I was shocked as well.

How will the character develop? Is Paul Mc Crane leaving? I hope not, this is a wonderful character, and full of depth.

I wonder if since he won't be in surgery, Alex Kingstons character will be the head of surgery.. and Romano will be part of administration.

Small pox, I am glad it wasn't. That storyline just seemed so OVER THE TOP.

Carter/Abby, now who else thinks Abby will be pregnant after the camp out in the hospital..

Let me add my voice to the choir! Last night was a GREAT episode probably the best one I have seen since I started watching ER about 3 years ago.

I was sitting there watching when you just knew that when Romano bent over to pick up that chart that something was going to happen but !

I put my hand over my mouth in complete shock and I think I sat there for about a minute without moving until DH looked at me and asked me if I was OK.

I have always like Dr. Romano's character. He really adds something to the show and we have seen glimpses of how he can actually act like a human (i.e. the whole Lucy thing).

That was a great episode. I think you will see a change in Romano. I also think a romance will start between him and Dr. Corday. I think he has true feelings for her. I also think Abby will get pregnant. Although I dont like Abby and Carter together. She is way to blah and dark a character. I actually was hoping for him to get together with that student doctor that that they killed off for no reason. Carter needs soemone more perky and pleasant. Abby is way too moody. PLus they kust dont look that cute together.

What a shock though when that arm went flying off.

I was completely blown away by this episode. So many unexpected things happened. I thought Corday was leaving and was pleasantly surprised by her returning. I don't think the Abby/Carter thing is going to last. It sounds like we are in for a very interesting season.

Add me to the group who was shocked by the Romano thing! I can't believe that something like this wasn't leaked beforehand! It will be very interesting to see how he deals with this; he can never perform surgery again, and that's his whole life. Will he become more angry? Or will more of his softer side come out now that he'll be dependent on others for a while? Remember when he rushed his dog into surgery? He DOES have a soft side.

As for Abby and Carter, I just can't see them together. She's too blah and depressing. He needs someone more like Chen!

I was completely shocked by what happened to Romano. I actually screamed when it happened.

I certainly hope this guy doesn't leave the show because he is my favorite character. He can be a basta** but it's fun to hate someone at times. And he has shown a good side when it counts. The funny part is when you see him in real life, he is the nicest, soft spoken man you could imagine....has he ever won an Emmy, cause he sure should...he is so different on E.R. from his real life personality.

I agree with above poster who says he and Corday will likely have a romance. They will share grief....she starting a life without Mark, he starting a life of rehabilitation.

I love Abby & Carter together too.

Looks like a good season's coming up!!

I don't think Romano will leave. My guess is at first he will be more insufferable than ever, but later in the season he will finally break and we will get to see more of the side that he shows with Corday.

I like Abby and Carter, I think it's about time they got together. She and Luka together, were wayyyyyy too dark, they both needed someone to lighten them up.

spb999, I LOVE that song!!!!!!!!!!! He was so wonderful in that movie, very moving song and character. Guess Romano won't be strumming any guitars this season though. Oooh, sorry, that was cold.

I didn't see the show, so I'm curious, how does one get their arm cut off by a helicopter blade?

They were loading a patient in the helicopter, he dropped the chart,bent over to pick it up and when he stood up he was to close to it and.... off it went!

The helicopter's air turbulents blew a patient's chart off of his gurney. The chart landed under the copter's tail rotor. Romano ducked down and walked over to the chart, picked it up, made the near fatal mistake of standing up, and his arm hit the rotor just below the shoulder.

This sort of accident isn't unheard of or very far fetched. A couple of year's ago an executive of the large insurance company Conseco in Indianapolis was decapitated by a corporate helicopter because he was walking upright around the blades.

Wow-what a shocker!

I've never liked Romano but sure didn't want him to be hurt. I saw the disclaimer at the begining of the show and thought I wonder what will happen but had no idea that it would be Romano. Noah Wyle did an interview on the Today Show yesterday and didn't even hint at a surprise.

I've watched ER since it started in 1994 and watch it in syndication on Saturday and Sunday nights. (My DH thinks I'm crazy.) I couldn't wait to get on the DIS this morning and see what my fellow ER fans thought of the show.

Amazed here too!! Romano is my FAVORITE character on this show! He is just so mean and yet sensitive in rare moments.\


QUESTION: When he started to come around in the ER, what did he say? Sounded like "I want Carrie"?!?! Anyone catch it???

DH thought Romano said something about "I am at County". I could not really catch it either.

I guess it could have been Carrie. From what they showed last night it looks like there could be plenty of opportunities for Romano and Carrie to start some type of friendship as he recovers.

I am almost sure he said County, not Carrie....I thought he groaned in a sarcastic way, "I'm at County....." once he looked at that doctor's face (can't remember his name.)
