Timandlesley's The Sum of Our Thrills TR w/ tons of pics&video 9/27 PTR link pg.58

That American Girl doll store is AMAZING, it makes me want an American Girl and i'm 24!! right near it is World of Disney and FAO Schwartz so you guys should check it out! Take lots of pics, I miss my hometown!!

But uhhh...lets go mets...don't forget to de-sanitize when they come back from the yankees game you never know what kind of diseases they could catch at that dirty filthy place

I've been really enjoying your trip report! Sounds like you are having a great time in MI!! I wanted to tell you that I ordered the Cleo Crocs after asking you about them on your PTR and absolutely LOVE them! I wanted to break them in for our trip to WDW in 2 weeks (:goodvibes), but no 'breaking in' is necessary. I may have to buy another pair in a different color. They'll be great for the parks in the summer!

That's great that you are visiting with Diane and her family. We get busted on a lot, but NJ has a lot to offer, with the Poconos, NYC and the beach not far away. I haven't been to the new Yankee stadium, but my son has been there twice with my sister and brother-in-law, and it is soooooo nice! Tim and Luke will love it! The concourse area looks great with all the huge banners of current and former players. I have been wondering...how did Tim become a Yankee fan (although I know there are so many all over the country!). My son and DH are Yankee fans, but my daughter and I are Mets fans (:sad2: - they are on a horrible run right now). My daughter and I have been to the American Girl Doll store (I think when she was 11 or 12 - she just turned 17) and it is GREAT!. We actually booked the lunch too and it is just so cute.

Looking forward to hearing more about your trip!

Glad you are having a great time in Michigan. A trip to NJ to visit Diane and family sounds like fun. Tim and Luke must be so excited to go see a Yankees game at the new stadium. Can't wait to see pictures of the trip and Lauren's face at the American Girl store.

Wow school starting up already huh? I guess I have lost track of time and just realized it is the end of July already. Looking forward to your update.

Wow...you guys travel a lot...sounds like TONS of FUN!! Michigander here...born and raised and never left...just love it! Where is MI do you guys go...up north I assume. We are heading up in a couple hours for the weekend...can't wait for more updates when you return...safe travels!

Hi Lesley (and fam)!

I want you to know that I've spent the past two days catching up on your TR, and it's been fantastic! I've been reading your TRs for a few years now, and they always bring a huge smile to my face. I love that it's so evident that your family loves God and each other so much. Your kids are so sweet to each other, and it's clear that you all have a fantastic time as a family! It reminds me a lot of my family growing up. I can't tell you how happy I am that (even as adults) my brother and I are SO close, and we love spending time together. Your kids are blessed to grow up in a family that genuinely cares about each other and likes to be around each other. Too many families buy into the notion that you have to be annoyed with your family and hate your siblings. That is NOT true. It's so good to see a family like yours. My husband and I pray that when we have kids, our family is like that.

Thanks again for sharing your trips with all of us! Have a wonderful vacation and a great week with Diane and fam!

Staci

How lucky that you get to do all of that traveling. NJ should be a lot of fun, it is a pretty state.

We are Reds fans, but I wouldn't miss the opportunity to check out the new Yankee stadium.

Sorry for the delay in postings guys. We are on a family vacation in Michigan right now having a BLAST.:cool1::dance3::yay::woohoo: Lots of beach time, ice cream, walks on the boardwalk, trolley rides and quality family time. We will be back for about 5 days before heading to New Jersey to spend a week with Diane and their family. We are thrilled to be heading out there, they stayed with us over New Years this past year and we are ready to enjoy their home town and are super excited for a trip to New York City for the day. Tim and Luke have tickets to a Yankee game at Yankee stadium (dream come true for them) and Lauren is THRILLED I have promised her a trip to the American Girl doll store for her very first (probably only) American Girl Doll. Should be a great time. I will get an update up in between vacations and then when we get back from Jersey I'll unfortunately have school starting back up in a few weeks :scared1: so I'll try to wrap up the report before that.

Oh how fun!!! You will be in my neck in the woods!!! I'm right across the bridge in Philly! :)

Wow, a summer of vacation fun!!!!
Your heading to my home state! yeah!
NYC will be awesome, you should get
to the theatre, so many good shows to
see. Have a great time with diane and
family!!!:goodvibes

Your summer plans sound great. Have fun with the little bit of summer that's left. Can't wait to read more updates but family fun always comes first.

Sounds like you're all having a great summer. You will have so much fun with Diane and her family....a little envious of your trip to NYC....have always wanted to visit there!

Looking forward to your next update!

So funny...Lesley also got me into Crocs(well her and one other person who used to be on the Dis)! It was a few years ago after reading her TR. Now I'm hooked! I really like the Cleo's but I LOVE the Adaras. I get them online sometimes, but mostly at an Outlet Store we have about 10 minutes away from us. I wear mine all the time...to work, out - I have some high heeled ones as well, pretty much everywhere! Gotta thank you, Lesley, for turning me on to them!

Sounds like a great time in Michigan! Enjoy! Your trip to see Diane and family sounds fun, too. DD and I visited the AG store a few years ago and did lunch in their cafe. It was so fun!

Always a lurker...

I was just realizing that it's summer and that means Lesley should have a TR going! Sure enough you do and I just caught up. How much do you think you saved by driving?? I ask b/c when we go next May I will prob need 4 airline tickets (my daughter will almost be 2 by then) which will run me about $900 if you count parking at the airport. We keep going back and forth about driving but not sure how much it will save...we would drive it in two days like you did. Anyway...hope you are having a great vacation :)

Hi, Lesley! Hope you guys had a great trip to Grand Haven! Wanted to let you know that yesterday and today, I read both Tim and your solo TRs - something to do while waiting for another update! :rolleyes1 Just saying! :) They were great! I am trying to get in as many as I can before I have go back to work in a week and a half! Looking forward to more from this one!

