It's fun, and it'll keep them busy and feel like they are doing something "Disney" before going to HDDR that evening. I am not sure of the logistics, but you might be able to take some sort of transportation from MK to HDDR... you should look into that.

I know these are going to be very long days. Very long. That is why we are planning our means and FP, and then winging it otherwise. Well, we will have an idea of what attractions to see, what snacks to get, etc., but we are trying to remain open and flexible. If the kids cannot make it all day, so be it. But, we plan to take long and many breaks, but taking them in park vs heading to the room.

At HS we have to FP either RnRC or ToyStory. No brainer for us to go ToyStory. Daughter is too short for RnRC but son and I may jump on it if the line and time permits. I don't envision them being big into coasters, but I'll let them decide. ToT is on our plans, but we are undecided for a FP or not, in part we are undecided if the kids will be up for it. Son maybe, he is older but he is less adventurous. Daughter is only 5 but more adventurous. I'd hate to FP and have them chicken out.

It's crazy trying to figure this all out. We selected all days where the parks had EMH at first, then, due to this thread changed some of the days to non-EMH. Kept the MK days at EMH and dropped HS, AK and Epcot. Who knows, but our plan is locked in now. I'm resolved to the fact that we will have fun no matter what.

Good luck to us both! I think you have done a very thorough job; it's a planning nightmare.

We don't have youngsters anymore, but on arrival day, we make an ADR at a resort or Disney Springs. We usually do go to a park but we don't plan to arrive until much later than our intended arrival time. We try to do something less stressful--like watching Wishes from outside MK or enjoying a boat ride. The parks are fun but can be overwhelming if we don't pace ourselves.

I don't really have anything to add (we are going the same time as you) but I was under the impression that only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open during MK AM EMH and I saw that you were planning to head towards Adventureland...

Got the FP+ last night. Much easier than I expected thanks to this forum and the wonderful detailed information on how the process works. Now, can you guys/gals critique our daily plans; please?

Monday - Depart

We are staying at POR, but don't intend to take a break at the resort during the day. So, I need to plan some break times and snack times each day. Part of the FP+ plan was attempting to have something leisurely in the afternoon.

Q1: RD or Pan, I'm assuming not as many will RD Pan, thus we should be okay to actually watch the RD, and to take in all that is MK as we walk in, take a family photo, etc. and not have to mad dash to get a short wait at Pan?

Q2: I'm not sold on a FP+ for Enchanted tails, but I'm unsure what else to FP+. I booked all four for this; but assume my DS9 won't want to see A&E, and assume my DD5 won't want to do SpMt. From reviews it seems many don't like SpMt.

Q3: I tried to have FP+ not too early, so we get max value from them, but early enough that we might be able to get a 4th or 5th FP+ for less priority rides, even if to save 10 minutes.

Q4: I'm just not sure I'm happy with the AK day. Ideally we want to hit the Safari in the morning, before it warms up thinking animals will be more active, but kept a FP+ later (near dinner time at TH); do people like to do this twice?? We are not sure the kids will be into EpEverest, so I didn't FP+ it, but I'm not sure. Then, it seems we are walking a lot between stuff here, and I'm trying to figure out a route for the shows and other activities.

Q5: HS - again I'm not sure I'm happy yet. Jedi, TSMM and Star Tours are priority. I don't have RnRC on here yet, but expect DS and I will go (maybe child swap this). I FP+ ToT though I think the kids will be too scarred of this, DW thinks they will enjoy it.

Q6: Epcot - I was debating to schedule FP+ for Test Track earlier to spend more time in the World. But, I'm not sure how long the ride part of EP takes. Test Track, Mission Space and Sum of all Thrills are top priority.

Q7: Epcot - We have Dinner Res for SAI. But, I'd debating dropping that and just eating our way through the World and splitting different samplers. But then, I read some less than enthusiastic reviews of the F&G food stations. So, I'm unsure.

Any general comments, things or ideas I'm missing, timing problems you see? I'm happy to have gotten FP+ for A&E and for 7DMT. I was sure we would not get those. Also assuming a RD for Pan will not be an issue since most will hit other attractions.

the more I look the more I think AK and HS plans have me walking across the parks too much. I need to think about this a bit.

For touringplans, I always rearrange so I'm not crisscrossing.

Also, for the first MK day watching FoF parade, from research I recommend the area near Pecos Bills, Country Bear Jam, or some shooting game. That's where we are planning to be :)
