Top Chef Chicago (Spoiler Thread)

Good season opener! Glad Nimma was booted. Her attitude when they got to their was house was kind of snotty. Besides, she seemed to me like she'd rather be sleeping...even the way she talks.

Oh, and Andrew, MFs is not an adjective to be used to describe everyone and everything you come in contact with. Not to mention the rest of his "slang" lingo. I hope he goes soooooon!

I liked the winner, whose name escapes me at the moment.:)

The way she talked was oneof the main reasons I wanted her gone! It kinda made me want to shake her! :teeth:

Stephanie, I think.

I think it's going to be a good season. I've been watching since season 1 and every year I think "I'm not going to like this group as much as I did last year." But I'm proven wrong every year! I loved C.J. from last season. I loved his sense of humor. "Oh, Big time!"

I thought the episode was good, and I definitely agree with sending Nimma home. Ryan seems a bit slow on the uptake - not because he didn't know what it was, but every time the judges tried to explain it to him, he just looked baffled. The guy who keeps swearing (Andrew?) seems annoying.

It looks like a great season all in all.

I agree with everyone that Nimma should have gone home. They kicked off someone in season 2 for oversalting too.
I was so happy to see Bourdain as a judge, but I miss Gail. I don't know why but Padma irritates me. Did anyone read the blogs on Bravo? Ted referred to Mark as "that dude from the 70s show". Very funny.
Great show and I'm excited for the rest of the season.

The thing that bugs me about her is her lazy speech. She often slurs her words and doesn't enunciate her consonants, I think she thinks it sounds sexy. I think she sounds "luded out".......Can I say that on the DIS?:confused3

I felt bad for the New Zealand guy. They all got berated for not knowing the classics - but they were all AMERICAN classics. I feel he's going to have a hard time in the upcoming weeks.
I don't agree - doesn't he live (and cook) in New York now?

And if it had been up to me, I would have sent Richard home JUST for hogging the deep-dish pans :lmao:

Can I jump in? I did not want to peek here earlier because I had not seen the episode yet.

I agree that Nimma should be the first to go, even if this is a competition deciding at the get go that you have not need to socialize is nuts! How on Earth can you size up your opponents if you are sleeping? :confused3

I am not sure who I like yet, it takes a while for any on them to grow on me but I am sure these personalities are going to make it interesting.

Seriously, Nimma was asleep! Just watched the episode last night. I can never stay up late enough on Wednesdays ;) . So excited to have Top Chef back. I love Chef Tom.

I remember reading some articles or blogs from last season's contestants about how Padma likes the sauce, if you know what I mean.

This season looks good. The guy from Le Cirque is not making himself look good with his attitude and swearing. Can you say "trying to hard"?

I've eaten at Manual's restaurant in New York City. Although there are 2 locations so it might not have been his. Either way, that place is delicious and if you are in the city and craving Mexican, it's a great place to go.

And wow, there are a lot of chefs from San Francisco this season, right?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Although I could have let any of the final 3 go, I was hoping more that it would be her.

What was with the deconstructed duck? That was just weird.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. ;)

Does anyone know if the producers knew the two women were a couple when they cast the show? Or was it just really fortunate that the two of them both got selected? Seems like too much of a coincidence.

I read the blogs on Bravotv and it sounded like there used to be a rule that excluded contestants who knew each other but that has changed. I got the impression that their relationship was disclosed to the producers ahead of time.

Gotcha -- thanks! :thumbsup2

Finally got to watch this morning (thank you DVR) and I'm glad that Nimma went home. She just didn't seem to be into it and even her dish looked very very basic compared to everyone elses.

I finally saw it, too. I have to agree about Nimma--she just seemed very underwhelming. And her dish seemed nothing like a shrimp scampi.

I don't like the fact that there's a "couple" in the group. They know each other's styles, and might be inclined to help each other, directly or indirectly. One of them has to go first--I can't see it being great for their relationship, either.

Yeah, I hate the idea of a couple on the show - the producers probably think it will probably make for "good tv" when they get into fights.

I remembered reading this a little over a year ago (not that it's a great source but it's definitely been out there):

http://www.bestweekever.tv/2007/01/26/bwe-exclusive-padma-lakshmi-is-a-literal-pothead/

BWE Exclusive: Padma Lakshmi Is a Literal Pothead
According to a source who worked on the set of Top Chef, the ex-model turned trophy wife turned hostess Padma Lakshmi allegedly enjoys smoking pot on set, giving a whole new meaning to the term “Quickfire Challenge” — see, cause she’s allegedly lighting up a joint instead of a stove! Anyway. Exactly how often this happened is disputed, though we were assured it was allegedly “fairly regularly.”

But really, is this shocking? An addiction to marijuana would actually serve to explain a lot of strange Padma-related phenoms, such as:

Her large appetite (remember, she’s an ex-model)
Her detached, soulless vocal inflections
Her insane outfit choices
The strainge “itch” she got in the back of her throat during this week’s Hawaiian challenge
Why she speaks soooo slooooowly
Why she married Salman Rushdie
Why she seems high all the time.
