Tips for Organizing a Value Resort Room

Dh and I are taking DD17 and her friend, so we would like a privacy curtain so the girls can get done in the morning in that area at the same time. Anyway, we were thinking/planning on taking a clothes line and hangin up our Amtrak blankets using clothes pins. Does anyone know if the door hinges on the bathroom doors are on the outside or the inside? I think they are on the outside as the doors open into the bathroom. A tension rod will NOT be traveling with us lol.

In other places, I've read about people using command strip hanger type things to be able to hang something. The command strip hangers are supposed to come off pretty easy and are small and easy to pack. How about that idea?

The hangers that holds several shirts an or pants saves lot of space those you do have to take your own tho.

Doing laundry at least half way thru your stay means half as many clothes to pack the pyrex sheets comes in very handy for that too. Doing laundry more than once helps too.

We hang our worn clothing at least overnight the line over the tub good for that if not full of wet swimsuits. Sure helps cut down on dirty laundry odor.

Bottle of fabreez stuff helps cut down on dirty laundry odor too.

Winter stays is when the room space really gets tight as then we have the winter coats hats an gloves in that case i put them in one of our duffle bags on shelf above closet area till needed.

Love love my shoe bag I've used it 10 yrs now not bad since I got mine at the everything a dollar store.

If we not doing laundry during our stay we take dirty laundry out to the car halfway thru the stay. I still use dh's army laundry bags for laundry on vacations (he got out of the army in 1967) He has 2 of the laundry bags.

At the All Star Resorts you can sometimes slide luggage under the beds but at Pop the beds are on platform an cannot do that.

The over-the-door organizers can be hung on heavy-duty magnetic hooks on the door instead of over the door (the over-the-door hooks usually are not deep enough). These hooks will also work for hanging anything (jackets, swimsuits, purses) on any of the doors (entry, connecting room).

I use the hanging closet organizers -- the kind you put sweaters in -- for shoes.

The bottom of the nightstand often goes to waste -- there's really a lot of space under there. Ditto the "top" of the closet-area.

We use plastic tubs/bins to pack, and even as we get in and out of them they're easy to keep out of the way and/or stacked. And they fit well under the sink.

After unpacking, we take empty suitcases back out to the car. I keep one empty suitcase on the floor between the bed and the wall, and we throw all of our laundry in there. When I want to wash a quick load, I zip it shut and wheel it to the laundry room.

I like to have a toothbrush holder on the counter (easy for the little ones to reach, still keeps it clean and organized).

If it's hot and we're not using the bedspreads, we have Mousekeeping remove them for the length of our stay -- less mess, and I hate it when they end up laying on the floor.

And some little extra things I take to stay organized: nightlight, markers, trash bags, baggies, flashlight, Purex laundry sheets (the all-in-one with detergent and fabric softener included), pre-labeled Mousekeeping envelopes, extension cord, rolls of quarters.

A couple more miscellaneous things:

Outlet protectors/covers (if you have little ones)
Safety pins
Tape

(yeah, I've given this WAY too much thought):hippie:

i think i might have been misunderstood, i mean to use the Amtrak blankets as a privacey curtain, not use the clothes line to hang up bathing suits or clothes.

We almost always stay at a value so I have a few space saving techniques I use every time we go...first is the hanging closest shelves. They work perfectly to store my kids clothes and shoes in...we take 2 and they fit nicely and still gives me room to hang clothes on hangers. The over the door shoe bag is a must for toiletries. I have taken a pop up hamper but it fills up so fast that I now just keep a large empty suitcase handy and pack down the days dirty clothes after we all shower at night. We have a travel refridgerator that has a dual plug. one plugs into the outlet in my van and the other is a regular plug for the room. It is the size of one of the ones you rent so we just put it on the floor nest to the table..We got it at Walmart a few years ago for about $70 and it has saved us alot of $$$ over the years. We pack snacks in a round laundry hamper and put it on top of the ent cntr. We use all the drawers and the shelves for clothing storage...always ask for extra hangers and I put all the other luggage on the top shelf in the closet. And we have a basket that if the catchall for when we empty pockets at night so that we don't waste time searching for anything the next morning. And some people overlook the drawer and shelf on the nightstand. Great storage there for laptops, phones, chargers, books, ipods, toys,etc...I absolutely love packing for our trips and unpacking in the room...I have it down to a science. I am such a NERD!!

I found one of the hanging closest shelves thingys at Walmart and it has mesh pockets on the side (on sale!). I am hoping the mesh pockets will take the place of my shoe organizer I usually hang on the closet rod to put toiletries in.:goodvibes

With all this stuff that people bring with them, ie. laundry baskets, hanging shelves, over-the-door organizers, hampers, what should people do that fly? I understand that most of these items are brought with people who drive, but we aren't driving. I can probably fit a couple hanging shelves and door organizers in my suitcase. Does anyone have some tips that are specific to us flying people? :goodvibes

The past 3 years I have packed a box (or2) and UPS'ed them right to the resort. The front desk holds them for 3 or 4 days and when I check in they get delivered to my room. This way we have lots of 'needed things' and not so much luggage on the plane. You need to have the resort address and the name as it appears on the reservation, as well as the arrival date. The last day of the trip I pack up what we need to send home, guest services come and take it to the front desk where I tell them where to send it. It usually costs less then $20 each way-but I don't have to lug anything in the airport and my 'needed stuff' arrives before I leave home.

We have flown 4 times (stayed a week-12 days each time) and we each take a carry-on suitcase and backpack. I always do laundry mid week while my DH and DD swim. With so much less stuff, storage isn't a problem. When flying we only take 2 or 3 pairs of shoes. No need for a blow dryer there is one in the hotel. Not sure about values, but the mods have towels at the pool, so no need to pack beach towels either. One backpack has shoes, one has shampoo curling iron etc... and one has snacks and misc. :thumbsup2 When I drive I always overpack!!:rotfl2:

I found pop-up hampers at the Acme, I'm sure they sell them at places like Kmart or Walmart too though. Folded, they are smaller than a frisbee, but pop up and they are about 20" square. It was enough for 2 people, with more kids might be good to have 2. Mine fit nicely in the outside pocket of the suitcase.

We fly and the last trip we had 2 carry-on and 1 checked bag. We pack a folding sweater shelf thing, a shoe organizer, a folding stool, and a laundry sack. Along with our clothing for 1/2 the trip and purex laundry sheets. I pack one pair of shoes for each and we wear one pair on the plane. This is for 5 of us. We mostly use the hotel shampoo since one week won't kill my hair. I pack, repack, and repack again, deciding exactly what we need and what we can do without.

Does anyone know if I bring down an over-the-door-pouch with hooks on the top of it, if it will hang in the closet properly? We are staying at All Star Movies. . . thanks!!

I don't believe any of them fit over the bathroom door properly -- ours didn't, but it will hang from the rod in the "closet" area. I am also trying something new this year: I'm taking four heavy-duty hook/magnets to see if they will hold it up on the door that connects to the next room.
