Tom & Heidi 1/19/09 Italy WD/WP/Narcoossee's/Sago Cay...Sprint to the Finish!!!

How the heck did I miss your updates??? I'm sorry girl. Your photos are just amazing!!

We will be in disney the same time as you! I hope to see you at the Half. There are a lot of Disney brides running it! I'm so excited.

I'm really looking forward to the Marathon weekend! It was fun running into Cam when we were there for the wedding, but this is going to be awesome!

I love the tote bags and the jones soda is too cute!! The little snippets of information were such a great idea! Such a great MOH to help you with all that!!

Yes, she was AMAZING!

I love that your pics are in the info about the bridal portrait session. So beautiful.

Thanks :cutie: We were surprised!

What a great Deal on the tickets....I can't wait to read about the tea party! What a dream come true wedding you had (both times)!

I have really got to get on the ball and write about it!!!

That is so cool that your pictures are in the MK photo shoot brochure! I'm not surprised though, when I first saw them I thought you two should be in a magazine!!!:goodvibes

You are TOO SWEET!

I don't know how I missed the link before especially with all of the comments after it. Anyhoo your photo shoot pictures are really really great! You got sooo many excellent ones. You both look so happy together.

once again. Congrats!

Thank you! We're VERY happy...but I'd be happier if we WERE together! :rotfl2: Only a few more months...

Oh Heidi I love your update! What an amazingly thoughtful MOH to do all that for you both:goodvibes Also, your BP pics are totally amazing, I am so excited that they are on the cover! You are celebrities!

I don't know about the celebrity part:laughing:...but we were definitely happy with our pictures! I hate that some brides haven't been...it's really sad, but the pictures I've seen in the past few months have been great (Goldeelox9 for one!), so I'm hoping that's the trend!

Thanks for sharing! What a great touch to your bags, I love the little details.

The MK BP brochure is amazing too, that is so neat that you got to have your shoot showcased like that for everyone.

I was really proud of the bags...but I think the guests might have taken them for granted. I don't think they always understand the HOURS that go into these details. So, I'm really happy you guys appreciate it!!

haha thats so funny. At first I thought you meant that the doll looked like her. Then as I read through it was like OMG its Heidi!!! VERY EXCITING. So anyhoo I continued to read on through her disney snobbery TR. She is very interesting. She has a captivating style of writing.

Congrats Heidi on making it into another TR! Everyone must have thought you were a celebrity on your wedding day.

Oh, your bags were adorable. Very cute! Oh, and congrats on being on the BPS. That's amazing. Obviously, the saw something in your beauty and knew you and your DH could sell some sessions! Can't wait to read more...

Is heidi the bride on that other TR? I thought her bridesmaids dresses were purple? Or am I a complete loser and missing something here?

Oh did you see you were a Guest star in another Trip Report....Soon as I saw you I was like...Oh it's Heidi!!!

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30499048&postcount=357

You guys won't believe this (because I didn't at first), but that's not me! We were never at the Yacht club! At first I was really thrown, because it LOOKS like me. Even her mannerisms are the same! And the hair. And the veil. That's just crazy!

I have those type of "Heidi" dolls, too, so don't feel bad for assuming! :lmao: My Mom is German (born and raised in Munich)...hence "Heidi" as a first name.

Thank you for the very sweet compliments. I think DH is the real "salesman" of the group :rotfl2: I'm sure it didn't hurt that we're both freakishly tall! I'm 6'1" and he's 6'2"! He loves to tease me that I'm "short" since he has me by an inch. So, I just put on the heels!:p

And you're dead on with the bridesmaid dresses! Good eye! My first reaction was "Wow, that looks just like me!" then "but, that doesn't look like the GF!" I didn't even notice the BM dresses till later! :rotfl:

Now I'm really curious who that bride is!! I'd love to read her TR!

Well, my Mom is berating me (she's a lurker on here) about not finishing this thing. I called her yesterday and was told "your friends on the DISboards are waiting to hear about the tea party!" Yes, MA'AM!

So, after breakfast, I'll get to work!

As promised, although not to the tea party yet...

