Does anyone have this? It is suppose to replace your cable TV. You pay a 1 time change of about $400 and then you don't have the monthly payments of cable.

We just bought what amounts to the same thing.
It's called "easyviewTV".
We talked the guy down to $250 per box for 3 of them at the fair last week.
We have not hooked them up yet so can't say how well they work but my sister and BIL say its basically like a jail broken Firestick on steroids from what they gather.
You're basically a pirate: but they get around the legality because you're not downloading anything.

If you can legally stream anything, why does Netflix pay all those licensing fees for the content they stream to their customers?

It’s illegal. But the average person breaks all sorts of laws daily. What’s another one?

If you can sleep at night and you are ok with teaching your kids to steal, have at it.

I don't have kids and I didnt know it was illegal until my father told me what the guy said after they were already purchased. Like I said we haven't used them yet. Now you can be on your merry way thanks.

Really - its illegal. The website for this Time Machine thing claims it is legal. I question this thing since there is only 1 distributor on LI for it. If it was that great why isn't it being sold in Best Buy etc.

If it sounds too good to be true......

For all the people who say "it's legal because we don't download anything". If you are watching it you are downloading it. What you are not doing is keeping it locally (i.e. you computer). And when you are "not downloading", you are uploading to everyone else watching what you are watching thus making it illegal.

400$ is an insane amount of money for this thing. I looked it up, its a custom built mini computer basically that runs the same thing a hacked firetv stick would. SO, basically your paying for the hardware, the software is free and anyone can load that on.

One thing to note about firetv sticks and these easytv's is that it WILL stop working eventually. Once the streams that the device's operating system pulls from get taken down then your thing is dead in the water. Could be a month, could be a day, could be 2 years.

Thank you. It just sounded fishy to me. But my co worker is looking into it and I am afraid she is just getting ripped off.

Extremely ripped off. For example, an Amazon FireTV stick is 30$ and takes about 10 minutes to load the Movie/TV program.

If you wanted to take it one step further to see how bad of a deal it is. You could buy a PC or Laptop for 2-300$ that would run the program better than the EasyTV or FireTV and you would have a full computer with it too.

I did some googling on these boxes...hoo boy.

Apparently, they just display streams that are freely available on the internet on your TV. CNN, Fox News, etc. You can pick up a Chromecast or Fire TV Stick at Best Buy for $30 to do that. The rest of the content is no-name video streams - old movies and TV shows, random videos. You're not going to be watching Game of Thrones or major sports leagues, or anything else you're getting from your cable company.

If they are displaying pirated content from major networks, well, enjoy it while it lasts. It's not legal, there aren't any loopholes, and the cable companies and networks are getting that shut down wherever they find it.

The short answer is, there's no legit way to get cable content for free. Whether you pay your cable company or a streaming service like Sling TV, you're going to pay.

OP, here's an article that might help your friend get rid of cable without being ripped off.

The 90s called they want their Napster & LimeWire back, remember when they were "legal" too. If you paid anything for this setup you got taken. Kiss your money goodbye.
