Timandlesley's The Sum of Our Thrills TR w/ tons of pics&video 9/27 PTR link pg.58

Totally gross pool moment. Blech!

Glad you liked Boma....it's one of our favorite buffets. If you haven't tried Tusker House at AK for lunch or dinner, you'd probably like it too since you enjoyed Boma. It is similar.

We hesitated a long time too on going to Boma and I wonder now that we've been there, WHAT were we thinking?! I can't tell you the number of times we had reservations and cancelled them because we just weren't sure. We've done this with Biergarten, as well, and hopefully soon we'll stop cancelling because I THINK I'd like to try it!

You have convinced me to give Boma a try on our next trip. I like you have always heard great reviews of this place but was leary of the menu. Lauren is too cute in her goggles pic and the one with the towel on her head.

Great gift from Diane and family... cute shirt ! I like your new Avatar pic of you and Tim. I am sure I have said it before I think it is so neat how you and Diane met on the DIS boards and how close your families have become.

Finally all caught up. That is funny about pooping in the pool that happenend to us last year at AKL it must be an AKL thing LOL

I haven't been brave enough to try Boma yet, but with all these good reviews I may have to give in! The storytelling around the firepit sounds really neat; what a great evening activity! Glad the "code brown" didn't ruin the kids' swim fun! :rotfl2:

Does anyone have a link to Diane's current TR? I really loves the girls only trip...thanks!

Not sure if someone already gave it to you, but here you go!

Diane's Trip Report

Glad the "code brown" didn't ruin the kids' swim fun! :rotfl2:

Raise the brown flag !!!!! We got a floater !!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

So sorry swimming time is so hard for the kids to get this trip.

Love the t-shirt! Great B-day gift!

Too funny about the family wanting their photo taken.:rotfl:

Hmmm....unscheduled "maintenance"??? Unfortunately we encountered that at SAB too.

first I had to comment on this:
great update, my favourite is the lentil sausage soup at Boma, so yummy!! I love how they do the desserts small so you can have more than one or ten:rotfl2:

"...or ten" :lmao:

Okay so I just read 7 or 8 pages, so I'm trying to remember what all I had in mind to say.

Your tribute was so great! Happy Anniversary!! My favorite part was what you wrote about Unselfishness. So sincere, and it was really nice to read that and have a great reminder of what a wife should be. And what a sweet surprise getting the Segway tour for Tim for FD!

And the kids, they were too sweet for Father's day!! Did you get some massages on Mother's day this year too?

Lauren looks too cute in braids. (Don't feel bad, I've had friends try to teach me how to french braid and I just haven't ever grasped it!)

That DHS day did look fantasticly fun!! I love the way y'all passed the time in line. And what a fun Disney-loving person to meet in the line. I love talking to people in the queues. Some people shy away from talking, but usually it's because either 1. They can't speak english, or 2. It's their first Disney trip so they don't know it's "okay" to talk to anyone here b/c it's the most magical place on earth!

Love the t-shirt! Great B-day gift!

Too funny about the family wanting their photo taken.:rotfl:

Hmmm....unscheduled "maintenance"??? Unfortunately we encountered that at SAB too.

this is what I forgot. The shirt from Diane and Bryan is sooo cute! :thumbsup2

and that family, sheesh!!!!

Mmmmm, Boma is such a yummy place to eat! They do have some exotic flavors there but there is also plenty for the tamer eaters!

I think we had some pool poopings at the Beach Club a few trips ago, they kept clearing the pool and not a cloud in the sky....

Lauren looked so cute with that glam towel on her head!:cutie:

What a great evening...AK does look like an Amazing resort to stay at...maybe one day!

Can you believe it...lived in MI my entire life and never been to Grand Haven...but heard wonderful things!! Have you guys ever been to Kalahari in Sandusky? That's our FAV after WDW of course
AK really is amazing, you would love it. Grand Haven is amazing, so funny you lived there your whole life and haven't been, again, maybe someday : ) Never been to Kalahari, I'll have to google it.

I was so happy to see an update this morning. I have to sit through a training all week (new teacher stuff)and it brightened this Monday morning that had me up earlier than I have been all summer!!
Well, another update coming up this morning for ya : ) I have training starting August 10th, BLEH!