The rest of W-3 (Friday, January 16th)

I forgot to mention one thing that MOH did for the welcome bags. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of them, but they were amazing. She made homemade truffles that were in purple and white chocolate and put four in a box with a ribbon and “J” seal on the top! I can’t believe I didn’t take pictures of them, but they basically looked like this, except purple and white...
OreoTruf51.jpg

The recipe is fairly easy, but making them pretty is a whole ‘nother matter. I’ve tried them twice now (the second is chilling in the fridge today). You take a pkg of oreos, a pkg of cream cheese and blend it together in a food processor (process the cookies first and then add the cream cheese). Form them into balls and chill them. Then, you dip them in chocolate. Sounds easy, but the dipping is more complicated than it looks. After the first botched attempt, I bought a dipping fork and another dipping tool that looks like a wire loop on a handle. This way, you can get the truffles out of the chocolate, let the excess drip off and place them (somewhat) neatly on a flat service to chill in the fridge.

Okay, so that evening, we made ADRs at O’hanas for DH and I, my parents, my aunt, his sisters, their husbands, and his two nieces and one nephew. We were pretty excited, because we’d never eaten at O’hanas and because it was sort of a non-event, event. We weren’t having a rehearsal dinner, because it was a Welcome Dinner, so this was a more intimate event for our families, even though his Mom wasn’t there yet.

First lesson learned (which some of you may already know): O’hana’s (and a lot of restaurants for that matter) won’t seat you till your whole party arrives. SIL had a 2 1/2 year old and a 3 month old, and the adjustment to WDW wasn’t going so well, so they were running late. They didn’t think much about it, because normally, they’d just catch up. Not their fault, but make sure your guests KNOW that you’ll all be waiting if they’re running late.

So, while we were waiting, we hung around and the performers at the “Spirit of Aloha” show did a little show for us in the waiting area.

again...the “I’m-stressed-and-going-to-shoot-my-sister” look. It’s in the eyes...

So, we got seated, and they started bringing the food. I really enjoyed it (except chicken wings...I don’t eat them...and that will come into play later). There was a LOT of food, which suited our crowd. The fact that it was good was only a bonus!

100_3919.jpg

Soon after we started eating, our ears gave us away to be singled out to lead the “parade of children” and hold the limbo pole. We were, of course, happy to oblige, so the lady who does the show gave us tons of leis to give out later. Now, that was generous and all, but I wish she hadn’t given them to us to wear in the meantime, since, after seeing this picture, we look like a couple of polynesian chow-chows or lions with a full mane!

DSCN2027.jpg

As if the leis weren’t enough, we wore grass skirts, too :)

DH, as usual, was a great sport
100_3925.jpg

I make fun of all this, but it really was a good time. After we were done eating, it was time to put our leis and grass skirts to work. First, we had to parade around the restaurant behind this lady, as she sung. Apparently, it was a sort of pied-piper thing, because all the children followed behind.

DSCN2029.jpg

DH was hamming it up
DSCN2031.jpg

Then, after we lured all the kids out of their seats, it was time for the limbo. This was pretty funny, but it’s a good thing we held the pole and didn’t limbo. The kids would have put me to shame!

It was a really fun night and a great dinner! SIL #1 and my family were staying at the CR at this point, so we bid them goodnight and rode the monorail back to the GF.

On our way back to the room, I heard “Excuse me, are you on the DIS?” I turned around and it was Cam (Keenercam)! We had to get a picture together. I had already seen some preview pics on her PJ, but her husband was ready with the cell phone to show me how beautiful his wife looked! It was awesome to see how proud he was of her!

So, that was the end of W-3. The next day was going to be super busy. Mani/Pedi in the morning, tea party in the afternoon, bachelor/bachelorette evening that night. I was looking forward to things getting started!

WOoOhhooO! An update! Thanks Mom!

Thanks for the heads up on O'hana's & the mountain o'lies they put on you before you eat. (Note to self-NO ears in O'hana) Sorry, nothing comes between me and my food at Disney! :rotfl2:

PS Oreo bon bons rule...I have the recipe here somewhere and refuse to buy a food processor b/c Um....that would be bad...very bad...

I have a friend who makes the oreo balls too and they are very yummy!

