Closest 2 to me are Hartford and Springfield- both about 90min from me.
I live closer to the safest city in the US- Newton, MA - an hour away

hartford and springfield are the closest to me, but springfield is about 3 hours away and hartford probably about 3 hours and half to 4 hours...so no worries for me

Closest here would be Richmond, VA and then DC.

We live about 8 miles from Hartford (No. 7), but i would say that I do not feel unsafe at all. Hartford is a relatively small city (in narea and population) so its crime rate is exaggerated. DW's job takes her all over the city and she is careful but she is not scared to drive there. The problem is mostly in the northendm so we do not go there.

Also, in our town, you can still leave your doors unlocked during the day and your car open in parking lots without a problem. So I would not put much weight in these listings. Jay

Could be. You do learn what areas of a city to avoid. Even when I lived in Boca Raton, FL we had notices come from the Sheriff's office that they would hold a class in our development due to a home invasion. I can tell you I no longer left my doors wide open after that! Could be anywhere at any time. And it was a gated/guarded community.