Ah, some of my favorite things at AKL -- dinner at Boma (love those zebra domes), folktales at the firepit (those rocking chairs are sooo comfortable), and swimming (what a shame they cleared the pool!).

Lauren is such a cutie with her goggles on in the elevator.
Just love AKL. Glad you liked the Lauren pic : )

1. I LOVE how you and Diane are updating together... it's so neat to read about your days from each family's perspective
2. I LOVE your new avatar!! Adorable!!

Okay... on with the reply...

Nice pic, Diane and Bryan. That is a great shirt!! And you and Tim are just precious!!

Seriously?! People are so unaware, aren't they?

That is so funny! What else could "Unscheduled maintenance" mean.. really?

What a GREAT day. So excited to hear about the Segway tour. Did Tim or Bryan bring a camera with them?

Have fun in NJ!!! Say hi to Snookie!
Glad you noticed the new avatar. Yes, people can be so unaware. Tim had his iphone with him and snapped a few, update coming up this a.m.

i love boma too and feel the same way! when erica and i went on our girls' trip back in september 2008 we decided that we would choose ADRs that we knew our husbands wouldn't want to go to. one of my choices was boma and it was SO good! i told ray we are definitely going here next trip and he keeps telling me no, but we're going to, darn it!!! my favs are the chicken pepperpot soup, the upsidedown pineapple cheesecake and of course the zebra domes!

you have to wonder how people get by in life without getting smacked in the face daily.

the story sounds really cool!

kids and their goggles always crack me up! so cute!
Hey Dawn, loved your comment about being smacked in the face daily, definitely what we felt like doing to that family. Yes, drag him to Boma, that's what I had to do with Tim and well obviously he liked it last year if it was his Father's day meal this year : )

Another great update!

I just love Boma - we were lucky enough one trip to be the "Family of the Day" and the staff was so sweet! The food is also awesome!!

Glad you got to hear the story...but why are some people so clueless?!? Take a picture of us?!? Hmmm...

I'm glad the kids finally got to swim!

have a great week!!
Happy you enjoyed the update. Family of the day, so cool!

What a great night despite having to clear the pool for some "maintenance." Bome is yummy including the Zebra Domes. Lauren looks so into the story telling in the picture you posted...if thats not a face of concentration I don't know what is. I also love how she wore her goggles down to the pool and posed with the towel on her head after. Luke looks like he had fun in the arcade. Looking forward to reading about the day in Epcot and Tim's review of the Segway tour!
Yes, clearing the pool was crazy. Her in the towel cracked me up, that review/update is coming up this morning, enjoy!

Cute shirt! My absolute favorite things at Boma are the sun dried tomato hummus and the pineapple upside down cheesecake. YUM!!! EEEEWWWW for the "unscheduled maintenance!" The next time my hubby and I stay at AKL (he never wants to stay anywhere else), we'll have to go to one of the African Storytelling times!
I'm not a hummus fan but Tim loved it. I gotta try that pineapple upside down cheesecake next time, you and several others mentioned it.

This was not your lucky week as far as swimming goes.

Can't wait to hear about the Segway tour.
I know, but we managed to get some swimming in, next update coming right up!
What a great update!

I am also a teacher and during the summer, we are usually non-stop GO but this year, we have a 1 year old! She has slowed us in lots of ways but it always seems non-stop, even here at home! Trips and outings are just not quite as carefree as before!!

Love goggles, Lauren!

Does anyone have a link to Diane's current TR? I really loves the girls only trip...thanks!
Well a 1 year old will definitely slow you down. Someone put a link up for her TR on the next page, if you need me to post it again I'll certainly find it for you.
Another pool set back? Your poor kids! Glad you took time to enjoy the resort! There really is so much to do at AKL/AKV.
Just love AKL
great update! Your shirt from Dianne and Bryan is really cute. My son does the same thing with the goggles on the way to and from the pool, he insists it helps! I love Boma, we eat there every trip! Looking forward to another update!

Melissa
It was a nice shirt, very sweet of them. Boma is sooooo good!
Great update!
Folktales at the fire pit sounds like fun. AKL is such a unique resort.
I have to book a few nights there next summer.
It is so unique, that's what I love about it.