We always love going to Ohanas on trips with a group. It was funny seeing you with the limbo stick because on our anniversary trip Kris and I got stuck at the table for two right by where this takes place. We had 2 or 3 kids bouncing off our table during the limbo :rotfl:

It really is...I already had one, and DH isn't even here to feed my "mistakes" to...so someone has to eat them!

Yes, they were pretty wild! So much for a romantic dinner, huh? :rotfl2:

W-2, Saturday January 17th, 2009

This morning, I woke up with my head full of the things that I still had to do. Today was the tea party, and DH’s thing at the ESPN Zone. And we had a combined bachelor/bachelorette outing at Jellyrolls that night. I was particularly excited about that, since it was our opportunity to let loose with only our friends without everyone else around.

In the morning, MOH came over to finish up the Welcome Bags. We decided to distribute them at the tea party, because it was the first “official” event of the weekend. I had emailed the newsletter before I left for the wedding, but I wanted to make sure everyone had the information on the bus times for the Welcome Dinner. And at any rate, almost ALL of the guest families had a lady coming to the tea party. So, it made it simpler.

I also worked on the gift bags for the BMs, since I planned on handing them out at the tea party, too.

I found these for the Bachelor/Bachelorette
P1170033.jpg

I had these made from a vendor on Etsy
P1170032.jpg

I also bought them a coach wristlet

And I found a pearl necklace, earring and bracelet set on Overstock.com. I didn’t intend on them wearing them for the wedding, but they chose to on their own. In the end, I think it looked good.

I had to leave DH and MOH in the room finishing up the bags to get to my mani/pedi. It was convenient staying at the GF for this, because I was able to walk over to the spa in just a few minutes. I made the appointment with my mom (although she only wanted the manicure). I thought it would be something nice to do with her before the wedding. Well, I should have made that clear when I scheduled the appointment, because they took me to a room with a spa chair for the pedicure, but took her to a totally separate room. The whole experience was really nice, and the pedicure in particular lasted over a month. So, I have no complaints about the service. Just make sure that if you have an experience in mind...that you communicate it. I didn’t think that they would take us to separate rooms, but they did.

After that, I had received a call from Michelle Wenzler-Dorr to tell me that because of the temperature, they were moving the tables inside the WHR to set up. I had really wanted the tea party on the patio, but it was a little on the chilly side that morning. I think it would have been fine by the time the tea party rolled around at 2:00pm, but oh well. It was still nice. She also told me that she had another wedding at that time, but stopped by to make sure things were okay. She was super excited to hear what I had to say about the cake, and she had found a few props to decorate the room as well.

I had bought some stuffed penguins to decorate, and she let me know that the floral folks were looking for them. I had TOTALLY forgotten to drop them off at Franck’s. She told me to call bell services and have them transport them to the WHR. That turned out to be a HUGE time saver. We used bell services several times to save our behinds (or really our legs), so I recommend staying at a deluxe hotel near your events for that reason alone.

I was SUPER excited about the tea party. Because of my location (in Germany), I didn’t get to have a shower, which was a real bummer. So, the tea party was a chance to do “girly” things.

I lucked out in finding my outfit at the Dress Barn on sale and the hat on clearance at TJ Maxx. I had ordered the shoes to wear to the Welcome Dinner, but they went with this outfit, too.

Problem: I did not walk around in these shoes, and I actually tried to wear hose. Big mistake. I slipped forward in the shoes and could not keep them on my feet. I was so frustrated just walking across the GF to the convention center to the Whitehall Room. It made me feel rushed and stressed instead of relaxed and ready to enjoy the event.

Tea Party Lesson Learned #1: walk quite a distance in your shoes before the event...not just across the room or the store. And buy those foot pad things, just in case.

By the time I got there, most people were milling about in the hall way not sure what to do.

Tea Party Lesson Learned #2: I wish I had tagged someone with the “cruise director” title to get people into the room.

When I walked up, it was really cool, though, because I hadn’t seen some of these girls in 3 years! And some of DH’s family I had NEVER met. Shortly after I walked up, but before we all went into the room, DH and all his “boys” came in carrying the welcome bags. MOH had enlisted their “brawniness” for the job. We caught a few pics before we went in.

The room was decorated beautifully. I loved the colored table cloths, and the carousel horses looked great. The flowers were beautiful, although I thought it was a little weird that they were just placed around the horses, and not in some type of water or foam.

