My DD wants a pair of Toms shoes for Christmas. I know they donate a pair for every pair puchased. I like that. But I'm having a hard time making the purchase. They are a bit pricey, but I can get passed that because they donate.

I don't know much about how they are made and if they hold up. Are they true to size? Mainly, they just don't look appealing to me. Any imput on this would be helpful.

My dd "had" to have these before she started high school, and "bless her heart" she thinks she started the trend (in her mind! *grin) I will say I was surprised that they have a "cushion" with an arch -

I figure there's a lot going on in the world, and if this is how she wants to spend her money, I'll support that!

I love my Tom's. So do my kids. I have found that they run true to size.

check out the nordstrom department store site for the toms shoes. Read the reviews. Lots there....

Mine are 1/2 size bigger. I like them, but not for all day wear.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my glitter TOMS . I have a pair of black ones and a pair of pink ones. They are absolutely ADORABLE .

They should be a bit tight when you put them on - they will stretch. DD12 wears an 8 1/2, so she got her Toms in an 8. They fit great, and she says they are very comfortable.

I love my Toms. I had a really hard time making myself pay $48 for them (hey, I'm on the Budget Board for a reason ) so I asked DH for them for my birthday. I've had them since October and they are great! I haven't had any trouble with holes or excessive wear. I will say they are pretty light weight and since it's 25 degrees here right now I probably won't wear them this week.

They are super comfortable. I wear an 8 and that's what size I have. They were a little snug at first but they seem to be stretching a little.

I'm pretty sure there will be a new pair my closet come spring.

My DD 7 loves hers and thinks they are very comfortable. After 3 months of wear (she has other shoes that she also wears - her sneakers and uggs and flats) they are absolutely falling apart. The sole has detached from the shoe, they are holes in the sides and the are separating on the top at the seams.

I mention she has lots of other shoes because they are not in this condition with continuous wear. I contacted Toms to complain - the second half of my complaint was about sending a pair of shoes to a child in need that will only last a couple months!! - and they wanted me to return them to the store for a refund first.

I am sort of embarrassed to take them back to Nordstrom looking as ratty as they do. I am sure they will assume she just plays really hard and wore them out by being a kid.

My older DD wears hers to work (school teacher) and she swears by them. She had a pair of tan canvas ones that started to split at the sole. She was expecting the customer service to require her to send them back, but they didn't. They sent her a brand new pair-no questions asked. Can't beat that!

Yep, definitely a common problem with Toms shoes.

Luckily my DD has always made it at least 6 months before developing the dreaded toe hole.

I think Toms are quite trendy right now, they're actually pretty comfortable (as long as you don't need a shoe with a lot of support) and the one for one concept is nice.

But if you're looking for high quality, well made shoes, I'd look elsewhere and if you're looking to help children in need, there are many charities where your money would go further.

JMO, and seeing as how I just tripped over a pair that DD left in the entryway, you know we've been sucked in.

I need to clarify - my post made it sound like they only lasted a month. In fact, one pair was six or seven months old, one pair was a month or two old, and one pair was somewhere in between, but they all happened to develop holes within the same month. And then my head exploded.

They are very thin. I like the concept but I just can't bring myself to drop $60-$70 on a pair. (this is the range DD provides links for) She used her birthday money to buy herself a pair. They seem to be holding up but to me they just seem like glorified slippers. They run big according to her. She wears an 8.5 and size 8.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad it wasn't just me. I think they won't hold up. Coughing up 50 bucks for a pair of shoes that won't last really bugs me. But I know they're the lastest fad and can't argue with trends. Gotta keep my DD up on that.

At least they're not another $180 pair of UGGS. Oh no. I feel like I just talked myself into buying these for her.

I don't like their "we donate one pair" marketing approach. I help numerous organizations, but giving shoes -- although admirable -- isn't tops on my list.

They're cloth shoes. You can easily guess the quality.

I'd suggest checking out Simple Shoes. Recycled materials, cuter and will probably last longer. I"ve got a pair of slides going on 3 years that were on sale for $20

I bought my DD a pair for christmas! Now, I may regret it since she is hard on shoes as well. The young guy at the store told me to buy them snug,as they will stretch. I was planning on spraying them with a canvas protector before giving them to her.

I love my TOMS. I purchased them this year (the burlaps) and they are definitely worn. I would say that generally most people I know purchase a pair a year for summer wear. I wore mine pretty much everyday during the summer and fall and I love them. They are absolutely the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. The price was expensive but I had Discover Card rewards where you get a gift card for $50 using $40 reward dollars, so I felt that was better and since this was money that I earned I only paid $10 or something.