Love the update. So excited for the restaurant review. We are staying at AKL and had the same reservations (food the family might not like). Maybe we will give it a try!
You will love it if you try it!
great update, my favourite is the lentil sausage soup at Boma, so yummy!! I love how they do the desserts small so you can have more than one or ten
They did have that, I had some of it that night. O.K, o.k., maybe I did have close to ten deserts : )

I just wanted you to know that I'm still here, following along with your adventures I'm really enjoying your descriptions/photos of AKL. Maybe I could convince my DH to stay "out there", lol!
Thanks for following along, hope you can convince him, it's a great resort

Hi Lesley ~

I'm really enjoying your trip report. You have such a cute & loving family!

We live just north of Indianapolis and we'll be driving down to WDW too in a few months. We also plan on staying somewhere in Valdosta, GA.

Well, gotta go take care of some "unscheduled maintenance". :rotfl: Oh, that is so gross!

Debbie
Hi Debbie, so glad you are enjoying it. Valdosta worked out great for us as a stopping point, have a great trip!

Just another fun evening, for sure! The firepit stories are neat! We stopped in the middle of one this past February. It was definitely dark and that fire was needed!!! But what a nice laid back evening, including wine in mugs -- gotta love those mugs!!!! The AK arcade and swimming, what kid wouldn't be happy with those choices!!! Have a fun time in NY and NJ!!! Are you going to go to Cape May?
The dark story would be fun. I don't know if we are or not, Diane has it all planned out, can't wait!
Boma....one of our top 3 restaurants

Love your top! Great picture of you and Tim..

What is up with those people interrupting...just when you think you've seen it all, along comes another idiot:lmao: Love the shot of Lauren with her googles on the way to the pool....you really have the cutest kids!
Boma is just great, have you tried Jiko, now THAT's my FAVORITE!

Trent has the same shirt Luke had on that day. He just wore it this past weekend.

AKL is such a pretty resort. Love their breakfast at Boma, too.

Funny about unscheduled maintenance AKA Poop
Too funny about the shirt. Glad you enjoyed the update.
Zebra Domessssssssssssssssss! YUMMY! I think I could make a meal out of those and the hummus!

:headache: on the "unscheduled maintenance"! Your poor kiddos are not having the best of pool luck on this trip! I'm glad they have gotten some in though!

Lauren looks so stinkin' cute in her goggles and her towel turban!
Yes, they certainly have some yummy food. Glad you enjoyed the Lauren pics, they always are so funny.

I love Cape May! I've been there every year for almost 40 years! Staying in Jersey will give you lots of places to visit!
Have never been, can't wait to get out there for the first time.

Mmmmm, Boma is such a yummy place to eat! They do have some exotic flavors there but there is also plenty for the tamer eaters!

I think we had some pool poopings at the Beach Club a few trips ago, they kept clearing the pool and not a cloud in the sky....

I agree, just love it there. Glad you enjoyed the Lauren pics : )

this is what I forgot. The shirt from Diane and Bryan is sooo cute! :thumbsup2

and that family, sheesh!!!!
Thanks, it was so nice of them to get it for me. I know, about that family, RIGHT!?!?

Happy you enjoyed the Anniversary tribute. No, I didn't get rubs this year but I got breakfast in bed made by the kids, I'll take that : ) It was a great day at DHS, glad you enjoyed the updates. I was so proud of myself this week I started braiding her hair after practice, still no french braids but the reg. ones, she was so proud of me, it was so cute!

Love the t-shirt! Great B-day gift!

Too funny about the family wanting their photo taken.:rotfl:

Diane's Trip Report
Gotta try it, soooo good. Thanks for the TR link.

Finally all caught up. That is funny about pooping in the pool that happenend to us last year at AKL it must be an AKL thing LOL
Happy to see you are caught up, another update coming at ya this morning.

Thanks! Welcome!

We've done this with Biergarten, as well, and hopefully soon we'll stop cancelling because I THINK I'd like to try it!
I know, they have the greatest food, so glad you enjoy it as well.

Totally gross pool moment. Blech!

