I have a question about tipping. Last year in our meal plan the tips where included so I did not have to worry about it. This year with the meal plan they are not if I understand it correctly. Well, we will be eating at Cinderellas Royal Table, Kona Cafe, Chef Mickeys, Chrystal Place and the 1900 Park Fare. All of those will be a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids age 2 and 5. Anyone have any idea of how much I should plan for tipping............at least a estimate. Thanks for your help in advance.

I tip at WDW sit-down restaurants like I would at home, 15-20% depending upon service

I suppose the buffets could be a bit less since the servers are only really bringing you drinks.

Very true............I think it was easier when it was all included but it is ok.............I am just excited to be going.

They will give you suggested amounts when they provide your receipt to sign.

T.I.P.'s used to be given before meals

18-20% They don't think too much of themselves do they?

But then I'm cheap. :rolleyes1

At CRT our tip was included in our 2 TS credits from the DDP.

The bill will show examples of 18-20% of the bill. It did help though.

Can't help much, we are a family of 8 so we automatically have to pay an 18%. Which is fine, I would probably pay that anyways, I just don't like being told I have to pay it.
We didn't have to pay at CRT, it was included in the package already.

We just got back a few weeks ago and tipped based on the recommended 18% to 20%. However, at Yak & Yeti, we had a little issue with their recommendation. At Yak & Yeti, our server brought us a hand written "bill" that was grossly inflated. At all other restaurants, we received a printed bill with the Disny logo, etc. and recommended tip amounts. But at Yak & Yeti, the server wrote it himself. I looked at the total and was shocked that it could cost two adults and three children $150 to eat there especially when the adult entres were around $22 and we didn't have anything extra that wasn't included with the dining plan. So, I started going through this handwritten "bill" line by line. Per the menu, kids meal were $7.49 and included drink and dessert. On the "bill", they wrote 5 drinks for a total of $15. Then, they wrote 5 desserts for something like $35. Then, they listed the kids meals at $7.49 each. The kids only got the kid portions, they did not get adult portions of anything. So, they listed the kids drinks and desserts at adult prices in addition to the price for the kids meal. The total for each kid on their "bill" ended up being almost $20. The kind server said this was a courtesy so we could calculate our tip. The dining credits were charged correctly to our account. But I was shocked that they gave us a handwritten "bill" that was grossly inflated over the menu prices and then expected us to tip 18-20% of that. We just calculated how much it cost using menu prices and tipped based on that amount. This only happened at Yak & Yeti and I'm not sure how they got away with it, but we were more cautious to closely examine the recommended tips after that.

Did you call in a manager to discuss that server's handwritten bill? I've never seen that happen in a Landry restaurant, ever (Y&Y is owned by the Rainforest Cafe folks). It's always printed out formally - it's that way at RFC.

I would have called BS on that one to the server's boss.... and you still probably could. I would also send the nice executives at Disney a little note to express my displeasure and distrust at what their corporate partner is doing to Disney's customers....

You can also go and look at all of the menus, if you need to get an idea of approximately how much money you will need to allow for the trip. I did that on our last trip.

We did that as well. My cousin called out the restaurants and I listed the prices (all of our character meals are buffets) & actually some are holiday priced. I'm putting that money to the side so it's ready to go

I totally agree...I am a 20% tipper almost always. On the rare occasion that I tip less, it's because the server really doesn't deserve it. If the server is excellent or if we have stayed for a long time at a table, I will tip more than 20%. They are actually losing money by expecting the 18%.

I think that when it's added onto the bill, people just pay it and move along. They don't always think to add more because, in their mind, the math is already figured out!

No, I didn't call in a manager, but you're right, I should send a note to someone in management at Disney. We ate at Y & Y at the end of a full day at AK. We were the last reservation of the day and I kind of felt like they were anxious for us to leave. And after that little episode, I was anxious to leave too. But, now that I think about it, I really shouldn't have let that slide.
