Time for a new car

I just bought a car this past week it was quite a process. I test drove a lot of Fords, loved the Ford Fusion and loved the Ford Edge. I also test drove some Chevys and some Dodge, ended up buying the Dodge Charger V6, love it!

Anyway just a few tips I learned during my car buying process.
1. Take your trade in to Carmax to get a written offer of what they will pay you in cash. That is your starting point for a trade in price. When you go to dealerships, ask them to appraise your trade in first BEFORE you tell them what car or what price range you are shopping in. If they won't do it, go somewhere else. I got several offers in writing most were good for 7 days. They all wanted to beat my best offer.

2. Get your own financing via CapitalOne auto loans, they send you a blank check, but you most likely wont need to use it. Every dealer then had to beat the 3.9 they offered if they wanted me to finance with them. Don't settle for match, make them beat it. I ended up with a 1.9.

3. Check with your employer to see if you get any discounts! Most of my coworkers don't know about the excellent savings we get on certain makes.

Great tips, thanks so much! I especially love #2. We already have our blank check loan and never thought about using it for a dealer to beat. Thanks so much for that tip.

The car we are replacing is going to be tricky because we are barely at a break even point with the loan we still have on it and unfortunately it's not in that great of shape. Not too terrible, but not the best either.