Glad you liked Boma....it's one of our favorite buffets. If you haven't tried Tusker House at AK for lunch or dinner, you'd probably like it too since you enjoyed Boma. It is similar.
It was a gross pool moment! We've done Tusker house for lunch, it is a pretty good lunch.

Disney Day 6
Tim and Bryan’s segway tour was scheduled for 8:30 and they needed to be there by 8:00 so Tim was up bright and early and met Bryan in the lobby and they drove to Epcot (I’ll post a mini segway TR here in a bit).
Diane and I decided to be at Epcot at rope drop as well so the kids and I also got up early, had breakfast in the room and headed downstairs:
103_7160800x600.jpg

103_7161800x600.jpg

We beat them downstairs by a bit, so Lauren enjoyed some cartoons in the lobby:
103_7163800x600.jpg

Bryan and Tim had taken our car, so we piled into Diane and Bryan’s minivan:
103_7164800x600.jpg

It was nice not waiting on a bus and getting to the park quickly:
103_7165800x600.jpg

We got there for rope drop but It was CROWDED. I was picked as our fast pass runner for the day and the mission was Soarin’, so I headed that way:
103_7168800x600.jpg

See what I mean about the crowds!?!
I tried my best with the sea of people heading into the Land Pavilion:
103_7169800x600.jpg

I swear, I have never been pushed up against more sweaty stinky people in my life, it was really gross. I finally got down there and secured our fast passes:
103_7170800x600.jpg

I called Diane and she told me they were in front o fTest Track waiting on me, so I met up with them there:
103_7171800x600.jpg

The boys rode together in the front of our car:
103_7175800x600.jpg

103_7177800x600.jpg

We enjoyed a great ride as always!! After the ride the kids had fun in the showroom:
103_7181800x600.jpg

I think Luke was in L-O-V-E!!!!!
103_7182800x600.jpg

Throughout this whole time I kept getting texts from Tim. He was sending me pictures of an empty world showcase, saying how much fun he was having and he sent me one (that I’ll put in his review at the end of this update) of him on his segway with an empty world showcase behind him, HOW COOL! I was so happy knowing he was having a good time and enjoying his gift.
We decided to go for Mission Space next:
103_7183800x600.jpg

We were ready for our mission (green side of course):
103_7186800x600.jpg

Then the debate of who was going to ride with who began. It got a little hairy because Lauren wanted to ride with the boys, but then Eric was going to be stuck riding with Diane and he didn’t look happy and Lauren idolizes Diane so I volunteered to ride with the boys and Lauren went with Diane:
103_7187800x600.jpg

The boys preparing for take off:
103_7189800x600.jpg

After our ride Diane and Eric headed somewhere (I think the gift shop) and Matthew and Luke played in the game area at the exit:
103_7190800x600.jpg

Lauren enjoyed the indoor play area they have:
103_7192800x600.jpg

I spotted a machine where you can make DOG TAGS and they had MICKEY HEADS!!!!! Well, I HAD to buy one for our golden retriever Mickey, they are only 10.00!!!! Here is the front:
103_7195800x600.jpg

The back is silver with the info (blurred to protect our phone # etc.):
103_7196800x600.jpg

After that fun we headed outside and the kids spotted the Coke cooling zone and had fun there:
103_7198800x600.jpg

CONTINUED IN NEXT POST

I got a call from Tim that their tour was over, so we met up with the guys, do they look happy or what!?!:
103_7199800x600.jpg

I figure this is a great place to do a mini- segway tour review from Tim, here ya go:
“When Bryan and I got to Epcot, we got the first parking space, we went and checked in and they gave us our name tags and said we had about a half an hour. It was so cool seeing the park empty, we got to walk around everywhere, here are some pics I texted to Lesley:
027.jpg

