Today's POTC discussion

So I'm still confused. Did they change the boats? Or are they the same ones they've been using? Didn't small world have a problem a while ago due to the growing obesity of guests making the boats ride lower in the water? Is this the same issue?
They are the same boats since they got them a couple years or so ago from Disneyland. Yes part of the issue is the boats are lighter and if they have a lot of weight in the front it causes problems. However these boats still weren't built for WDW they were built for Disneyland.

Guess I should keep an eye on this situation for my trip in December...I love POTC but not too thrilled of the idea of getting soaked on it...or will at least try to sit in the back of the boat.

I will be somewhat disappointed if the mermaids aren't working. Those are super creepy. And honestly, no cannonballs. Sort of defeats the whole first scene. How do you infer there is a battle going on? Poor story telling that's for sure.

My family and I are heading to WDW for Thanksgiving week. We love POTC and are looking forward to riding it as often as possible during our visit. I will be going in with the expectations that nothing will be different from previous trips other than a freshening up of costumes and animatronics. My guess is that a lot of the disappointment in the refurbs that has been reported to date is due to unrealistic expectations that significant new stuff was going to be added.

I consider the refurbs analogous to changing out old, dimming fluorescent light tubes before they completely burn out. All you're doing is replacing the old with newer versions of the same. While everything in the room may appear brighter and fresher due to new bulbs, nothing has really changed. You didn't rip out the old fluorescent fixture and replace it with a disco ball, laser lights, and a fog machine!!!

Just read from Josh at easyWDW Pirates has been down more post refurb so far than prior to the refurb

The next-to-last time we rode POTC, we sat in the VERY front. I don't want to say that the CM's put a lot of weight in the front on purpose, but I did notice water sloshing around in the boat when we sat down (and thought, "this is weird?"). I got pretty wet on the left side of my shorts at a random moment in the ride. That being said, I don't think it didn't ruined the attraction experience.

So apparently they are still having problems. After being down for refurb for so long, I don't think it is an unrealistic expectation for the ride to not go down as often once it reopens.

Exactly. This ride needed a lot of work pre refurb and its apparent more work is still needed. No wonder imagineers wanted 6 or more months.
