Michigan, I have one themed for my college football team (and it's not a school in Michigan).

I do not have one, never have had one. Some that I see, like when at a stoplight, are pretty creative and/or funny.

Didn't you used to have Disney antenna toppers, Nancy? Or am I thinking of somebody else here? But without traditional antennas anymore, no place to put them.
I do!! Thanks for remembering that.......collection is sitting at a bit over 400.
Now I need to figure out what to do with them all as I am getting older.
New cars don't have antennas

There's personalized plates as in the what the plate number is is personalized but then there's plate design as well with the normal plate numbers. Both cost extra in my state.

I haven't done it but what I have done and what my husband had done on his prior vehicle is put a fun plate on the front of the car as our state doesn't require front and back plates. The current vehicle my husband has doesn't allow for it the same as the other one so we don't have it.

My mom growing up on her Honda Accord has a Disney license plate in the front and for me when I had one it was from my alumni which is what my husband also had on his prior vehicle. At this point I just have the plate frame from my alma mater around my license plate in the back.

My step-father-in-law had a military plate design on his truck with the normal plate number but I don't remember if they got that on the sedan they traded the truck in for.

I do see actual personalized plates out and about and agree it can be fun trying to figure out what they say if they chose a personalized plate number but I also like to look at the different plate designs you can get. Our state just passed to allow black out personalized plates for the color scheme.

As I already posted, we don't have personalized plates. However, when we moved to Maine, we registered both cars at the same time, so our numbers were sequential. Made it easy to remember! Time went on, one car died so we took it off the road, so when we replaced it we couldn't use the sequential plate, so they gave us a different number for DH's car. Fast forward about 4 years, when DD moved home from CT. She registered her car here in Maine, and her plate is the exact same 4 numbers, in the same order, as DH's... just the last two letters are different!

No personalized plates in our house. DH has one with a Masonic logo on it, but it's still just an assigned number.

Oh, and we're in Massachusetts:

Two of our three cars have personalized plates.
Mine has my initials and my wife's initials with a heart symbol in between. California allows you to put symbols on license plates, like a heart, a hand or a star. It can be anywhere in the letter number sequence of the plate. This is the third car this plate has been on, I have had it for about 20 years
My wife's implies she is a witch. It is the second car this plate has been on, she has had it at least 20 years.
My classic Mustang has the original black California license plates that were issued to the car in 1965. Some collectors believing having the original plate with the car adds hundreds of dollars to the value.
Two of our former cars also had personalized plates, but those plates had the car's nickname, so no reason to keep them and put them on another car.

My old memory is holding up, Nancy. :faint: Use them for ping pong ball matches, sans the ears.

Not personalized plates per se, but both DH and I have “theme plates” with numbers/letters assigned by the DMV. There are about three dozen available and I believe the cost is an extra $15 per year. Personalized plates have an even higher charge.

I have a lighthouse on mine and DH has waterfowl.

My dad always had personalized plates on our family cars growing up (they weren’t exciting messages.. they were various combinations of his initials and meaningful-to-him numbers.)
Same. NY was one of the first states to offer them, when they were known as vanity plates. My dad had them going back to the early 1960’s. There was originally no extra cost but at some point, as they became more popular, the state started charging an initial fee plus an extra fee on your annual registration.

Like many states, they also have “custom plates” with over 200 different designs, including occupations, military/veterans, sports teams, colleges, state bird or flower, region-specific, etc.

Neither DH nor I have anything special, just the standard-issue license plates with randomly assigned letters/numbers. Not interested in having them personalized.

Georgia has tons of options for semi personalization through specialty & prestige license plates. You don't get to pick the numbers on the plate but can pick which organization you want to have on your plate.

There is a long list here which even includes neighboring states universities. For example you can get a Clemson plate in Georgia despite Clemson being located in South Carolina.

https://mvd.dor.ga.gov/motor/plates/PlateSelection.aspx

You can also get a vanity plate with your desired letters and numbers but they are all I believe put on the basic Georgia plate and can not be combined with a specialty & prestige license plate design.

Then there are sites like this:
https://v2.platemakrs.com/

That let you design your own plate. Not sure how many states allow you to create your own plate with a different design but using the same letters and numbers registered to your car.

I’m in Alabama and mine is my grandmother nickname 🥰
My siblings and I take photos of personalized plates (at red lights or in parking lots, not while driving) and text them to each other to try to guess the meaning.

We just have one and it's on DH's car. It's a military acronym (one his last military jobs) on military retired plates.

I had a vanity plate through my 20s. I'm 5' tall and my dad (who passed last month) called me little one as did other family members. So my plate in NY was LIL 1. I let it go once I moved to PA.

I have one. I live in Virginia and you know what we love? Personalized plates lol.
The extra fee isn’t much.
My brother used to live in VA and anytime I visited it seemed like everybody had personalized plates!

I don't have one but am thinking about it for my new car.

I have a Vanity plate on my vehicle. NH supposedly has the most vanity plates per capita in the US. ⁉️

My plate is of course Disney related - LUVDSNY. I believe we only pay maybe $40 more a year for the plate.

I have had personalized plates on two previous cars and I have them now. In the past, I had a KISS related plate and a Chicago Blackhawks related plate. I would have kept my BHawks plate, but when I bought my new car, I wasn't able to swap them so I got new ones that relate to my daughter's hobby. She doesn't do that hobby any longer and I am considering getting new ones, but haven't taken the time to research what I want. My current car has the California Museum plates aka the Snoopy plate so I only get 6 characters instead of 7. I won't give up Snoopy no matter what.

Several years ago, my BFF has SF 49er related plates. She came out one morning to find that her car had been egged...but they only egged her license plates. LOL

We live in Wisconsin, we have two cars and both have personalized license plates. Our first car's licence plate is sports related. The other one is on my DD's car and has her nickname on it.
