tough to be a bug closed

I am 20 and it still scares to me death. I was dragged on when I was much younger and it freaked me out so much. I have not been in again. I shop or wander around my family sees it.

The fog was so thick you couldn't see anything, and I even had trouble breathing (don't know if it was in my head or not).

I have had that sensation too! For me, it almost felt like someone had taken my breathe away. It's hard to explain. I have done this show many, many times and do enjoy it, but that time (at least once, if not a couple of times) it was unnerving - the feeling like I couldn't catch my breath.

Odd...

I've never heard any kids crying/screaming about it, however my friend Madison who is 16 years old was close to tears for the entire show. :upsidedow

Yes, I felt like I was suffocating! And it's only happened that one time. I think there was more fog than usual, but I will still probably try to sit on the side of the theater from now on since I had a better experience there. Also, if it does happen again, I can make a mad dash for the exit!

Im disappointed too! I have not been there since 2005 and I remember loving it!! I wish I could take my youner cousins on it(they are 4 and 2).

And anyway not every child is scared of this ride!! I remember gonig on it when I was 5 and my brother was 2 and I didn't mind it. it was not my favorite thing because I hate bugs but I did not scream or anything :P

hhmm.. we have always dubbed it "the screaming kids" show. we try to sit away from families with little kids, since we know there will be crying.... esp. after mom or dad screams after being "stung".

for little kids, it can be very scary. unlike the movie (well, except for the part with the bird with the big beak trying to eay little dot (just watched it again 2 nights ago with my 5 year old grandson)

My daughter went on the Hulk at IOA this year and loved it but she hates "its tought to be a bug". Obviously there is an issue with children on this attraction, hopefully they correct it!

There are plenty of things for your child to do at 23 months! It won't hinder you trip much probably. Also I have to add one of my girls to the list of screaming kids that run out of the theater. My DD 7 when she was 2 she wasn't afraid of anything either, so we took her in and she freaked right out! She won't go into any type of dark ride or 3D show at all now, and we go to Disney twice a year from Maine. We are compromising this trip in September where she has to come in but doesn't have to wear the glasses because our DD4 wants to do the shows again but we didn't take her into tough to be a bug until she was older and we prepared her. Even though it scared her it didn't scar her like it did our oldest because at the time we didn't know how she would react to all the effects. Every child is different but I really wish we would have waited until she was older to expose her to that because now shes afraid and it breaks my heart to have any kid afraid of anything at Disney. Its supposed to be fun and light hearted not something you fear. Good Luck. :thumbsup2

Sometimes, I wonder, if a child's fear is projected by the parent? Are they taught to be afraid of loud noises, bugs and the dark?

We do this attraction regularly, it's odd... never noticed, the mass exodus of terrified, crying children,:confused3

Yea...and I have told everyone, millions of times...never exaggerate!:rotfl:

Seriously, I agree. I have been many, many times and although I have seen some kids that needed to be taken out, it hasn't been many. I'm not saying that the PP post isn't what they observed, but it certainly hasn't been my experience.

Sadly, it is stuff like that the kills an attraction. People read it and are afraid to go to it. It dies! I feel strongly that a little time spent with the child explaining that it is a show and nothing will hurt them, the less likely it will be that they will melt down.

I honestly think that many people are in their own little world that they don't notice the kid screaming in terror one row ahead. :confused3 My DH doesn't, and he would tell people that he's never seen a kid crying in the show.

We took dd on ITTBAB during our first trip when she had just turned 4...she LOATHES that ride...it's been 4 years and many trips later and she will ride every coaster at Disney but still flat out refuses to go into ITTBAB.

Not necessarily - see my post above about my dd, but this is also the child who picks up bugs, isn't afraid of bees, and has never wanted a nightlight (even to the point of us having to tape of the tiny LED on her monitor because it was "too bright")....

DS is 15 and he still is terrifed of ITTBAB. We watched in when we went in 2003 and he was 7, it terrified him. He didn't scream or beg to leave assome other kids were doing but eight years later he still refuses to go back on it.

That reminds me of my very stoic youngest daughter. Our first trip to WDW she was 6 years old. We went on everything we could and I never heard a single complaint or whine out of her.

Jump ahead about 4 years when we were again able to go to WDW. I said to her...since we have already seen most everything there is there anything that you really want to see again. She immediately said...Haunted Mansion! Really, I said, I never heard you talk about that in all this time. Her reply...that was because I had my eyes closed the whole time so I never really saw it. Gotta love the mind of a 6 year old.

If I don't see it...it's not there!

When DS12 was 2, AK was his favorite park. Some of his favorite things included:
1) The Safari - This was his favorite ride the whole trip
2) Festival of the Lion King
3) The Maharajah Jungle Trek (particularly the bats - The Count from Sesame Street was his favorite character)

Also, FWIW - My kids have never been freaked out by ITTBAB. DD didn't like it much when she was 4, but she was OK with just closing her eyes when she didn't like it. That said, even if a toddler isn't freaked out by it, it is certainly not something geared for that age group.

OP - Have a fabulous trip!:simba:
