We just got back a few weeks ago and tipped based on the recommended 18% to 20%. However, at Yak & Yeti, we had a little issue with their recommendation. At Yak & Yeti, our server brought us a hand written "bill" that was grossly inflated. At all other restaurants, we received a printed bill with the Disny logo, etc. and recommended tip amounts. But at Yak & Yeti, the server wrote it himself. I looked at the total and was shocked that it could cost two adults and three children $150 to eat there especially when the adult entres were around $22 and we didn't have anything extra that wasn't included with the dining plan. So, I started going through this handwritten "bill" line by line. Per the menu, kids meal were $7.49 and included drink and dessert. On the "bill", they wrote 5 drinks for a total of $15. Then, they wrote 5 desserts for something like $35. Then, they listed the kids meals at $7.49 each. The kids only got the kid portions, they did not get adult portions of anything. So, they listed the kids drinks and desserts at adult prices in addition to the price for the kids meal. The total for each kid on their "bill" ended up being almost $20. The kind server said this was a courtesy so we could calculate our tip. The dining credits were charged correctly to our account. But I was shocked that they gave us a handwritten "bill" that was grossly inflated over the menu prices and then expected us to tip 18-20% of that. We just calculated how much it cost using menu prices and tipped based on that amount. This only happened at Yak & Yeti and I'm not sure how they got away with it, but we were more cautious to closely examine the recommended tips after that.