Well, thanks for posting, glad you found this one to read. You know, I would say with the gas money, food spent on the road and money for hotels there and back we probably ended up saving about 300 dollars driving vs. flying and having our car down there was nice, but also factor in the money saved on food, alcochol and snacks/drinks that we were able to buy at Walmart and bring into the room too.

Sounds like a great time in Michigan! Enjoy! Your trip to see Diane and family sounds fun, too. DD and I visited the AG store a few years ago and did lunch in their cafe. It was so fun!
We had a great time. We aren't doing lunch but Lauren can't wait to get her doll!

Too funny, those shoes are GREAT!!! We have an outlet near here too but Dicks had Cleo's on sale this past week so I got another pair : )

Thanks, this summer is just whizzing by!
I live in NYC! I wish you were here longer than a day and we could do a DIS meet!! But, only a day - that gets sucked away SO quickly...enjoy every moment! I look forward to the pics. :goodvibes
Yeah, only one NYC day, oh well. Thanks, trying to enjoy each and every moment!
Enjoy the rest of your vacation! And have a great time in NJ with Diane and her family. Tim and Luke are going to have such a great time at the Yankee game. The stadium is amazing!
Thank you, can't wait!

Yes, can't wait! I wish we could afford Broadway tickets, they are just so darn expensive!!!

So, when I left you Tim was getting pampered by Luke and Lauren on Father’s Day. After that we took turns in the shower getting ready for dinner.
Luke took this of Tim and I on our way down to dinner:

The shirt I am wearing was my gift from Diane and Bryan for my birthday : )
The kids ready to head down for dinner:

We were so excited to be eating at Boma again. When I think about how I hesitated forever about eating here because I was afraid of us not liking it I could just kick myself, such yummy yummy food to choose from:

My handsome boys at dinner:

We had a fabulous meal. I was a little sad that my favorite gumbo soup wasn’t there, but everything else was great. The deserts were just out of this world, they had these peanut butter tartlets, key lime tarts, the zebra domes of course, I ate so many of these little things, just amazing. My favorite part of the buffet line is also the salads, so many different flavors to try, I filled my plate twice with them. The meats were good too but the line for it on this night was long so I only visited once.
After our bellies were full we headed up to the lobby, look at the hidden mickey we found on the way up, can you see it?
IMG_7624640x480.jpg

I looked at my watch and saw it was 5 minutes until the African Folktales at the fire pit. I have always wanted to do this and was so excited we were there for it, so we headed outside.

Tim enjoying his coffee that our wonderful waitress at Boma offered to give him to go:
IMG_7628640x480.jpg

Lauren was very excited to hear the story:
IMG_7629640x480.jpg

The CM who told the story was from South Africa (just LOVED her accent) she did a tremendous job telling the story:
IMG_7631640x480.jpg

At one point in the middle of her telling the story a family came out and totally interrupted her and asked her to take a family photo of them, ummmmmmmm HELLO, do you notice anyone outside of yourself. She very politely said “I can after I am done telling this story” and they sounded a little put out and said “o.k., we’ll wait” I swear, sometimes you just have to laugh at people like this …
Can you tell Lauren was into the story:
IMG_7630640x480.jpg

This was such a wonderful/unique experience, I highly recommend you take the time to do it. I guess in my mind I always pictured this being done in the dark, and if you were there in different times of the year it would be, but it didn’t take away from the story, and the story had a good message too : )
After the story we met up with Diane, Bryan Matthew and Eric in the lobby, the kids were goofing around, Tim was quizzing them on random trivia and they really got into that.
IMG_7632640x480.jpg

We decided it would be a great night to for swimming and Luke REALLY wanted to go to the arcade (the arcade card that was given to him earlier in the day was calling his name) and Matthew and Eric wanted to join them. So we headed up to the room to get suits on. On our way to our room we had fun looking at the animals from the windows by the elevator, one of MANY reasons I just love AKL!!!
IMG_7634640x480.jpg

Lauren was ready to hit the pool quickly (I just LOVE how she insisted wearing her goggles on the way DOWN to the pool ) :
IMG_7635640x480.jpg

Luke, Matthew, Eric, Bryan and Tim hit the arcade:
IMG_7636640x480.jpg

Lauren enjoyed some pool time:
IMG_7637640x480.jpg

Diane and I enjoyed some wine in our mugs : ) : ) (don’t judge : )
Then after about 20 minutes they CLEARED the pool, couldn’t believe it!!! I went and told Tim and the boys who were on their way over to swim, they couldn’t believe it. There were rumors of people pooping in the pool, etc. so the boys decided to go up and ask, they told them it was “unscheduled maintenance” YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh, RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! : )
Well, we waited the 30 minutes for the “maintenance” and then they let people go back in. We debated it for a minute, maybe it was the wine talking, but we decided we had waited that long and we let them get in, they had fun swimming together:
IMG_7638640x480.jpg

After about 30 minutes of pool time we decided we needed to head upstairs because the guys had to get up EARLY in the morning for their Segway tour and Diane and I wanted to be at Epcot at rope drop. Lauren exited the pool in style of course:

What a great evening...AK does look like an Amazing resort to stay at...maybe one day!

Can you believe it...lived in MI my entire life and never been to Grand Haven...but heard wonderful things!! Have you guys ever been to Kalahari in Sandusky? That's our FAV after WDW of course ;)

I was so happy to see an update this morning. I have to sit through a training all week (new teacher stuff)and it brightened this Monday morning that had me up earlier than I have been all summer!! :cool1:
