Too much food for these Newlyweds Sep. DxDP 11/08

Let me start off by saying that I was really looking forward to this meal....I had heard the rave reviews and couldn't wait!

IMG_1048.jpg

To start off i had the "Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce"
IMG_1041.jpg

DH- "Pork Egg Rolls - chili plum dipping sauce"
IMG_1042.jpg

My entree-"Tempura Shrimp - chili plum sauce, coconut-ginger rice, stir fried vegetables" I had them take off the rice and the vegables and subbed the chicken fried rice for 2.50...seemed a little steep since I was subbing two items for this one plus an upcharge, but oh well.
IMG_1044.jpg

DH-"Crispy Mahi Mahi - filet of mahi mahi, Japanese bread crumbs, Cantonese sweet and sour sauce, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables"
IMG_1043.jpg

My dessert-"Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle"
IMG_1045.jpg

DH- "Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce"
IMG_1046.jpg

So now onto the review....This was defintely the worst meal of the trip. To start off I had the green beans. My first bite I told DH how great it was. After a couple minutes I realized I couldnt really taste any green beans. So the taste was fine, but how long can someone really eating breading? Most of that went to waste. Dh had the pork egg rolls and he said they were very good, the best thing about the whole lunch. I originally was going to order the ribs and should have stuck with that, but the shrimp looked good. They were were somewhat tastless and slightly soggy. The fried rice was pretty good. Dh did not like the mahi mahi and didn't finish it, which for him is odd. I do not specifically remember what he didn't like, it may have been the red sauce which did it in? Onto the dessert. To begin...I had been dreaming about these fried wontons, salivating at what I thought they were going to taste like. A local chinese place has the best crab ragoon, slightly sweet and they are huge and have a lot of cream cheese, which I personally liked. When i read about yak & yeti, I thought that was what this would be like. Boy was I wrong...They was hardly anything actually in the wontons!! It was just mainly eating the skin part. The best part was the pineapple,I was just really disapointed. Dh thought the mango pie was okay , wasnt too thrilled. Sorry to ramble so, just thought a negative review deserved explanation! Next up-Jiko!

Glad to read your review. My "idea" of the wontons would have been like yours as well. Our local Chinese restaurant has crab ragoon also with a ton of filling in them. Sooo yummy.

Very interesting, I booked Yak & Yeti for a diinner during our Christmas trip This is not the first review I have seen that has a very similar experience. This maybe a night to step off site head to Gaylord Palms to see the ice and then eat off site. Again thanks much for taking the time and photographs. It's extremely helpful.

Yum! Everything looks delicious! The steak sounds delicious! I am such a steak person...did you order your steaks medium rare all week? I wonder if you would've liked medium more? :confused3

I did order them medium rare all week. What is weird is that I was reading another review of Yachstmen last week and she made the remark that her filet was "mushy." Which is exactly how i felt! if you a

Thank you all for your kind words...Didnt mean to sound like a pity party, I've had a report before go nowhere fast and part of me was wondering if this one was too. :) Glad to see its not!
I'm really enjoying your reviews too, but I'm one of those people that lurk more then post. I'll post once, to subscribe to the thread, but usually won't post after that unless I have a question. Just check and see how many views you've had, and you'll see plenty of people are reading along. :goodvibes

That's so weird!! I wouldn't want that, especially since I order all my steaks medium rare! this definitely bumps Yachtsman down on my signature meals list to try!

Don't take it completely off the list! Almost everything is worth a try once and DH couldnt stop talking bout the New York striP!