Shelley from Impressions did a great job with the menus and the napkins. Now, I loved these details, but in an attempt to save money, you could TOTALLY dispense with these.

IMG_3325.jpg

And the Pièce de résistance. The GF Bakery outdid themselves on this, because I gave NO guidance. Michelle (WP) told them it was a “Jolly Holiday” Mary Poppins theme and they did the rest. Amazing.

P1170038.jpg

So, anyway, the room and cake blew me away, but as I was admiring all the details and chatting this brings me to...

Tea Party Lesson Learned #3: assign seating or have smaller tables to encourage mixing or one large table.

We had 10-tops, and since MOH and I were the last to sit down, she and I, her mom and MIL and SIL and I ended up at a table by ourselves. Don’t get me wrong...I love these people, but I’ve seen them more frequently over the years. At some of the other tables were some of my dearest friends whom I haven’t seen in YEARS!!! Because of this, it was hard to circulate, and I hardly got to talk to them. So, even though the party was beautiful, it really didn’t flow like I wanted it to.

After everyone was seated, I opened up the buffet. I didn’t do a tasting of this menu, and only swapped out a little bit from the “stock” tea party menu. I wish I had been more specific or had tasted it. Everything sounded really good, but I can’t think of a single thing that was particularly good. Some was down-right bad.

So after the food, Mary Poppins came in! She was so cute and interacted with the guests really well. I was so glad I had her.

We had the cake sliced and served, which was WONDERFUL! I should have just had cake and tea/coffee! There was tons left over, and we ate on it for a few days after.

Again, Bell Services came to the rescue. We had the load up the cake, the decorations and all the left over details and deliver them to the room. Sooo much easier than doing it ourselves!

So, my last tip...

Tea Party Lesson Learned #4-hire a photographer, or make sure someone who is really good at photography is taking the shots you want. I didn't bring a camera. My Mom forgot hers. We assumed other people would take shots and we could share them. But, honestly, most came out blurry, or they are not pics of things I wanted to see. I hate that I had this beautiful event and don't have very many good pictures of it. Definitely figure that out before-hand!QUOTE]

you had Mary Poppins at your tea party! ! !?!?!? HOW COOL is that!!! :thumbsup2

The room looked lovely, you really did a great job chooseing the table centerpieces, it came out really nice! And your dress was so pretty!!!

I can not believe that bride wasn't you....It looked just like you! LOL

Your Tea Party sounds amazing and I loved your dress. It looked alot like my bridesmaid dresses!

Your tea party looked fabulous!! Can I ask where you found the fuchsia sweater to wear over your dress? I've been looking for something like that to wear over my white sundress if our morning service is chilly.

Can't wait for your next installment! :goodvibes

Thank you! I really loved planning all of that. It was a blast!

Even my Mom said it looked like me! And your BM's dresses were gorgeous, so thanks for the compliment!!

It came with the dress. I found it on the clearance rack at Dress Barn in Nov of last year. Although my Mom said she saw some of the same dresses there again for full price...so you might be able to find it!

OMG your tea party was so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love everything! I love that Mary Poppins came!!!!! You must have had a wonderful time!!

It looks like you had so many wonderful touches at your tea party :cutie: What a wonderful touch with Mary Poppins, the props, and the theming. Do you have a close-up of your menu cards? The GF bakery did an amazing job on the cake. I have a question, do you choose from the menu items at the Gardenview Tea Room or does GF private dining handle the menu? I love the hat shots; that was the favorite part of my bridal tea.

Just been catching up. Its a shame about the tea party food but at least you still enjoyed it. I agree the dress is lovely.

I'll be there between the 8th and 15th Jan as well although on my honeymoon not running the marathon, I hate running for the bus never mind anything else.

the mickey tea sandwiches look really cute!!! how were they?

I am amazed at the number of events you guys had!!! Your guests must have had the most amazing trip.

Can't wait to hear more!

Your tea party looked like so much fun!! Oh, and I too  Oreo bon-bons. But I agree that dipping them is a pain. When I made them last Christmas instead of dipping them I just drizzled them with chocolate (put the melted chocolate in a piping bag and cut the tip a little). This was much easier and they still tasted really good.
