On August 15, 1935, humorist Will Rogers and aviator Wiley Post were killed when their airplane crashed near Point Barrow, Alaska.

On August 15, 1945, the day was proclaimed V-J Day by the allies, a day after Japan agreed to surrender unconditionally.

On August 15, 1947, India became independent after some 200 years of British rule.

On August 15, 1961, East German workers began building the Berlin Wall.

One August 15, 1969, the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair opened in New York.

Well, that's it for me, folks. There will be no Today in History post tomorrow as I have the day off and Deb in IA will be back on Monday. I truely enjoyed filling in for her and hope you enjoyed the daily history lesson as much as I.