Jiko was a really neat experience, though I will fully admit I'm not sure I would make it back here. The service was wonderful and the food was prepared well, I just think it was a tad exotic for my tastebuds. DH on the other hand did like it, though he said it definitely wasn't in his tops. So while we may not come back I would encourage others to try it, different strokes :thumbsup2

My app: "Barbecue Chicken Flatbread - With grilled onion, apple, African barbecue sauce, and four cheeses"
IMG_1083.jpg

Dh's-"Pokanoket Farm Seared Ostrich Filet - with creamed sweet potatoes and pomegranate gastrique"
IMG_1082.jpg

Our entrees-"Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce"
IMG_1084.jpg

My dessert-"S'mores and More -- Build your own with marshmallow fluff, peanut butter, melted chocolate, and graham crackers" This was actually on the kids menu, though I think they may have tweaked what it is because I came to me already done up in a fancy way and the menu description was different.

DH's-"Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake - With chocolate ganache, amarula sauce, and lavender ice cream."
IMG_1086.jpg

So the flatbread for me was a stretch, I'm not usually a big mixer of tastes all together and the apples with the bbq sauce seemed crazy to me. It somehow worked! I did pick off half of the apples because there were way too many and and it seemed that was all I could taste. DH said the filet was good and very rich. We both liked the filet, DH said it tasted very lean :confused3 I think next time I would maybe do the sauce on the side and it was a little overpowering to me. His dessert was good, though a little too rich, I don't think he finished it. Mine was okay. Nothing special but not bad either. Not sure we will come back here for awhile, but the atmosphere was great!!! Next up is Whispering canyone breakfast!

Just found your reviews today, I'm really enjoying them. Sorry to hear you didnt like Y&Y, I've never tried it yet but hope to on my next trip. Keep up the good work. :goodvibes

I loved visiting Wilderness Lodge and hope to be staying there next year! As for the breakfast....ehhh I probably would have liked a breakfast crossaint from Roaring Forks better! It wasn't bad, it just was a tad "blah" to me. The atmosphere was okay, but couldnt be that exciting with only 3 other tables in there. Everything was fine, but it was just your standard breakfast fare, nothing stood out as great except maybe the mickey waffles. I would really like to go back and try dinner next time...

Next up is some drinks/snacks and then my last review- Lecellier!

Really enjoying your reviews. It's a shame about Yak and Yeti, I thinking about booking there, but I now feel it is somewhere I should give a miss.

Great reviews :thumbsup2

WOW, what a view at California Grill  Can't wait to try it in a few weeks time :cool1:

Looking forward to reading more :thumbsup2

Don't worry, I won't take it completely off! :goodvibes I'll just probably try other sig. restaurants first...like Jiko now that I know you can get ostrich there! I love ostrich! I'm worried about it being too exotic for my tastes too, but like you, I think everything is worth trying once!!

I agree...WCC breakfast does look blah. Oh well.

Can't wait for more!

Just caught up with your reviews and have really enjoyed them. You are so lucky to have gotten to try so many signature restaurants. I agree with you about the rice krispy treats at Disney. To me they just don't have a whole lot of taste. Also I was disappointed to hear about your Yak and Yeti meal. I have read many reviews lately of soggy food there. We have an ADR there next trip and I am going to ask our food be served crispy.

Congratulations on your recent wedding!

Great pictures and great reviews! Thanks for sharing. We are staying CL in Nov/Dec and can't wait for the Sunrise Safari!

Thanks for the reviews. They were great! We'll be staying at the AKL concierge level again this Jan. I can't wait! Sorry to hear about Yak and Yeti. Congratulations!

Thanks! I am going to try the fresh rice krispies next time, to see if that makes a difference on taste.

You will both enjoy CL....My favorite thing was their smoked gouda cheese :thumbsup2

Thought I would post a couple more snacks that I had pictures of. To be honest, most of our snacks consisted of smart water for DH. We just didn't have much room. The beer Dh didnt like so much, but drank it all, so couldn't have been that bad. The grey goose slushie was good, though I would only drink it in colder weather from now on. We had to stop because it was melting faster than I could drink it and was sloshing all over the place. Finally after 3 minutes it was all liquid and I just chugged. The funnel cake was a picture I took of their examples while I waited. this was from sleepy hollow, where we stood to watch the Halloween parade, so afterwards we grabbed one. Very good, soft and not too crunchy, I hate that when they do that.
