I didn't say they had attacked us. I'm saying that I don't find them both at fault because one did the attacking and one was innocent.
But, if we are attacked, then I think we should defend ourselves.
I never said Iraq attacked us.

caity, I feel the responsibilities of the government vs. the responsibilities of individuals are very different. As a Christian, I believe that I personally must try my hardest to turn the other cheek when insulted/attacked/hurt/etc. However, I believe that one of the chief goals of government is to protect it's citizens. Unfortunately, I believe this sometimes involved the use of force, and sometimes that force must be used in a pre-emptive manner, IMO. I believe that eliminating the threat Saddam poses to the US and the rest of the free world can only be done via forceful means. I don't believe that Saddam is willing to negotiate or that he is a man who would keep his promises. I honestly feel that time will indeed prove that Saddam is duplicitous and that he indeed has weapons of mass destruction. In order to protect our security, I feel that he must be removed from power. He has been given the choice to step down peacefully, but he has refused. Now we must do what we are required to do to protect the USA and the free world. As President Bush said in his speech, I believe it is our responsibility. I know that we disagree on this issue, but I just wanted to share my opinion on the difference between individual and governmental responsibilities. :)

We also didn't know before Al Qaeda was going to attack on 9/11. I don't think we should wait until we are attacked when he has the history he does.
ok, so let's go after china, and a whole host of african nations too.

one did the attacking where? and why should we be involved?

elisabeth, i can respect your opinions, though i do not share them. :)

oh boy that's really funny. innocent people dying, yeah that's something i like to laugh about.

Excuse my ignorance :o, Will's not around for me to ask him, but is Iraq the only country with weapons of mass destruction? :o

Caity, this was your post. One kid attacked another on the playground with a crowbar. They fought. You found them both at fault. I said I didn't. I called fighting back self defense. I hope that answers your second question above: "one did the attacking where?". My reply had nothing to do with Iraq and the US or them attacking us. They haven't...yet.

I wonder who will be there for our troops now.

brenda, i apologize. i misunderstood your post. :)

safforn: no they are not. and technically we don't even know for sure if iraq still had wmd.

Sorry to hijack your thread, ***********. :) Just one more quesiton. :o

If Iraq isn't the only country with (alleged) weapons of mass destruction, why are they the only country we're going after? :o

caity, all is well. I'm sorry also. Lack of sleep and lots of tension wondering what the heck the future holds.

Saffron, probably because Saddam is (in the words of the great Barnard P. Fife) "a nut". He is unpredictable and a threat. There are a lot of thoughts on why them, I suppose. Everything from oil to finishing the job Bush Sr. started. Frankly, I worry about anyone w/ WMD.

North Korea has WMD.. however we have what they want so we can handle them with diplomacy...
Iraq.. we don't have a thing they want.. sooooo.... the govt has chosen to handle the situation completely different..... jmho

I have not read all the replies but I could slap that man all the way to France:smooth: !
Saffron, Iraq had to sign an agreement when they surrendered at the end of the war in 91(we did win) that inspectors would be allowed in and they could have no weapons of mass destruction. Well, that did not last long. I could say a lot more, but I shall go :p !

He says this as we are (at the time) 24 hrs from the brink of war? Yet he agreed with Bush in Oct.!

Please someone cite the specific examples of diplomatic failure???

Did President Bush not give the UN MORE than enough time to allow for Diplomatic reasoning? Did they not give Saddam enough time to show they are not building these weapons? Why were we not allowed in immediately (why??? Of course he had them and had to hide them---he let people in after a long time)

I want some hard concrete evidence to back such ridiculous statements. Don't just throw out some accusation without something to back it.

I'd like to see how Daschle could have gotten Saddam to dissarm, and if he did have any bright ideas, he had the responsibility to share them. He should have used examples of what could have worked. Hmmmmm, he didn't say anything because THERE WEREN'T ANY OTHER ANSWERS, you can't reason with Evil people.

Oh, and in response to the other countries with these weapons. #1 We DID give time for diplomatic reasoning with Iraq, We didn't just jump right in the second we thought they had the weapons. Why are people burying their head in Iraqi sand on this topic????? We have given them time, THEY chose not to take the option. THEY chose this consequence.
#2 Same goes for the other countries. We are trying diplomatic channels first. We haven't jumped on North korea, because we are still in the process of the diplomatic channels. What happens to these countries is in their own hands.

I disregard anything that this guy says. He's a whiner. We don't need whiners running our country, we need leaders. Bush is a leader - and that's something Tom Daschle can't handle.

Wrong time to promote a political/partisan agenda. Dumb move. Period.