026.jpg

TimsSegway1withempty.jpg

025.jpg

Does it get any better than that?? It was only Bryan, myself and a sixteen year old boy on the tour which is unheard of. We waited and a guy pulled up on a Segway named Lamont, you have to picture he was like having Mr.T talking to you, so anytime I mention Lamont you have to picture Mr. T talking to you : ) He said “You guys are with me” and he took off and we were chasing him on his Segway. We got into Innovations into the Segway area and he took us into a room and said “get a helmet, try it on, I’m going in the back room, watch this instructional video” it was hilarious. After we got fitted for helmets we went into the training area and got on the Segway’s and after we got our “sealegs” they had us do different maneuvers to get used to it. Lamont was like the enforcer. There was a nice guy who was going to take us out who was a VIP tour guide, we had him and Lamont, Lamont was like the enforcer who if you did anything wrong he would call you out. For instance the 16 year old boy forgot how to step off of his Segway and Lamont said “what’s wrong with you, it’s only 7 inches off the ground”, Bryan and I laughed often at Lamont. Finally we got out and were following the tour guide and they took us all through the World Showcase, weaving through all of the countries, it was really cool. We got into lots of nooks and crannies, it was so fun cruising around World Showcase with anything around. The tour guide showed us several hidden Mickey’s I had never seen before and gave us history in each country and where in some of the countries they actually had rides planned and they were taken out or not followed through with. We followed the main tour guide and Lamont would follow behind like the enforcer waiting for anyone to mess up. After we got through Italy they set up a cone area where we could drive around and play around for a bit and since there were only 3 of us we were way ahead of schedule, so we had time to take some pictures, here are the ones I sent to Lesley via text:
029.jpg

timssegwaypointing.jpg

Overall I just loved the tour and Lamont was such a character that we joked about it for the rest of the trip. We kept telling the kids “if you mess up we’re going to send Lamont after you”
I recommend any of you trying it, it was lots of fun and a once in a lifetime experience.”

O.K., so that was Tim’s review, back to our regularly scheduled TR:

So after we met up with the guys we picked up some Fast Passes for the kids to do a Kim Possible Mission later .
The kids were hungry so we wanted to use some snack credits. We went to the nearest stand and their machines were down and they weren’t taking Disney dining credits, BUMMER! I can’t describe to you how HOT it was on this day. So I asked if it was just their cart or all carts, they told me just theirs and pointed us in the direction of the closest one, so we headed over there. There was a young man who was from China running this stand, HONESTLY DISNEY, why do you put this poor guy out there, He could NOT understand what we were saying, the line was going SO slow, soooooooooo HOT and we were in the sun, We literally waited about 20 minutes for ice cream. His register tape was out and he had the worst time changing it. Then he stopped serving people and told them “one second” and we were wondering what the heck he was doing, I said to Diane “what is he DOING?” She looked over and said “he’s packing pickles” WHAT!?!?! No, seriously, he was taking the pickles out of the box, we couldn’t believe it. At one point Diane saw his fan (which wasn’t on) and could have cooled us off while we waited in line. She said “can you turn your fan on?” He answered her in a way that obviously showed he had no clue what she was saying, she tried a few more times and then just gave up.
FORTY HOURS LATER………………………………………………..
103_7200800x600.jpg

We were laughing at how Eric and Lauren’s mouths looked after they were done:
103_7203800x600.jpg

It was time to head back to the Land to use our Soarin’ Fast Passes:
103_7204800x600.jpg

As we walked down towards Soarin’ I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!! Look what I found!?!:
103_7205800x600.jpg

For those of you who didn’t read my Girls Only Trip Report with Diane from April, I had wanted one of these Mickey Gnomes from Flower and Garden Festival so bad but they ran out of them at our hotel and I had to leave (long story, you have to read the report) and I was so upset, so I was THRILLED that he was waiting for me, he looks GREAT in my garden right now! : )
Diane and I decided it was the guys turn to ride a ride and we were happy just to relax for a bit:
103_7207800x600.jpg

When they got off the ride it was lunch time, so we got yummy lunch from Season’s (just love the options there).
103_7214800x600.jpg

Do you see that desert on the upper right, I got it based upon Diane’s statement about what she had read on the Dis about the Butterfinger cheesecake, OMG it was SOOOOOOO good, you gotta get it next time you go!
Tim had fun showing off his Segway pin (that you only get from being on the tour):
103_7216800x600.jpg

After lunch we headed to the World Showcase so the kids could use their Kim Possible Fast Passes. I looked at the times guide and was so excited to see the French Acrobats show was starting in 2 minutes so we literally high-tailed it over there (in the heat, that was exhausting):
Luke was picked to sit in the chair for the show:
103_7217800x600.jpg

