To the person in the Target parking lot today...

Yeah! Get off that silly high horse you're on and let the world go to Hell in a handbasket like the rest of us are!!!
:p

I have a hard time walking the long distances from far away in a parking lot to the store with my disablity; guess I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot!<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_5_48.gif' border=0></a><a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_7_3.gif' border=0></a>

Parking far away wouldn't work real well in the Dallas area. It can be very windy and we often see shopping carts racing across parking lots and even out of the lots into streets. We always joke that the carts are trying to escape. :)

I always put my cart in one of the corrals. I assume that those who don't often have a good reason and since I can't tell the difference between someone who has a reason and someone who is simply "lazy", I choose not to worry about it.

What I hate are the door dings and scratches from someone walking by. Those seem to get me every time.

To the OP, I'm sorry that you have so much damage. Some stores around here have metal carts, is that what got your car? It's a shame.

To the people that are so worried about getting your car dinged by a cart maybe you should consider parking way way way far away from everyone else so that it doesn't happen.

After all, if you guys can't control how much other people are willing to walk to avoid hitting your car with their cart maybe the solution is to walk a little further so it isn't a problem.

If you go back and read, you will see that I stated I was parked far far away from the store. That is where I always park.

The bumper is plastic, so I cannot push the dent out, and it is a major large crease. I was suprised that it dented and didn't crack, seeing as that they are plastic.

I did not attack anyone, or call anyone names. I don't believe in doing that. I am well aware of Pembo's situation, and I do not think she is lazy. I think she is an amazing woman to come through what she has, and a certain other thread that we post in together would not be the same without her.

I think people should be able to discuss both sides of a topic without getting so nasty.

But, I don't understand why a store employee can not be sought out to help return the cart.

You're kidding, right? It's hard enough to get the employees at Winn Dixie to even put the groceries into bags. I can't imagine trying to find one to do anything "extra". :p

What makes me laugh is the people that will haul their carts up onto a grassy median rather than walking it to the cart corral.

So take them with you. My kids always walked to return the cart. When they were infants I carried them. I guess some of us can do two things at once.

I have never, ever seen a person with two young kids unload their groceries, then go to the corral with the basket and then walk the two kids back to the car....and I wouldn't expect that either.

My boys were 18 months apart..one was in the seat of the basket, the other I would hold his hand & push basket to the car. Then the walker would be put in the car seat, then the younger one, then unload the groceries.....so I'm trying to see how this would work..I'd have to put the walker in his seat...then unload the groceries.....then take the walker out of his seat and walk to the corrall. Then hold the younger kid in my arms hold the olderone's hand and walk back to the car. So Then I'd have to unlock the car, and release the walker's hand to put the younger one in the car-he could walk off in that time period....yep sounds easy and safe thing to do!

Don't you guys have "pick up"? I mean, our Giant Eagle (and the other stores around here) let you pull up to the curb to get your groceries. Nobody helps you load or anything, but you don't have to bring the cart to the lot.

Again, if you are pushing the cart around the store and out to your car, how is going to the coral so much more difficult?

LOL, are you serious? That is exactly what I did for years...but it wasn't 2 kids, it was 3. Now that they are older, they take the cart back for me....
Do you honestly think that a runaway cart is going to cause "hundreds of dollars" of damage. They are plastic. I think a run-away cart would have to be going very far, very fast, to do any damage whatsoever.
Actually, yes, a runaway cart CAN do hundreds of dollars of damage. Ours (at the grovery store) are metal and they are heavy...so heck yeah, they can definitely do damage.

nope. We have two smaller grocery stores here in our town. The first has ONE cart corrall that is way up by the front of the parking lot and most of the spaces next to it actually belong to the Health Club. The 2nd has 3 corralls and depending on my luck I might be able to get a space fairly close to it. If I'm there right before or after picking kids up from school (like most the other Moms) -- chances are I could have to walk up a long way. Add in bad winter weather and a parking lot that might be covered in snow and ice and a baby that is screaming because the cold wind is hitting his face ..... then I try to limit my shopping to what will fit in a bag that I can carry.

There is one store over in Indiana that is more expensive but does have people that walk your groceries out and load the car. When the baby was smaller, I would often shop there just for the convenience.

