something I'd like to mention. I just 'love' seeing all the kids wearing their costumes princess: in the parks (*sigh* to have a little one,,,,,). but I have noticed some parents don't think so far ahead about their kids comfort!! I saw two little girls ( maybe 6 yrs old) walking ( ok, stumbling) up main street in their 'fancy' little plastic high heels. uhh, how afar did you think they would get before they couldn't walk anymore??? yea its 'cute' for a little while,, but they will be miserable pretty soon! :sad2: I did not see the parents carrying backpacks , or whatever which MIGHT carry some other type of shoes for them to finally be able to walk. ( If they did a locker hold,, that is still a LONG way back to get the shoes!).. PLEASE carry other shoes, etc for your little ones to wear when they get tired < oh, I know they will be stubborn at first,, they HAVE to wear their pretty shoes> .. plus having a change of clothes in a locker is very smart. Also parents should carry some type of 'bag' to hold stuff like wands, crowns, etc when the child gets tired of carrying them! (besides the fact they will need 2 hands to hang on some rides).

I bet you would be surprised at how bright we moms are ;) We put DD's real clothes on underneath the costume and as soon as breakfast is over, the dress goes in the basket under the stroller. When it comes to the shoes, forget it, the easiest way to avoid that confrontation is to leave the plastic ones at home! The princess dresses Disney sells are pretty long and cover up whatever shoes they have on anyway, so the comfy Nike sandals were an easy sell! We also tend to be very early morning people, we get to the parks for a pre-opening breakfast, ride what we want to and by lunchtime when it gets hot, we head back to the resort for swimming and naps and to drop off the dress!

One our extended family trip in 2003 my cousin's dd wanted to wear her dresses. I know for her the compromise was to wear it w/ sneakers or she didn't wear it.

My girls are 8 & alomst 10. When we went to MNSSHP both had their "cute shoes" but wore tennis shoes instead. DD8 is even afraid to wear the dres to dnner for fear that she'll ruin it accidentally. I agree with previous poster, most mom's are pretty wise. Dads, on the other hand, are clueless. I had to fight DH over the shoes issue. "If she wants to wear the darn things.........." :sad2:

I always put my 2.5 yo dd's clothes on under her dress. After our dinner at 1900 Park Faire in May, she refused to remove the dress. If I'd forced the issue, I would have been one of "those parents" with a kicking, screaming, tired little one.

Obviously the OP's comments weren't directed to the parents who do think ahead, but I agree that that I too have see some kids in those dresses who just have not looked comfy and there didn't seem to be a mom or dad with a change of clothes or shoes trailing them either.

I am the OP. & after posting this I thought.. umm "THIS" probably doesn't even need to be posted here as most of you are resourceful enough parents.
I was writing that for the CLUELESS parents. hmmm guess I should have listed this as a "pet peeve"? or "have you seen that"? the 2 girls I saw, if they had other clothes on under, were very well covered. but I saw no bag or shoes they could change into, the lockers seemed a LONG way away for that, if they even brought them!

( I was trying to be helpful,, maybe something someone would overlook in all the excitement, especially for a family who had NEVER been to WD & not realize the walking you do!)

why would you worry about what other people's children are wearing? How do you know there wasn't a family member sitting somewhere else in the park waiting for them with a bag of their stuff. Sure we all see things that are shocking to us at the parks but if they aren't bothering you, why worry about it?

I guess you can figure what my pet peeve would be....

Last month we did CRT and DD 2 1/2 walked around Fantasyland with DH in her heels (because she wanted to and since it wasn't causing her harm we let her)while my other daughter and I sat by the carousel and waited for them to enjoy the rides. Of course we had other shoes which she put on when she had enough of the heels.

OP, I couldn't believe it when I saw a little girl in hard plastic "princess" shoes on a rainy day at MK. (Like you'd war for "dress up" - not real shoes.) She was with her dad who didn't appear to have a backpack or any other way to carry extra shoes. No, it was not my business, but I bet the girl was in tears within an hour in those shoes in the rain.

I believe the OP was just giving a nice reminder. Sometimes in all the hype and excitemenet--one may forget to pack appropriate things to change into. It' a great tip and reminder.

Howdy everyone,

My DD 4, always wears shorts & a tank top under here princess dress and never ever plastic shoes, only sneakers. She comletely understands and usually after breakfast she doesn't want to wear the dress and more anyway. I could not imagine letting her wear that all day.

I know everyone here does something similar, but sometimes non-Dis members can use a wake-up call about going to Disney.

TTFN,

huh? :confused3

well gee, guess I am sorry that I SHOULD be concerned a little girl may 'twist' her ankle after walking all day in heels.. OR the parents may just start yelling at her,, for wanting to wear them in the 1st place, so tuff, kid.

you are right, I had NO idea that another family member did NOT have their 'stuff' somewhere, but since it was a pretty light day, walking up main street, this group of 5 were by themselves & not carrying anything.

If no one wants some 'concerned' suggestions , they may have overlooked,, well they can ignore my post.

I didn't mean my post in a bad way ...

(and what if their stuff was in a locker? or they just ran into MK to do the bfast and planned on returning right to their resort?)

I guess it just hit home to me as we just did that....what a horrible mom I must be. I let my DD wear them and she was fine -now me, I twisted my ankle on those stupid grooves on mainstreet wearing sneakers....so maybe I would have been better off in my princess shoes.

suggestions are great and much appreciated but you are suggesting something based on what you "saw" not from your own experience with it, correct?

ETA * in the grand scheme of things I guess it really doesn't matter - everyone is going to do what they want anyway. I can't really imagine any parent not being that prepared with a change of clothes/shoes........I know we always take an aresonal of stuff with us.

I shouldn't let someone's comments bother me....:)
