To the person in the Target parking lot today...

SuperWal-mart really does not have enough places. I hear ya on not wanting to walk more than a few spaces there. By the time I unload all my groceries, scan them myself to avoid waiting in line for 15 mins., bag them myself and get them and my restless preschooler in the car, I'm done. By then I am usually wondering why I did not go to Publix. When I see carts in the parking lot, I am wondering why there is not an employee out there gathering them up. Call me lazy (I really am). I am sick of the Stupid Wal-mart making me work so hard to spend my money. If I see someone walking in to the store, I always ask them if they would like my cart.

Some people are just not so nice. They talk, spout off, not thinking how their language and/or actions affect others.

I don't know, but it just seems to me that no matter how disabled you are, pushing a LOADED cart around the store, through the checkout, out the door, into the parking lot, and to your car is a lot more strenuous than pushing an EMPTY cart a few more feet into a corral.
Your thoughts, Deb, seem so correct.

hmmm, come on people.....sounds like A LOT of personal attacks going on here...

Try doing a search on Pembo and you'll find that she recently survived brain surgery.... so what if she's not being able to push the cart back to the corral!!! She's gone through A LOT and has survived. She's actually able to go out now and do things, yes, like pushing a big loaded cart. Walk a mile in her shoes, then come back here and talk about pushing a cart around.

Now, please stop attacking her and tell us that you put your cart back EVERY time... yeah, every time!!!

ok, off my soapbox now. Sorry.

I have not read all the replies so this might have been already said but if it is a dent and not a scratch in the bumper all you need to do is reach your hand in behind the bumper and push out the dent. It should be pretty easy to do. Also there might be a company that is near you that has suction equipment that will pull out dents in cars.

Jeez, you mean like someone calling another poster lazy or ignorant? I can't believe that's gone unchallenged.

Another lazy person. Why even go to Super Walmart if you can't handle walking across the parking lot to return a cart? Are you that lazy or just ignorant?

Damn. The fall off that high horse you're perched on is going to hurt more than a little, dontcha think?

No zag, that was in reference to another poster's reply here, speaking of some very nasty language she heard while in the lot with her young daughter. I was responding that some people speak with total disregard for those around them, as if they are the only ones around. That reply, along with another saying the language was fine, both were apparently deleted by the DIS Team for bypassing the built in DIS filter.

Thank you Jeanny for your kind words. Not everyone here is as nice as you!

Has anyone ever heard of compassion for others?

once again this is a topic that just never fails to amaze me for the amount of judgemental hatred that can be spewed.

And again -- I can't claim that I have always put my cart back 100% of the time. Almost all the time....yes. Whenever I can park close to a corrall...you bet. When circumstances make it beyond difficult for me.........I secure it the best I can so it doesn't go rolling and I away I go.

I guess I'm just gonna have to go on that list of lazy people, and I can't even claim to have recently undergone major surgery involving a bone saw and my skull.

To the people that are so worried about getting your car dinged by a cart maybe you should consider parking way way way far away from everyone else so that it doesn't happen.

After all, if you guys can't control how much other people are willing to walk to avoid hitting your car with their cart maybe the solution is to walk a little further so it isn't a problem.

Well, I can claim to have ALWAYS put the cart back. I usually park right next to the corrals, if I can, so that it's easier to put them back. And I have two children too and I leave them in the car while I return the cart. It's never more than 20 feet to the nearest corral.

No, I was not aware of Pembo's medical situation. But, I don't understand why a store employee can not be sought out to help return the cart. I'm also bothered by her statement that returning the carts is the "least of her worries". Unless someone is currently experiencing a medical emergency, I believe they should be more concerned with the possibility of damaging someone else's car. I would feel terrible causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage to someone's car just because I didn't feel it was necessary to return a cart.

Ok, I may be speaking out of turn here, but "I personally" think what Pembo meant by "returning a cart is the least of her worries"...is, she's alive, she can cry, she can laugh (at least on one side of her face), she can breathe, she can walk... she survived brain surgery...she could have died... those things are more important than returning a cart, (even with the store personnel telling her it was ok to leave it in the lot).

RM, I totally agree with you about parking far, far away... One of my professors at work told me that no matter where he parks in the lot, way far away from everyone and he could be the only truck in that area, watch....when we get back to his truck, it will be surrounded by vehicles. happens every time, we just laugh now.

Now, could we please just put all our energies into helping EsmeraldaX find out who stole the milk from her office refrigerator and forget about returning carts to the corral.

Actually, I have found that the further away I park from the store, the fewer corrals there are.
I realize it is just a car but I try to take care of it just the same. It ticks me off when people don't put thier carts back. And many times I will offer to return a cart for someone who has kids or is elderly or seems to be having trouble putting the cart back. Of course, people look at you like you are crazy when you try to help.:p I think what ticks most people off in this thread is the lack of concern in the posts questioned. If someone is unable that's one thing. If someone gets a kick out of not returning it & ticking others off, that's another.

Personally, I feel it is very unsafe to leave your kids in the car while you return the cart to the corral-they could be car-jacked!

Do you honestly think that a runaway cart is going to cause "hundreds of dollars" of damage. They are plastic. I think a run-away cart would have to be going very far, very fast, to do any damage whatsoever.

We drive relatively expensive cars - not by my choice, but DH has a knee problem and is much more comfortable in big cars. Our vehicles lately have been Lincoln Town cars. We take good care of the cars in order to maximize their resale value, but we have never had shopping cart damage to any car. In fact the only damage we have had to the last five or 6 cars is a tiny mark that I did myself while pulling into the garage during a horrendous rain storm. I "touched" the riding mower with the fender.

And after all, it's just a hunk of metal.

Why is it that when someone does the RIGHT thing here on the DIS then they are in the wrong? I do put my cart back EVERY TIME. I guess I was taught better then some. I always put things away when finished with them.

So take them with you. My kids always walked to return the cart. When they were infants I carried them. I guess some of us can do two things at once.

:) Who would have thought that this could have provoked such a debate? Oh for the days when people helped you out to the car with your things and took the carts back for you!

But c'mon. If you can push a cart around a store and out to your car, you can push it over to the coral.....my grocery store offers pick up if you don't want to do that; dont' they all. Can't you drive up to the door and get your bags if you like? I guess Target doesn't have anything like that -- but I think you could ask if you find yourself physicslly unable.
