Hi everyone. We like to try some new places each time we visit WDW and I thought I wold book some lunches on our park days in July. We can have a nice lunch then leave when it is too hot... My husband loves Italian food so I thought we'd try Tony's for lunch on our MK day. Have heard great reviews of Garden Grill so I thought I wold try that on our Epcot Day. It should be re-opened by our trip... Any info would be great. Thanks!

If you haven't yet been to Garden Grill, you should definitely give it a try. Unpretentious American food but well-executed and yummy! Pre-plated platters, all-you-care-to-eat, and good salad (dinner only), drinks, and dessert included. For us the characters are just a bonus. The only difference between lunch and dinner is the salad and a couple bucks, so take your pick.

If you've been to Liberty Tree for dinner, they are somewhat similar, but I prefer Garden Grill.

Garden Grill is excellent. We ate there on our last trip. Tony's on the other hand, I wouldn't reccomend it. We tried for the first time in Nov. and never again. You could cook better Italian at home.

We love Tony's for lunch! We always book an 11:30 am PS and get one of the tables out front, with a view of the MK entrance, very nice. Always order the Tony's pizza, VERY good. And my DS16 swears by the huge chicken caesar salad, loves it.

We love the Garden Grill and were planning to eat there in July also. When I called this week for ps I was told that the closing has been changed to indefinately. The castmember said they were supposed to open July 7, but now they do not have any dates to give out.

I am going to make ps for somewhere else and hope that it does open before our trip.

Garden Grill is fantastic, but the food at Tony's is nothing short of awful. We love the atmosphere there, and after a terrible experience two visits ago, we gave them the benefit of a doubt, and went back last visit. Just as bad.

Well we have only had breakfast at Tony's but I was not impressed. Garden Grill is our favorite character meal and if it is open I would definitely try to get in for lunch. Good food and really good character interaction. :)

I would choose GG over Tony's.The setting is nice but the food wasn't that great.

I have heard too many bad reviews of Tony's... Just trying to appease hubby, whose fave is Italian food. If it is terrible Italian food I guess he wouldn't like it anyhow... I guess we'll pick something else on MK day like Liberty Tree or Crystal Palace. We had a nice lunch at the castle recently and I was disappointed to see it will become a character lunch... The regular lunch was reasonable and very good.

Liberty Tree tavern, by the way, has been a fave of my family since I was a kid and going to WDW... My parents still tease me about the fact that I fell asleep at the table during a dinner there. I was exhausted! My crazy Mom used to have us at the MK every day for opening, and then we'd close the place down. No WONDER I was tired... But it is amazing to me that the restaurant remains, 30 years later.

Thanks for the help!

Garden Grill is/was great! But it is currently closed with no signs of opening anytime soon.

Tony's in my opinion is the WORST food in Disney World. Avoid it at all costs!

I know everyone else is panning Tony's and you probably don't need me jumping on the bandwagon but after the last time there I feel I have to.

DO NOT waste your money on this place. If your DH enjoys Italian food then this is not the place to take him. I know I'm spoiled with Italian GPs but this food didn't even come close to the local pizza parlor that the Polish people in town run. :confused3 :confused3

Thanks everyone. I had suspected as much but there are few places to get Italian food in the World. It's bad enough to pay near $20 for a luncheon plate of spaghetti, but it would be worse if that spaghetti also happened to be awful!

If Garden Grill is reopened in late July, we'll go there. On MK day we'll go to Crystal Palace or Liberty Tree Tavern, I guess. Maybe I can get a PS at Mama Melrose's at MGM instead for hubby. :)
