I think as long as one takes the courses, pays for them all, they are fine with it. If anything, allegedly, one has to get a LOT of auditing to deal with all the past suppression of the past SP spouses and to get over it.

I think most of us actually liked Tom Cruises movies. We originally didn't have anything against him. I certainly watched his stuff. I don't care if anyone is gay, what their religion is, who they marry or why.

But, then:

He jumps on the couch declaring his undying love for Katie Holmes.

He attacks Brooke Shields for using medication during her post-partum depression AND goes off on Matt Lauer calling him glib.

He continues a very public relationship with Katie saying they don't have sex. The, Oops! she's pregnant. Another, massively public pregnancy. . .
they actually rent pregnancy monitoring equipment and bring it to Cruise's NOME instead of going to the Dr.'s office to have the baby monitored. . .

And you have a thread that turned from snarky fun into strangely bizarre, then horrifying for Tom's kids, as well as for Katie & Suri as we know what will eventually come, from having watched Nicole go through the same stuff. It was like watching a horrible trainwreck, only real, not just entertainment anymore.

If I recall didn't her family openly speak of their concerns? She also wasn't all that young and had been in a relationship with a hollywood hearthrob..not a mega-star, but really? I certainly hope her self-esteem wasn't low enough to fall victim of this. I think she honestly figured she would deal with it later, well, later is here.

She's ordinary, and many ordinary girls could be swayed by the promise of wealth, and fame etc etc. I bet she has 20/20 hindsight now. Hope it doesn't cost her too dearly to rectify the situation.

yeah, no ill-will to her, or Suri, but honestly there is nothing normal about the whole situation, so a normal life/future was never very likely for that kid divorce or not. Katie will sadly be dealing with the fallout for quite some time...and her DD will still be under the microscope if not more. I don't know if KH falls under ordinary, but she never became a superstar herself. That said, Holleyweird takes it toll~leaves it's mark in many ways.

hmmmm, on the Batman thing...I thought they kinda dropped HER. Not sure if she had the whole chemistry thing going on with Bruce Wayne/Christian Bale. I remember something along the lines of "going with a stronger actress". On that note, I guess her ego WAS in the crapper maybe, making her ripe for the picking for Tom. I still figure she was a big girl tho, and now the Piper must get paid. They can beam Tommy boy up any time as far as I'm concerned tho. Look up ToryMagoo44 on youtube. She joined Scientology in the 70's and worked her way up the ranks. She defected and tells you everything you need to know about Scientology. She also has a bunch of videos of protests and pickets outside of their churches and buildings.

I don't remember. 16 days, several weeks? Friends couldn't reach her. Family. Her agent. Next thing, all her stuff in NY is moved out of apt & apt let go.....and she's now "with" Tom. She never had a chance to go back to her life or friends to talk with them. He had brainwashed her and moved her all in one fell swoop. After that, there were only a few visits home to family, and only a few for them out to her. He started controlling her immediately!

She was young, niave, and in love with her teenage crush. And I suspect pregnant with Hartman's baby so she took what looked like an awesome offer.

He bought her an engagement ring after their first date. Though I think it was 2 months before they were engaged.

Yes, she received a "new best friend" (or two) in short order, whom she was never seen without. It was a Sci coach/advisor.

It speaks volumes that Katie filed for divorce when TC is out of the country & he can't come back easily & coerce her back in short order. That she (& Suri) are no longer living in the same state as him.

I know this may seem like a stupid question but what is meant by sole legal custody? Does it mean she gets to make all the decisions regarding Suri or she controls visitation or what? I've never been divorced & my friends who have been divorced have joint custody so I'm not sure of the differences.

I haven't read the articles, just saw the headline go by on CNN. Is that what she's theoretically asking for?

Sole legal custody means the person with custody would make all decisions regarding the child; visitation is worked out separately, that's physical. It'd be unlikely for sole legal custody to be granted in a case with two involved, fit parents.

Legal and physical custody are the two types that come into play. It may have been reported wrong because in, well, a normal relationship, you'd have to have serious reason to ask the court for sole legal custody and in this one, you'd think the contract covers this and that he wouldn't want to look bad.

Mostly people get joint legal without much issue - which means like, both parents have a say in school decisions or medical decisions and stuff like that. Physical custody is where the kid lives. You might have joint legal and physical, where it's all split evenly, or joint legal and one person has primary physical and the other has visitation, etc., etc. it can break down lots of ways.

Sole legal cuts one parent off pretty completely from all decisions, but doesn't mean the other person can't see the child or anything.

Heh, I'd wager whatever drama 'he was blindsided!' 'she felt trapped' etc., is the agreed-upon storyline.

Scientology is seriously scary stuff. As I said, DH's uncle is very involved in scientology - his wife is Jewish and was adamant that she would never be involved, and she never has been. All his kids were involved to some extent though - his daughter was very involved and even worked at the Scientology center in New York. She started wanting to get out when she was about 16 and wasn't able to break free - she's now 27 and only just managed to get away from it all. It's really creepy - she won't talk about what happened, why she was unable to get away from it all any sooner, etc.

She moved out to California because people from the Scientology center kept showing up on her doorstep in New York and calling her all the time, calling the family. It was insane. Yet despite all this, her father is still totally involved and sees nothing wrong with anything that happened.