I was so happy to be sharing this experience with my family (Diane and I saw it for the first time in April and ever since I wanted to show Tim and the kids). The show did not disappoint:
103_7218800x600.jpg

103_7220800x600.jpg

103_7221800x600.jpg

103_7222800x600.jpg

Everyone really enjoyed the show. Then it was time for our Kim Possible Mission which was in China so we headed that way.
On our way it was fun because Tim kept telling us things about World Showcase they had learned on the tour. One was in Morocco, he showed us this piece on the fountain that was imperfect:
103_7223800x600.jpg

They did it that way on purpose because as a part of their religion they are showing that nobody is perfect, the only perfect being is their God.
Morocco is the only country fully sponsored by that country and they are all employees of the King of Morocco and they are paid by him and they have a place to pray and worship in the back.
It was cool because through his explanations of things I could tell how much he truly loved the tour, it was great!
Finally we made it to China and the kids got their phones:
103_7226800x600.jpg

We wised up this year and got each child their own phone. I went with Luke:
103_7229800x600.jpg

Tim went with Lauren:
103_7230800x600.jpg

Isn’t this pavilion just gorgeous:
103_7231800x600.jpg

Luke couldn’t have been happier about being on another mission :
103_7232800x600.jpg

I couldn’t have been happier to be in the World Showcase (my favorite place in Disney World):
103_7233800x600.jpg

Here are some pics from Lukes mission:
103_7234800x600.jpg

103_7235800x600.jpg

At one point we met up with Lauren on our mission:
103_7236800x600.jpg

Doesn’t Luke just look so confident in this picture:
103_7239800x600.jpg

Lauren found the jade monkey:
103_7240800x600.jpg

We had a great time on these missions as always. If you haven’t tried them, you should, they are GREAT fun!
Luke remembered when I was on my trip in April I had talked about the shirts that have the Chinese Zodiac so he wanted to check out his shirt and possibly buy one. Luke is the year of the Snake:
103_7243800x600.jpg

I think the description fits him PERFECTLY:
103_7247800x600.jpg

So did he, so he used his souvie money to buy one. After our purchases we decided to head to Test Track and use our Fast Passes (we got them earlier in the day):
Lauren was excited about her second ride for the day on Test Track:
103_7250800x600.jpg

I don’t know what it is about this cue, but it seems like someone always poops their pants in the line, we weren’t disappointed………… they did it again:
103_7249800x600.jpg

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Tim and Bryan rode with the kids:
103_7252800x600.jpg

Diane and I enjoyed our own car:

We had a great ride and we decided after that to pack it in and head back to AKL. I can’t put into words how hot it was on this day and how hot the walk to the car was, but MAYBE this picture can do it a TEENIE bit of justice:

Morning Lesley! I just happen to be here when your light is on. I think I smell an update VERY soon!! :woohoo:

You'll have to post pics of Lauren's regular braids when you get a chance. And be sure to let me know when you figure out the french braiding tricks...I need to know them too! :goodvibes

*edited: After I hit post, your update was there already, yay!

wow, a great long update!!

Tim's tour looked/sounded like a lot of fun! I think I will have to try it one day.

How strange was the pickle guy?? Sometimes you just have those interestingly UNMAGICAL moments in Disney. I wonder if he was having an 'off' day? I can't imagine Disney wouldn't hear some complaints about this guy if he seriously was always that slow.

YES! Luke bought the shirt! :thumbsup2

I hope Lauren gets hers at some point too....

Thank you for the suggestion on the butterfinger cheesecake, and for that wonderful tidbit about the imperfect piece in the fountain. And I don't know where I had heard, but I already knew about Morocco being the only pavillion fully funded by its country. That's so awesome!

Congrats on getting your garden gnome Lesley!!

Another fun day at Epcot! Isn't driving just lovely? We were really spoiled this year driving everywhere -- so much better than waiting on the buses.

Glad Tim and Bryan enjoyed their Segway tour -- love the tidbits Tim learning especially about Morocco.

Good idea getting the kids their own phones for the mission. Chelsea wanted nothing to do with it this year. :(
