First of all OMG...this makes me giddy all over! Reading the posts about winning...gave me shivers (especially one that I read about winning a night in the castle! :goodvibes )

My question/delimma is this...Should I alert my kids to YOAMD or not? I don't want to steal any magic by them:

a. being disappointed by NOT winning something while we are at WDW or worse yet...
b. being disapponted if they DO win that they didn't win a 'bigger' prize...or just...
c. wasting wonderful, fun, valuable WDW time looking for those white vests! ;)

Advice gates open!

come do you not think they will see or have seen any advertising for this,Were in the uk and we get YOMD on tv adverts

We watch very little TV :sad2: Nothing against it...just too busy with other things! My little one watches a couple of shows on Disney, but I don't think I have ever seen an ad on there.

You may be right :confused3

I have seen very few advertisments about the YOAMD! We don't watch a lot of TV either, especially the kids. I may have seen one or two commercials at one point, we are big Disney fans, but my kids don't know about it! Oh and I don't think that you should tell them, it's Disney so it's magical just the way it is! Have fun!

If it were me, I would not say anything to the kids. My kids are older DS17 and DD14 so they knew about the program (we did not win anything last April). I think if it happens, great - all the more magic. If there are expecting, it might take away from their experience (they may be a bit disappointed that they did not win!). Anyway, just my 2 cents...

My daughter is 10 and we did nothing but talk about it before going. Of course, we also joked about how we probably wouldn't win, but it was fun nonetheless! Thankfully we won Dream fastpasses in August! We're going two more times before it ends and we'll still be on the lookout for the Dream Squad!

I wouldnt tell, so there is no disappointment if you dont win, and a nice surprise if you do.

Go to the park w/ all intentions on NOT winning... if you win it will be a surprise for all of you... you can tell them about it but I wouldnt hype it up at all...It sounds already like you are just focused on that. Go and enjoy your trip and if you do win something enjoy the moment then!

We just poured five dollars into a claw machine and (of course) got nothing, which had my dd9 in tears for 1/2 an hour, so I am not planning on making much of it!

IMOH i would not say anything. My girls we be almost 4&7 when we go. they no nothing about it. They would be so disappointed if they didn't win anything. My DD has a hard time when we do Turtle talk with crush and she doesn't get picked so the prize thing would be all the same. So if we win while were there its just an added bonus. My DH would probably disagree with me because he thinks that I shelter them way to much and that they need to learn "lessons of life" one being that not everyone wins something. You didn't mention the ages of your kids. You also are the one that can predict how they will acted if they don't win any prizes.

I'd downplay it. It'll make it even more special if you win something.

I wouldn't mention the prize portion of it, but they should probably know about the employees in white vest being safe people if they try to talk to them. I am glad I read about this promotion on this board or I would have probably avoided someone looking like they worked there approaching me. I mean really do they need to do onsite surveys (that's what I would have been thinking).

note didnt read all the thread if the kids are old enough tell them about karma and then tell them to get alot of it before they go to disney world but dont tell them why and tell them to do nice things for people in disney world but dont tell them why and then if they did do enough karma stuff they will get a prize for sure using just there karma points

Knowing my kids, I have chosen to not mention it. One or two of them might be very disappointed after building it up in their heads. The ones who can read will see things, I am sure, but I am not talking about it unless they bring it up.
I would hope my kids would do nice things for people always, not just hoping to win something but even if they are the nicest kids, it still doesn't guarantee a win.

I wouldn't tell.
Dissapointment would be awful if they didn't win anything or let alone see the dream team, you know?

I told my mom and she get's so dissapointed when she doesn't even SEE the dream team.:rolleyes1

good question!!

I'm not going to tell my kids...heck, I might not even tell my dh! :rotfl2: ( I can see him stalking the dream team members, LOL:lmao: ) :teeth:

I'm not telling anyone. My 2 DS's are 12 & 13 so it probably wouldn't make much difference to them. But I'm definitely not telling my DW, she would be more disappointed than the boys.
