I just did it myself when I went. Granted, I was already going to Japan so it was a trip w/in a trip for me.
Booking the hotel room was the hardest part b/c I never got through. I asked my little bro who lives there to call & book for me b/c you can only book via phone if you lived outside of Japan so that he could call more often but the lines were always busy for him too. (But I've heard of others who have had no problem booking at TDR.) Finally, I just stayed @ the hilton, which was easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Booked online.
Staying there was just as easy, just a monorail ride away just like staying at GF, POLY, or CR @ WDW.
Hope my answer wasn't too long & didn't take away from the photo thread too much. Good luck planning your trip!
By the way, love all the photos . Wish I had taken more while I was there .
I also did the planning and booking on line myself. I searched the web for a for a Japanese Hotel, which their are only a few hotel web sites in English. On our first trip, when we arrived, we found that no one at the Japanese hotel could speak English. It was all part of the Adventure. Our 2nd trip we booked into a Disney Hotel, The Swan and Dolphin. There was always someone on the front desk who could speak English.
The Japanese people are extremely polite and helpful. It's really surprising to see such kindness in everyday people. We stopped on the sidewalk looking lost and had peolpe approach us, who spoke English offering help. We asked directions to a train platform from a transit cop, and he walked us to the site which was about a kilometer away! Tokyo Station is BIG!
Japan is very safe. We were never nervious where ever we travelled in Japan. People are so respectful to one another and everything is so orderly. You'll have a wonderful time!
While many things are different some things are familiar...
There is a different theme Hotel in Disneysea, not the Twilght Zone tower of terror" or "Hollywood Tower of Terror" but the Hotel Hightower. It seems the owner was a wealthy explorer who collected rare and unusual items from around the world. Mr. Hightower even collected some supernatural phenomena which gives you your tower of terror ride. This explorer idea gives a real scope to a lot of cool themeing in the line waiting for the ride.
I did the planning myself. For the hotel, I decided to stay closer to Roppongi, which is a very popular entertainment district in Tokyo, rather than Tokyo Disney Resort. The public transportation in Japan is very good...you can go anywhere by train very easily (including Maihama Station, the gateway to Tokyo Disney Resort). As was mentioned earlier, Japan is very safe and people are exceedingly polite. Major hotels have staff that speak English. At Tokyo Disney, maps and brochures are available in English...you pick them up and get other info as needed at Guest Relations.
At a Train Station in Tokyo. The signs do have English on them so it's not as hard as you can imagine.
Once on the train, the doors close and there is an automatic anouncement in English and Japanese to where the train is going and the next stop. Just before the train pulls into each station the anouncement comes on again to tell you what station you are about to arrive in and where this train will be going, (in English and Japanese)
The trains can be very crowded during rush hour. They run on time (you can set your watch by them) and run often and are very orderly. In the front car there is a window where you can watch the driver which is an experiance. I suspect the drivers must be video recorded because they point to all the signs to acknowlege they have looked and seen them. They are uniformed and where white gloves, very neat and clean.
Such wonderful pics you all are so kindly sharing. I always thought WDW had alot of well thought out theming details,,,but the detail there,,,all I can say is WOW!!!! I want to go there.
