Time for a new car

We decided yesterday it was time to trade in the mini-van and get something new (or new used). We don't need a mini-van any longer and it's at the point of needing repairs so we decided to not bother and get a car instead.
I was thinking of a Hyundia Elantra or maybe a Kia of some type. Another possibility would be a Ford of some type.

So who drives any of these and do you like them? Can't remember the last time we owned a car. LOL

The Elantra is getting incredible reviews so I will be looking at that car next summer when I'm in the market.

My friend has a Hyundai Sonata (not Elantra) but she has very good things to say about the Hyundai company in general and she likes her Sonata thus far...I think she's had it for a couple of years now.

Kia I don't know about...they always look kind of "tinny" and cheap to me though, when I see them on the road. I do not know anyone who owns one though.

Ford...we have 2 Explorers (2004 & 1998) and love them, have had great luck with them. Prior to the Explorers we had Tauruses which we also had very good luck with and loved. My friend had an Escape for years that she loved. Sister-in-law has a Focus that she loves.

I guess we're Ford people.

Just bought a Honda Civic. Reasonably priced, drives nice, great mileage and Hondas have incredible resale value.

Good luck if you buy a used car. Used car prices are nuts now. The blue book on the used car I bought my daughter has gone up $2,000 from when I bought it 3 years ago.

I have a Kia optima and I just love it to death. Really the best car I have ever owned. So roomy and the trunk space is incredible. Besides that I like the warranty it comes with. I think you have to go drive them all though.

I just bought a used Hyundai Sonata and really like it a lot. It is a 2009 and was certified. I usually drive Toyotas but decided this had better reviews, better safety, better price, and better guarantee.

When we were shopping for a car for DS, you could buy a new Honda Civic without the upgrades for the same price as a used Civic with upgrades. Crazy!!!

Just back from poking around. Didn't drive any but checked them out for now. I really like the Hyundai Elantra, the 2010 model better then 2011, and the Kia Forte was a comparable car. Looked at the Ford Fusion, which is also the same class but they didn't have any that wowed me.
So I'll probably go back out this week after I find the one I want with all the features and take that for a spin. I need to now compare all the specs and warranties against each other and see who comes out ahead.

Earlier this month I got rid of my old Ford Explorer and got a Ford Mustang. The Explorer was fine, it had been dependable for many years, I was just tired of a gas guzzling SUV that looked ancient.

Mazda 3 hatch, best fun for the money and great interior!
As long as you can get past that huge smiley face on the front. Although if you are a fan of the movie Cars you might like it. :)

If it's within your price range, you can't go wrong with a Volvo. They're tanks as far as safety is concerned and they last forever. We have three: a 1997 850 sedan (biggest model of that year), a 2001 V40 (small wagon) and a 2002 S60 (sport sedan). They all have well over 100,000 miles on them and they all get mileage in the 22-27 mpg range. We've had no major repairs (transmission, engine, etc.), just what's considered "routine" maintenance. We'll drive them 'til they die - or we do!

DH's best friend just bought a 2010 Elantra and loves it. In fact, he's why we looked into a Hyundai. We could not find a 2010 Elantra anywhere around here to look at and I wasn't going for a new car (I've wasted way too much money on new cars in my life--let someone else take the hit, lol) Anyway, they had a 2009 on the lot but I decided the Sonata was more comparable to my Camry and went with it.

I have a client with some sort of Kia SUV and she loves hers.

Good luck later on when you really look!!

Honda Fit
Honda CRV
Honda Accord
Honda Civic

can't go wrong with any of these.

If you like storage space look at the Elentra Touring or the Kia Forte 5.

Anything American made if buying new. Have fun shopping. :)

LOL. My wife's Mountaineer (the Mercury version of the Explorer) is what we drive when we want to save gas, gets 20-22 mpg on the freeway. But of course, our family car is a Suburban that gets 9 mpg....okay, once, driving 55 and going downhill I did get 12.7 mpg once.

We bought a 2011 Scion XB in January and have been very pleased with it. I've been getting 27 MPG just driving around town.

I was interested in the Elantra Touring but we looked at it at the State Fair and my DH who is 6'4" couldn't sit in it comfortably. Plus we wanted something that sat just a little bit higher off of the ground.
