Too much food for these Newlyweds Sep. DxDP 11/08

PS- Not that it matters, but just in case any of you were curious....I added a pic of us to the first post!

We loved your reviews of everything but Cal. Grill was wonderful! We have not been back for a while .. since our engagement  This trip will be our 1st so thank you for getting us in the mood for Pork and Polenta! and yes, this does remind us of our engagement! ;)

Enjoying your trip report! I have never eaten at California Grill as i am not much of a sushi person. But I may try it.:thumbsup2

This is another ADR that I wasn't that keen on, because a couple months ago I didn't like steak. then I tried filet mignon and started liking it. I booked it thinking I would get the chicken and just tough it out because DH loves steak.

I thought the ceiling we were underneath was really neat..

We started off with our ice tea, which seemed to be our drink of choice the ENTIRE trip for some reason. I just had to take a picture of what they brought out. Along with the sugar, sweetners and lemon, they brought out a little pitcher of simple sugar to put into your tea to make it sweet tea. How cute!

We were soon brought out the peel apart onion rolls and regular rolls with butter and roasted garlic. All were good though I have to say, I liked the onion with regular butter or regular rolls with garlic. The onion with the garlic was just a little too strong for me.
IMG_0850.jpg

For our apps DH had-Seared Maine Diver Scallops with roasted red peppers, spring onion, arugula and poblano-avocado sauce
IMG_0851.jpg

I had the shrimp cocktail-I have to say I wished they had given a cup of cocktail sauce instead of a little underneath the shrimp, it wasnt enough
IMG_0852.jpg

My Entree-Yachtsman Filet Mignon - 8-ounce Filet with Mashed Potatoes and a Red Wine Sauce
IMG_0854.jpg

DH's entree-New York Strip Steak - 12 oz. Strip Steak with Peppercorn Brandy Sauce and Potato Gratin with Diamond White Cheddar
IMG_0853.jpg

For dessert....Well we skipped dessert. Nothing really stood out to me and we were too full so we told him no thanks. He did then bring us out a few little treats to congratulate us. In the middle were I believe some chocolate caramels and to the outside was like a gummy thing rolled in sugar.

Overall, the meal for me was better than I expected but I didn't expect much. The best part for me was the rolls and tea lol. The shrimp was good, but nothing special, my filet I think was served rare? Like I said I am new to this whole steak thing but i ordered it medium rare and it ended up coming out looking mush inside. None of the other steaks I ordered that week came out quite like this. At one point, sorry for TMI, but I had to spit it out because I thought I was going to choke on it bc it wasnt even hard enough to chew? :confused3 DH on the other hand said his was the best steak of his entire life. The seasoning was great, it was cooked perfectly, he was thrilled. He also really liked his scallops as well. Both potatoes were very good. Overall, I would go back, but would pay OOP and not get apps or desserts.

Next up- Sunrise Safari breakfast @ Pizzafari

Today was our day of "rest." We had our CL breakfast then headed to Downtown disney to do some shopping. First we stopped into Goofy's and I got a pretzel rod with reese's pieces and he got the white chocolate chunk cookie. Actually we went back after lunch and got the exact same thing!!

Strange. The outside of the Filet looks to be well done or blackened. It still can be undercooked inside but it would have had to be a very hot grill to cause that. This review has a feel of "I don't know much about food...but I know what I like!" Count me in for the rest of your trip of discovery. popcorn::

After the Sunrise safari, we went to Pizzafari where in the back room they had tables set up with a buffet breakfast waiting for us. Everything was good, though I wasn't blown away by any means.

This was a bannana stuffed french toast

Most everything was good and fairly standard. There were some unqiue items such as the fried plantains and stuffed french toast, though they were too "unique" for me~!:)

Next up- The WORST meal of the trip. Also included was the dessert that I was looking forward to the most and is a favorite on the Disboards....

Great reviews and what a wonderful picture of both of you! I love your dress! :goodvibes

We loved the Sunrise Safari and the breakfast that went with it. Perhaps it was because we thought we were starving by that point. :thumbsup2

We did too! The safari was the highlight of our trip last Oct and the banana french toast rocked my world!

ooh that stuffed toast looks yummy :thumbsup2

I thought it was good, but since all I mainly ate was ham, bacon, eggs, I couldnt be wowed that much. The stuffed french toast looked good but at the time I was avoiding banannas. I have an IBD and bananas haven't liked me lately and didn't want to end the trip all messed up. DH said it was very good though.

Thanks!

And since the :banana:bananas were the VERY best part of the breakfast I can see that you would not have been overly impressed. Did you get great pictures during the safari? I'm debating doing the safari again or not in January. :confused3

Have you found any other place that has anything quite like it? I have heard CP has a good french toast and that Kona does but are they similar? Never ate at either ......:rolleyes1

Yet! :cool1:

CP has awesome puffed french toast but not with the yummy banana and sauce... DH really likes the tonga toast from Kona but neither are like the banana french toast from the Sunrise Safari....

This pic was quite funny bc the buck had just been let out into the pasture for the first time this morning. The young giraffe found him quite interesting and was following/chasing him around the entire time. The thing *i forgot now what he is called* then began chasing the giraffe!
