Toothpaste and deordorant??

Do your deordorant(white solid) and toothpaste have to be in your 3-1-1 bag? They both hold their shape so they are not a liquid. right??

Solid deodarant does not have to be in your 3-1-1 bag.

Toothpaste is, whether regular or gel. It is still considered a liquid.

Solid deodorant - no. Roll-on or gel - yes

Toothpaste - yes, it does not hold its shape out of the tube.

Basically the thing they are looking for is there a possibility explosives could be mixed and hidden in the product.

ITA with previous posters...solid deoderant no...liquid or gel yes and toothpaste yes. Make sure the tube holds 3 ozs or less or they will make you squeeze out the extra. My SIL was in tears because she had to dump out some of her expensive conditioner. I felt bad for her but I was like "really?" "you haven't heard about the liquids thing?"

We just put toothpaste into our checked luggage (inside a plastic bag). You will have to have a 100ml or smaller container of it to go in your 311 baggie, and we get natural toothpaste that is hard to find in those containers.

The container is required to be 100ml or 3.something ounces or less. Not a bigger container with 3 oz or less of product. If her container was bigger she should have had to ditch the whole thing. If it's that expensive, check a bag.

Yes, maybe, but I got tagged for my chapstick. It was in my fanny pack and they made me put it in the baggie. Same with DD's sun stick. Fortunately they fit. I truly think it's the TSA screeners who make the final decision. DD lost a pair of toe spacers that she has to wear with her pointe shoes because they were in the carry-on and not checked... they are a gel product. Interestingly, the first time we traveled, she wore them between her toes (AND her gel toe pads... $24 a pair) when going through screening (with socks on) and they never noticed a thing! The next time, she figured OK, whatever, but got tagged for the spacers; toe pads were inside her pointe shoes and were never noticed. However, that time they also pulled a plastic jar of crushed rosin (but let it go through after investigating). The illusion of security...
