tough to be a bug closed

My son was not scared of anything either BEFORE we went in ITTBAB:scared1: He doesn't mind it now, but we couldn't get anywhere near that tree for the longest time after that first time, and he has been scared of stinging insects since then.

My kids are older and love this show. We will not be able to see it because we will be in WDW 8/25 for 6 nights. That's during it's closure. Oh well what can you do? I do think it's very scary for kids under 7.

Mine neither, DKs or DGKs..:confused3 They love it!

I heard screams and squeals, like on a roller coaster, etc., but never any crying.:confused3

I've heard kids screaming in terror....and let me tell you it's awful. :sad2: This poor little guy next to me once (who looked about 4) was screaming that he wanted to leave. His parents kept saying, "no, this isn't scary, it's fun" The kid replied with more screaming and kept saying " I want to go HOME!! I WANT TO GO HOME!!" Stupid parents kept laughing and saying it was "funny". I wanted to punch the parents for making that poor kid stay in there. Let me tell you it was hard for me to enjoy myself with that poor scared kid next to me, but apparently his parents weren't concerned. :confused3

There are TONS of things he can enjoy. Don't think about what he can't do, think about what he can do. My gosh, I have a broken neck and find Animal Kingdom to be a complete day. Tons of walking trails and animals, tons of shows (do not pass up Flights of Wonder). So he can't do thrill rides or now It's Tough to be a Bug. Focus on giving him what he can do and forget about the rest. He won't care and he won't know. You are the one doing all the negative.

We haven't been to that show since my ds was 3.5 and I had to take him and dd1 out screaming. Scared him so bad he refused to see any shows the rest of the trip - and that happened on day 1.

He can do the Boneyard, the Triceritop Spin, the Safari, Lion King Show, Nemo Show, train to Conservation Station, bird show and all of the walking trails. Really the only thing you will miss is Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest which he will be too short for and this show which probably would have scared him.

I agree that there is SO MUCH you can do with a young one to make a full day at AK! I could easily spend a couple of days there on one trip, just doing the shows, trails, and soaking in the atmosphere.

I also agree that ITTBAB is scary for a lot of kids. It's an in-your-face and right-on-your-seat type of scare! I've never not seen at least a couple of kids screaming during each movies we've been to. Even if it were open, I'd skip it with a child under 3. JMHO.

Lots of kids go to that show. Usually several are carried out. Others just don't like the spiders. But I can't say I think it is traumatically frightening for MOST children. Same thing used to happen in the Tiki Room New Management - whenever the voodoo goddess showed up there would be a couple of little kids carried out. They were likely afraid of the thunderclap effects and darkness. That is also the issue with ITTBAB - loud noises and darkness, and the audience screaming when they are "stung"

Plus the fact that you're trapped in a dark room with scary stuff everywhere and the kids have no idea when it's going to end.

No way would I take a 2 year old in there....

And it's quite loud for the little ones.

My boys were TERRIFIED of the show. My older son was afraid of everything, my other was never afraid of anything...until this show.

It's an entertaining show but I tell my friends with younger kids not to take them into it. It's a shame because I've not been able to see it for a number of years now because of my kids. It's a fun show.

I heard many genuinely upset screams/wails/sobs when I saw it. There were plenty of people screaming with laughter, but there were several kids who couldn't handle it and had to be carried out.

I could do without the stinging part on the seat, myself!

I think you will have a wonderful time at Animal Kingdom, even without ITTAB (which I'm afraid of, so I don't ever do). AK is one of my DS's favorite parks! He LOVES the safari, and all the walking trails, especially the fish and hippo tank. He also really enjoys triceratops spin, and it is great because the line is usually MUCH, MUCH shorter than Dumbo.

The two shows (Nemo and Lion King) are also great for toddlers, they are so colorful and the music is wonderful. If you get to sit up front at Lion King your child may even be able to participate in the show!

Also, don't forget the boneyard and dig site! I think most toddlers could happily spend a whole day playing there!

I also think there are some really great character interactions at AK! I just love the character trails at Camp Minnie Mickey, its fun to see the traditional characters in different costumes.

I'm sorry a show you were really looking forward to is going to be closed, but I promise that there are so many other things for your little one to enjoy, you might not even notice the absence of ITTAB!

My kids have been going to this since they were very little, they like OP child are afraid of nothing. When they were very little we held them in our laps so that they didn't get stung but aside from that they loved it. When is it closing? We are going at the end of August as well and will miss it if it is closed.

Closed 8/15-9/30 Guess we need to go at the beginning of our trip.

UGH! They are closing Tough to be a Bug when we are there at the end of August! We have a 23 month old and that was one of the few things he can do there and enjoy!!

I'm sorry that IITTBAB is will be closed while you are there but there are lots of things for 23 month old to do besides that attraction. We weren't in AK for a whole day because this was the day we had to drive back home, but most of the time was spent in the boneyard and we had to pull them out of there. They also loved the safari. You will still have a great time at AK don't worry

I've been on It's tough to be a Bug many times and was just looking forward to taking him. Even I like going on it every time we go and I think he would of done fine. All my kids did fine on it even they were smaller. I'm just sad that it will be closed. I know things close but so far nothing was cancelled that we do- but now things are coming up. Primeval(?) Whirl will be closed too.

It needs the refurb. The last couple times I have been Hopper hasn't worked AT ALL. It is really bad show. I'm looking forward to him getting fixed.

My daughter did it twice, first time she LOVED it (she was 3) second time when she was 5 she was scared to death...kids are weird sometimes LoL.
I think the thing that did her in was when all that smoke came from the "extermination" and she couldn't see a hand in front of her.

OP I saw that there a few things going to be closed in Aug. Even Voyage of the Little Mermaid too.

:scared1: But my kids screamed and hid under us the first and only time they did this attraction:rotfl: Thank goodness they were on our lap when the stingers came because I am not sure what they would have done then.

So we won't be going on this ride for quite some time:rolleyes1

He is not scared of anything so I don't think that would be an issue.

We took DD there for her 1st trip and she was 21 months old. It was one of the 1st atttractions we did. She was okay with the lights and bugs, but suddenly when the large bug (I don't even remember what it was) dropped down and it was really loud she wigged out and started screaming. After that shecried every time the lights went out at a show (which she had never done before). So after we had to skip the Nemo show, FOTLK, and even Turtle Talk with Crush because she sensed show was starting and she wanted OUT!

I am sorry you will miss something you wanted, but it may be a blessing in disguise!
I hopeyou have a wonderful trip!

I could do without the stinging part on the seat, myself!

All you have to do is sit up on the seat and not have your "back" against the seat back.

I heard the same complaints about HISTA and the lab mice. Realistically, people jumped with surprise, but most knew it was just for effect. (no real mice) It is difficult for me to understand how adults can react the way they do. I felt it the first time I was there and, although startled, I knew what it was about immediately and I thought it was extremely clever and funny.

That fog scene freaked me out, too! :scared1: That was last year when I went. The fog was so thick you couldn't see anything, and I even had trouble breathing (don't know if it was in my head or not). This year, I sat closer to the side, and it didn't seem like there was as much fog. I don't know if it's because a lesser amount comes out on the side of the theater or just a lesser amount came out during that show.