With my 3, I would have on in the cart and the other two would walk with me to the car, holding onto the cart. They would continue to do so as I unloaded the cart into the trunk...then we would go back to the corral, I would hold the youngest and the other 2 would hold hands while I held one of their hands and we would walk back to the car. The walkers would get into the car and then I would put the baby in the carseat...it really wasn't difficult.

After unloading groceries I would let the walker walk to the corral with me while the baby was in the seat. When you get to the corral take the baby out of the seat and the walker by the hand and go back to the car. I did this many times and see people do it all the time. Can't your walker stand with you for two minutes while you unload groceries? How hold is the child? What about leaving the cart with groceries at the front of the store, carry the baby and walk the other kid to the car. Buckle them all in and then drive right up to the curb and unload the groceries while kids are safely buckled in. There are a lot of options if one just wants to do them.

I only have one, but I always took her too...and I forgot about the child labor when she was older!:D

Seriously, I remember parking near the coral when she was a baby just so I could more easily return the cart.

I still want to know...how do you guys push the cart around the store and out to your car but are unable to return the cart?

Exactly! We did this for years. I am so glad to see others do this as well and not make having kids an excuse for being lazy.

I watched a metal cart wreak havoc in a ShopRite parking lot this winter. It was a very windy day and the cart took off. It smashed....and I mean SMASHED into 4 or 5 cars. It was like watching bumper pool.

Does anyone really think that's right or fair? And does anyone really think that having children excuses them from doing something to prevent it? Or a disability that allows them to do their shopping, load their car and then abandon the cart in the lot?

Turn your cart over on its side if you don't return it. Hitch it to a curb. Do SOMETHING to prevent damage to other people's property. Even if your market has people to pick up carts, they can't be everywhere to pick up a cart the minute it's abandoned. Cars are expensive to repair and if it's a lease, people MUST repair it before turning it in. It's a needless accident that doesn't have to happen.

that in a great many of these cases (note I did NOT say ALL) carts left around the lot and similar (frozen foods "put back" by the canned goods is another example) is just a symptom of the way society has degenerated into a bunch of "I got mine, over-entitled, rudites", yes I made up that word, but you get the idea

Well, Thank you to those of you who have said such kind things about me and my situation. I'm glad you can try to understand someone else's difficulties.

To those of you who walk your kids to the corral and back, good for you. Obviously you have different kids than the rest of us. Ours aren't always that perfect.

And to those who want to know how you can push a cart around a store and shop but not put it back? I use the cart for balance. Without it, I'd not do well. How do I get to the store? Park near an abandoned cart.

As for finding an employee to help? Like I said before, they told me to leave it. Not all grocery stores have carry-out services. I asked for help once and the girl laughed and said "It would be nice if we had that, huh?"

Oh, that makes sense:D . But you have to know you are in the minority. Most people are just lazy and sorry you have to get lumped in with them.

You said it was a windy day. Isn't it possible that the cart was blown out of the corral and it was put back properly?
You know, I actually saw this at Target on Sunday. It was very windy (Frances is visiting us this week) and Pete and I were walking out of the store and we saw a cart that was in the cart corral roll backwards and turn left and start rolling down a slope! I swear, those carts have mind of their own. These two ladies were walking and talking and not paying attention and it was headed right towards them. I yelled, "Look out" and she snagged it, kept talking while pushing it into the store. Pete said the cart was saying, "Oooh, pick me, pick me!" :p

I feel for those who are challenged, I really do. And I understand that a shopping carts placement can be the least of someone's worries.

But, I and my husband don't like door dings, cart damage, etc on our vehicles. Heck, we are bothered when WE do something stupid to cause a ding or something. It's not anyone elses place to decide what is or is not acceptable damage to our property.

I would feel absolutely horrible if my carelessness caused damage to anyones vehicle.

If or when somebody else makes our car or truck payments, then they can have the right to destroy or allow something else to damage their finish if they choose.

I do it all the time.

I would also like to point out that since the store will cover the cost of a damaged car, they aren't paying that...I am. I am positive the store isn't eating that cost, it is being absorbed into higher prices. So, not only do I have to deal with my own car being damaged...I get to pay for others too.

I really don't understand the indifference to damaging someone's property....expensive property to boot!
