Tornado Damage In Indiana/Kentucky

We live about 45 minutes from Newburgh. DH's cousin lives there and lost her home in the tornado. We went there yesterday to help with clean up, and the pictures on the news just don't say enough. Entire second stories of homes and apartment buildings.....gone. Brick homes like our cousins, destroyed. She was in bed when the tornado hit and was blown out of her bed onto the floor, but no injuries for her or her husband. We heard the sirens during the night, but the tornado didn't develop until the storm had passed our home.

The death toll has risen to 22, including a family of a father, mother, 4 year old son, and the mother was pregnant. So very sad.

Cabmom....I'm not surprised that you couldn't get through on the cell phone yesterday. I tried to use mine while in Newburgh yesterday, and kept getting the "all circuits are busy" signal. Hope you hear something soon.

My sorority was driving back from our formal Indianapolis as the storm was starting. The wind had knocked out the power to our house while we were gone. My boyfriend and I were driving 231 from Greencastle to Crawfordsville and watched the lightening get stronger and stronger and stronger. We got a nasty nasty storm and a lot of wind. We were definitely worried about tornadoes and were prepared to head to the basement if we had to. Both of us our weather geeks so we watched the storm closely.
Our weather has been very odd this fall and unfortunately it doesnt seem to be quitting anytime soon.

Yes. The storms were also quite strong in Indy. And 70 degrees tomorrow - in November?!?

They just started a service here that will pinpoint the warning to a pretty small area and put through an automated phone call to home (that sign up for the service) that are in the affected area. Pretty cool.

We have a weather alert radio in our bedroom just for that fact. Always alerts us of impending weather.

We have a weather alert radio in our bedroom, too. When we bought ours, we also bought one for my parents and the inlaws. The inlaws returned theirs.

I have a ton of relatives in Evansville and Newburgh. Hope they're all okay.
