Today's POTC discussion

Is DLR having this same problem with these boats? Or Are the boats OK there because the infrastructure is different? Need to know if I should be concerned taking my camera there next month! (And no, I would never use flash And yes, I also turn off my LCD screen)

No Disneyland originally bought these boats and tested them and they didn't work properly. WDW stepped in and said oh we'll take them cause they are free.

Well, I love POTC don't get me wrong, but it will never be the Disneyland POTC. That's an amazingly immersive attraction! The longer boat ride gives you more time to be immersed into the story and provides a better story line.

However, I am looking forward to seeing the improvements in the WDW in early November.

POTC in WDW wasn't originally supposed to exist. Fans demanded it which prompted them to build a shorter version in WDW.

Yes they did. Out of all the reports I have seen or heard tho they are the only ones to say animatronics were still not working.

I would imagine that anyone/everyone reporting on it all rode POTC at different times. we all know that sometimes part of an attraction can be working for one ride-through and then not working the next..I wouldn't discount the DISUnplugged's report just because others experienced it differently. (Not saying you're discounting them rteetz, just commenting for myself).

I am not discounting them just adding in there that I haven't heard anyone else say they have seen things not working since the refurb. I would imagine whatever problems occured were fixed rather quickly then.

Yes I am aware of that. However, my point was that no matter how they plus up WDW, it will never quite be as good as Disneyland. Just my opinion...

Well i haven't been to Disneyland yet so i can't compare.

When you go to Disneyland, you will see what I mean, or check out a good YouTube ride through video. That will give you some frame of reference. The length of the ride alone allows for more story telling.

I knew you weren't discounting them I hope everything's running smoothly for WDW guests...just wish they could get that boat issue under control. Getting wet on POTC is not my idea of fun!

ITA POTC is definitely better out in Anaheim! Definitely a must do for all WDW vets heading to DLR!

Exactly. We do not ride Kali. We do not ride Splash. They're both great rides but we have no desire to spend the rest of the day in wet clothes and shoes. If they have turned POC into another "soak the riders" attraction, we will very sadly have to cross that off our list of things to do.

Unfortunately POTC isn't supposed to be a get wet attraction but because WDW management doesn't want to buy new boats or figure out how to fix the issue people are getting wet.

Maybe just request the second from last or last row? Let others go first if CMs have already filled those rows when you're called up?
Personally, I wear gym gear into the parks for the most part, so getting wet doesn't bother me much

Unfortunately POTC isn't supposed to be a get wet attraction but because WDW management doesn't want to buy new boats or figure out how to fix the issue people are getting wet.

Why is this suddenly an issue. What changed? People never got soaked before?

We're at Disney now and just rode POTC about 3 hours ago. After it being closed for so long, I was disappointed that not everything is working. The canon balls didn't work and the mermaids weren't working, either. I did notice a fire/burning smell in the burning village scene, and there appeared to be a new cloud effect on the ceiling that even my 5 year old noticed was new. The drop seemed the same as always to me and no one on our boat for soaked or even seemed wet. I did note that the first two rows had a bunch of little little kids in them...they seemed to be the under-8 crowd, riding with Mom in one row and Grandma in the other. With such a relatively light load up front, and two big dudes in the last two rows, I think the weight was more distributed to the back. We were the first to board our boat and the CM asked if we wanted to ride in the front row and we declined so he put us in row 5.

If the weight is distributed well it shouldn't be a problem much.

The drop wasn't changed at all.

The mermaids were simply turned off. Surprised the cannons were not working tho.

So I'm still confused. Did they change the boats? Or are they the same ones they've been using? Didn't small world have a problem a while ago due to the growing obesity of guests making the boats ride lower in the water? Is this the same issue?
