Tinkerbell and Haunted Mansion

You really do go up 13 stories when you are on ToT! The reason it doesn't "feel" the same as a regular elevator is that you go up lots faster than an elevator in a regular building. And you look at actual scenes when you stop- remember that at one stop, your elevator car actually leaves one lift shaft, travels forward through the scene, then enters another lift shaft. Of course, there are special effects in the ride, but the ascending and descending are very real!!! :earseek:

yes, i remember at first there was just one drop, i've only been to wdw twice since tot was there, i don't like heights so it scares me alot still, i just peek out a little little bit when we're at the top.

i believe all of you, but just go with me with this for a minute...it still seems to me that when they go up each floor, you could be only going up a foot or so. they open the doors and you see something on a screen, and then they close again. then when you're at the top and they open the doors, there could be some kind of mirror thing or projected image of what you would see if you were up that high.

when you're outside, do you see the people where the doors are opening?

i know i really just need to drop this, but it's always made me wonder because of the stuff like honey i shrunk the kids where you feel the mice around your feet! disney sure does some incredible stuff!

I think the travel channel runs a show occasionally on imagineers and talks about some of how the designed TOT. You really do go up in an elevator. The also show how the cars move out of the lift for part of the ride. Amazing stuff.

Tink is most definintely a real fairy! And yes, the HM does take you way up before you get onto the Doom Buggies...

ToT...yep! Those doors really open!

I have heard that the person "flying" overhead as tinkerbell is sometimes a guy. Anyone know if that is true?
Yes, there has been "Tinkerboys" in the past and no one noticed. All I can say is, "poor guys!"

The very first Tinkerbell was a retired circus acrobat and was in her mid-late 70's when she started. Either 76 or 78; I forgot exactly, but she was remarkable for her age. There was an article in Disney magazine last year about her. She started at Disneyland in the early 1960's and performed for a number of years.

The stretching room in the Haunted Mansion at WDW does not move. At least the floor and wainscotting don't. If you look really closely, you can see the striped wall paper moving vertically with the portraits as they stretch. It appears that the wall paper works kind of like a roll-up window blind up-side down and unrolls as the walls stretch. If that makes since. The ceiling moves up as the walls stretch.

How cool would it be to be able to say that your grandma was Tinkerbell? I, however, don't know how cool it would be to be able to tell people that your dad was Tink. :earboy2:

The ToT doesn't go up 13 stories, the ghosts in the HM are real cast members in ghost costumes, all the water in Splash Mountain is an illusion (using hi-tech plasma televisions), Space Mountain is actually a motion simulator, Evil Emperor Zurg really is trying to steal all the batteries, and all the animals in the Kilamanjaro Safari are animatronics!

All this and more in my upcoming book:
"The Truth Behind the Lies: A Candid Look at WDW"

Not sure I would admit to my kids that I was one of the male Tinkerbells. But then again, would tinker boy ever have to worry about children...I mean those tights look pretty tight to me! :earseek:

I definitely recall the sensation of wanting to pee in my pants when in TOT they opened the wall and we were staring out level with the huge neon sign just before close.
What a thrill that was, luckily everything stayed dry.
:rotfl2: :goodvibes
