Too big for stroller--the website

I can't find that website funny because the premise is to laugh at children. Some of those kids may have disabilities. At WDW, if people want to push their non-disabled larger child around in a stroller, so be it. It's not me pushing them around.

People Of Walmart does not post pics of children, as far as I know. I could laugh at myself getting caught in PJs at the drugstore, but not at a child who may or may not have disabilities.

So wait, it's okay to laugh at anybody as long as they aren't children :confused3

As a mother of an 8 yr old with Cerebral Palsy who uses a special needs stroller when we will be walking for long periods of time I find this website appalling. You do not know what kind of situation may be going on with the child so why judge?

I know that there are children who would probably give anything to be able to run around the parks but unfortunately, it is not physically possible and they have no choice other than to be in a stroller and yes I understand why it would offend the parents with threads like these but....

I genuinely do not think anyone on here would (I hope) go out of their way to offend anyone intentionally and I do think that most of these threads end up being way too serious when they were never meant that way.

Sometimes people just want to post something that they believe is light hearted and others can read it that way, I just think its sad that these threads always end up this way and its down to technology, we dont know the personality of the person posting or the person reading and what could offend some would not neccessarily offend others - I honestly dont think the thread was started to offend people but just because there have been a lot of posts asking 'how old is too old to be in a stroller' etc......It was kinda, have a look at this, any age goes! It is more than likely that those who have children without any kind of special needs that ask the questions, I dont think the replies to these questions ever apply to those with children with special needs!

Given the fact that there is ALWAYS a contingent that feels the need to defend perceived slights towards people with disabilities - even when those slights aren't even remotely present - maybe there should be a disclaimer created by the DIS that automatically jumps into any thread with any discussion about any behaviour that in any way is unusual that says:

Warning: The discussion in this thread is not meant to poke fun or be insensitive to any one with any sort of disability.

According to your logic, we shouldn't make fun of People of Walmart because all of those people might have some mental illness that prevents them from making rational decisions about what to wear. You don't know those people, they might have disabilities and in fact you see a lot of pictures of people on Scooters. You are just as bad for making fun of them.

If the choice was either listen to my kid complain all day or push them in the stroller I would push them, if they want to look dumb I wouldnt care so long as it prevented a whole weeks vacation worth of complaining. I am sure many parents feel the same way and when this person has kids maybe he will figure it out. For now my daughter is 11 months old so she still is stroller aged anyway

My only question is to anyone who thinks this website is funny... do you have kids?

What about the kids who look a lot older than what they actually are?

Both of my kids are very tall for their ages. DD looks a lot older in the face and she towers over other children in her peer group. But the fact of the matter is that she is 2 and wouldn't be able to handle long days without a stroller. Most people I encounter think she is closer to 4/5 years old - most recently an immediate care physician. You can't judge on looks alone.

Zactly.

That's the part I don't get - this board is titled "Attractions and Strategies." One of the single BEST strategies, if you have a few years older than normal stroller age, is to get a stroller.

Finding fault with this strategy is a little like disapproving of those going to ropedrop. It may not be for YOU, but it is a strategy that will allow that family to do more with their day than the 95% of guests who don't take the strategy.

I mean, why does everyone think the stroller prices are so high? it isn't Disney looking to take advantage of families with small kids.

Except that this website makes fun of people for not WALKING. What if they physically can't? The Walmart website, which I have only viewed a few times, seemed to focus on what people are wearing. You can change what you WEAR. You can't change your physical limitations. If the Walmart site made fun of an adult for being in a scooter or a wheelchiar, then yes, I would find that wrong too.

One of the funniest scenes in Tommy Boy is when Tommy puts on his friends way too small suit jacket and sings "fat guy in a little coat....fat guy in a liiiitlllle coa-tttttt..."

Yeah, but one of those people could be someone who was in a rush getting something for their child was ill. A person who normally prides themselves on dressing nicely and is slowly being pushed over the edge and is now on a website wear people can pick on them for throwing on those not so nice looking pair of pants...

I like how you deliberately ignored the first part of my statement. The point is that all of those people could have disabilities and yet you find no fault in making fun of them. That makes you just as bad of a person according to your own logic.

Yes. I have kids, a 9 and 12 year old. They are perfectly capable of walking through Disney and have for years.

For me, I dont care what age your child is in the stroller, I probably wont even notice, I am too busy enjoying where I am and my holiday! If you do catch my eye, I certainly will not judge because its true, I do not know the circumstances and quite frankly, its none of my business either, thats one thing I can guarantee!

On the other hand, I am of a very light hearted nature and I do think that with the things going on in this world right now that are very serious, these boards are a kind of escape when we cant actually be at WDW right at this very second to get a bit of a fun fix, all I was saying is that it doesnt seem to be the case these days!

I can honestly say that I didnt roll around my house laughing at the pictures but I did kinda break a little smile for some of them and it was mainly because we went with our family in 2009 and even a couple of our 9 year olds had a ride in the strollers and I have a picture of them kinda squashed in there (I can post if you like.....:) ???) and I know that would probably shock some, but their legs were tired  I was not trying to offend anyone from my original post......

Ooops....just gotta edit as I say 'phew', its not as bad as I thought, the pictures were from 2007, one of them was 7 and one of them was 6! Even so....they were too big for them but I thought it was kinda funny when I look back at the pics, they didnt care, we didnt really care and I dont think anyone cared around us.....now where can I find the threads from 2007 that they may feature in...........

My oldest will turn 6 just before we arrive in June. I will still get a double-stroller. 2YO obviously needs it, but there's no way I'm carrying the oldest around at the end of a busy day at DW. I dont care if I'm in a pic or not, bottom line, by back isnt going to be broken.

Yep. I think they are hysterical and I have 3 kids. That's one of the reasons I can laugh at myself and not take the websites as an assualt. I know some of the goofy idiotic things I've done with my kids.

OK - full disclosure - we still used a stroller at WDW for our DD last year at 7.5. She has been told by me this is it, no more. She still wants the stroller for WDW in the fall, even though she hasn't ridden in one outside of WDW since she was 4. She's not gong to get it. Plus and minuses to a stroller, but I will miss the storage space. I would almost lay down money at some point she will throw a tantrum in which she refuses to walk. (Usually has one bad one each trip.)

So -to the topic at hand - I guess what I don't get here, on this website and in other threads, is why people get so annoyed with / have to pick on / judge whether people let their kids ride in a stroller so long? What is it really any business of yours? Where's the harm in it? If you want to make your kid get out and walk at 2, or push him/her around until he's in high school, why is that anyone else's business?

I personally try not to be judgemental of others, especially strangers...but if that's what you need to make it through the day...have at it.

:thumbsup2

Happens every time. I end up counting the number of post before we get a post on how some thing is insulting to them. There was a thread on the new tax on tanning, very polite until of course some one who medically needs to tan found it insulting.... :guilty:

It's amazing that we get any threads at all. I'm out, another simple entertaining thread gone by the wayside...

I repeat, I'm amazed at a place that is supposedly a happy friendly site, can get it's knickers in a knot over some of the silliest, tongue in cheek threads.

The stroller website makes fun of children. I don't care if they are disabled or not. I'm not deliberately ignoring anything. Laughing at clothing is not the same as laughing at a disability. Again, clothing can be changed. On Walmart, I would laugh at the CLOTHING. On Stroller site, you are laughing at a child. I'm not here to debate whether websites are appropriate or not.
