HA! I wish they did! I think he said he did it for an in-house gag and they used it on the ride, too. The fellow he did it for was one of the over-seers for the ride - what a great treat! I'll tell DH he should get them to make posters, as there's a demand!
Very cool!
What a great update! And what an action packed day! You must have gone through a memory card with all of the pictures that you took on this day!
I was constantly worried about running out of camera memory!

We had an 8 GB card and a 16 GB card, and the plan was to dump the photos on DH's computer every night. But then we maxed out his hard drive's memory after the first week! It all worked out OK, though... 5,200+ photos later...
So did the good neighbour hotel mean you could have got a bus for free? But hey at least you've tried it the DIY way - and you've experienced THE walk
Yes! I'm not sure if it would have brought me back, but they had shuttles running from the hotel to the parks every morning!

And the crazy thing is, out of the thousands of hotels in Tokyo, only 15 are Good Neighbor hotels, and we happened to have been booked into one by Subaru's
travel agent!
Hey, first i would like to say that I am loving your TR. Second, how are you liking the iphone in Tokyo for quick calls and stuff? Im not completely sure on everything you got to do to get the phone to work in Japan, but do you think that it's worth the extra cash to use your iphone in japan?
Yes! OK, so what I did was buy a 50MB data plan before I left, with the intention of canceling it as soon as I got back, so it would just be the $60 charge. Usually, I go through upwards of 200MB of data per month

so I was super careful about only using the iPhone for emergency map/web searhes and the occasional Tweet. Well, as it turned out, I was too careful and didn't even use all 50 MB I'd paid for.

The real killer is the phone calls: Even with AT&T's international calling plan ("AT&T World Traveler" @ $5.99/month), they run $1.69/minute, and that's including incoming callseven to voicemail! I put the fear of God in everyone I knew and was like "DON'T call me or even leave me a message while I'm gone!"
So, basically, if you wanna use your iPhone in Japan, you're gonna get hosed. But you can get less hosed if you're careful about how you use it.
If you don't need an iPhone's functionality, I recommend renting a Japanese cell phone thru
http://www.rentafonejapan.com. They send it to your hotel and you just drop it at the desk or in the mail before you leave. It's much cheaper!
I am concerned about that when I go to DL and DCA this fall -- I have not been to DL since I was in my 20s... and with only two days and two kids, I am panicked about getting lost, and getting behind long lines, etc. and all that you mention!
Let me know if I can help! I can guarantee you won't get lost b/c the parks are so much smaller. Lines can be a trick (esp. if you're there on a Sunday when all levels of Annual Passholders are allowed incheck the blockout date schedule!), but if you can get there early in the day and stockpile FASTPASSes, you'll be OK.
Great idea the "souvenier cups and such" with dessert. That made me laugh - but I wouldn't want to schlep those around the park!
Well you know, the Japanese have thought of everythign! When you buy a dessert in a souvenir cup, they also give you a little plastic bag to carry it around in when you're done! And yeah, I believe the reason Main Street is covered is the amount of rain they get (maybe the wind too!).
Yes, the Tokyo Cinderella Castle is more elaborate...and the big difference is the much darker "bricks" on the lower sections...
They also have these huge turrets:

That's really interestingthanks!
Wow, I'm loving this TR! Tokyo DL and DS are on the top of my list of places to go in the world, but I'll have to live vicariously through you for now. Love all the details you write about, and I can't wait for the rest!
Glad to hear you're enjoying the report!
As my sweet southern friend would say, Oh my heck!

Totally... now why didn't I think to bring a novel...?
Great update! Hats off to you for managing that wait for Monsters Inc.! Love, love, love the Rox sundae! The cuteness factor (everywhere!) continues to blow my mind!
Seriously.
http://cuteoverload.com/ has *nothing* on Tokyo!
Wonderful ... brings back memories of my own trip. I wish I had more time like you did.
Even with nearly 3 weeks, we were wishing for more time too!
Thanks for posting all the menus! I am surprised or maybe I am not at how american they are for being in Tokyo.
Yeah, I guess it's like the weddingsthey figure people go to Disney expecting American-style food, maybe....
That was one of the initial problems with DLRP - the French weren't too keen on the American themes everywhere (and that you couldn't have wine in the MK!) so they changed a few bits to fit in with the French culture
That's the part I'm looking forward to most about DLRPall those restaurants!
amazing update!!!! LOVE all the pictures and details you shared with us!
That Monsters Inc ride line..holey moley!!! I don't know if I could have waiting that long...but good for your for sticking it out! I love all the Inc. merch!
so much Kawaii!!!!
Totally. And I know I never woulda waited in that line if it were anywhere else!
Unfortunately I'm a full vegetarian, not a pescetarian. Looks like I'll be surviving on chips and popcorn!
Though I noticed the menus didn't have many if any vegetarian options, but when I was in Japan there were many places that a vegetarian could eat. Just let your server know and they will be able to help you. Heck, you can by dried seaweed for a snack. Also there are rice cakes wrapped in seaweed too. I am not a vegetarian but I do like my veggies. I ate a lot of cabbage, corn, rice, and seaweed while I was there. Also if you eat eggs, there are some great egg dishes. Okonomiyaki was one of my favorite dishes which can be served vegetarian style.
Ooh! I'm glad to know they do have options for the vegetarians! I was worried about convincing my friend who hates fish she could eat in Japan, but it seemed like there were plenty of options for her too!
Thanks!
I can't tell you how much I am enjoying your report. Thanks so much and keep it coming!
Thanks for reading!
Man, I feel like a thread stalker looking for updates! Once again, great job!
Stalk away! It looks like I won't get to the next update til Sunday again, though...
I covet the Mike Melon Bread.
That is all.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but the octopus balls you referred to in an earlier post are called Takoyaki. They are a very popular snack served mostly at festivals. They are usually served with mayonnaise and bonito flakes which are made from the Bonito fish.
A-ha! I wondered about that, because they were ALL over Ueno park when I went there the next daywas it just because of Cherry Blossom Season, or are there always Takoyaki stands around the park?
