To the person in the Target parking lot today...

Oh come on people - get real. To some people an extra 20 feet is like 2 miles. BTW I have a new car - but I have never suffered damage on any of our cars. If a cart rolls into my car - oh well.

I'm so glad that your neighbors' property is the "least of your worries". How wonderful that you have such a high opinion of yourself. You're right, I don't know what your situation is and you very well may not be able to return the cart. I respect that, I do. What I don't respect is your inability to see to it that the cart gets returned. Why can't you ask a store employee to help you? Why would you take the risk of causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage to someone else's property? Why does that not matter to you. Would you not be upset if you had a dent in your car because of someone else's laziness and indifference? And, yes, I use the word "lazy". To be not willing to ask for help is lazy in my book.

marlasmom I'm glad that you are okay with your car getting damaged. Of course I do worry about my car getting damaged. Mostly because I work very hard for my property and I take very good care of it. Excuse me if someone else's carelessnes annoys me because it could possibly cause damage to my property. Also I guess I shouldn't be worried that it would cost me a couple hundred dollars to fix - money I really don't have. But I guess since you are okay with all of this then I should be too.

You can always park WAY far from the store if you are so worried about your cars.

What if it's raining? Snowing? Icy? What if I have my 3 kids with me? I should have to park way far away just because you don't feel the need to return your cart to the corral? Plus, if it's windy, it doesn't matter where you park. I once saw a cart that was left in the front of a parking row run all the way down to the third space from the end before it veered to the right and smacked into a car. Probably someone who didn't want their car hit, so they parked far a way. They got a big surprise when they came out of the store!
Like others have said, if you have a disability and you can't return the cart, either pull your car up to the front and have an employee help you load your items or have an employee take you to your car. Then they can take the cart back. If I'm in a parking lot and I see an older or handicapped person or a parent with a bunch of kids struggling with a cart, I will always offer to return it for them. I'm sure many other people would do the same and a store that would refuse to help me wouldn't get my business again.

I don't know, but it just seems to me that no matter how disabled you are, pushing a LOADED cart around the store, through the checkout, out the door, into the parking lot, and to your car is a lot more strenuous than pushing an EMPTY cart a few more feet into a corral.

You said it was a windy day. Isn't it possible that the cart was blown out of the corral and it was put back properly?

Pushing a cart has been a necessity for my balance. I park near a wayward cart, push it in the store, and then leave it where I found it. No I'm not lazy, just have vestibular troubles.

I am very hurt by all of you who assume that my medical difficulties make me lazy.

And for those of you who take pride in your cars, great. So do I. No one in my family has ever had a dent due to a cart.

Pembo - I want to clarify I do not think you are lazy nor do I doubt your disability and how frustrating it must be. What I do not understand is why you would not ask a worker at the store to help you with the cart to make sure that it is returned. Just because no one in you family has ever had their car hit does not mean that it doesn't happen.

Also I understand that the original post was more then likely not directed at someone like yourself but more at the 99% of the people that are perfectly capable of taking back their cart and just don't.

Maybe you could use a foldable walker, Pembo, so that you won't have to depend so much on shopping carts.

This happened to me and is what made me leave State Farm. I had a $600 estimate. My comprehensive deductible was $100, my collision $500. Guess what? Since the cart COLLIDED with my vehicle, the $500 deductible applied! I paid for it myself. But I later found that most insurance companies do the same.

I had a major dent put into my fender by a shopping cart. My car was fairly new and I saw the cart rolling towards it as I exited the store. DD was little and my choice was to let the cart hit the car or leave DD standing in the parking lot while I ran to the cart. Needless to say DD won and my car lost.

Just curious why you wouldn't just walk to a corral and put it away? You only put it away A. if it's windy or B. if you're close.... and close would be??? Right next to your car?? Within say, 10 steps? I just don't see why it's so inconvienient.

At Superwallmart, it is usually quite a distance...if I am within 3 or 4 spaces I'd return it.

my grandfathers car was damaged by a shopping cart - he made the store pay for the damage. Even though they have a sign posting they are not responsible, my grandfather went to management and said "it's YOUR property and YOUR cart so it's YOUR responsibility".::yes::

Another lazy person. Why even go to Super Walmart if you can't handle walking across the parking lot to return a cart? Are you that lazy or just ignorant?

Never meant to imply that you are lazy. I don't think that you are. However, you could ask for help from an employee if you need it. If you choose not to for whatever reason and just leave the cart anywhere, that's your decision. But, then don't get upset when other people are mad that their cars got damaged because someone didn't put their cart where it belonged.

I just can't imagine it's THAT far, that you can't just return it to a corral.

I agree. If it's an issue have an employee walk you out or park next to the corral.

I'm surprised that you'd say this considering that you're a big believer in exercise and staying fit. (nothing snide or sarcastic meant from this comment either, please.)

Playing the devils advocate here, perhaps Pembo is feeling too proud to ask for help. Sometimes asking for help is the worst part of being less abled than others.
I guess that's not a real great excuse but it could be a reason....I mean maybe it's the feeling of a loss of independance for her to HAVE to ask someone for help.

That I can understand.

But I do get angry when our vehicle gets damaged because of other people's carelessness.

Why don't I ask for help? I have, only to be told, to just leave the cart in the parking lot~they have people who collect them.

As for a foldable walker? Didn't have one at the time I was having so much vestibular trouble and needed that cart.

skiwee1 - At our Walmart the cart corrals are in the middle of a VERY large parking lot. Not too conveniently placed.

People, you need to respect where others are coming from. Remember, what you see of people isn't who they are.
