I wonder many things have been created that persisted that successfully for 30 +years? Given how changing people's attitudes are over time, I find it quite impressive how loved it still is.
It's a "closed system."
It runs at the whim and pleasure of the Disney company.
If they want to run it to empty houses (and they DID run it to empty houses at WDW for years) they can.
At
Disneyland, the (shortened) original version runs to busy houses of fans.
But, that park's guests are overwhelmingly local, repeat-customers.
They grew up with that show.
It has a history that fits their own lives.
Likewise, many on these boards have close connection to classic Disney attractions.
But at WDW itself, the guest population is overwhelmingly first-timers.
They have no "connection" with a room full of wiggling birds singing songs from the 1960's and earlier.
The original Tiki show at MK played to near-empty theaters and,
sadly, many of those guests who
DID unknowingly stumble into a show,
got bored waiting for something (anything) to actually HAPPEN,
and simply stood up and noisily stumbled over others to get
out of the exit doors, mid-show.
It was a very sad situation for those of us who DID like watching the show
(for the umpteenth time, very likely.)
Now that the (nearly) original show is said to be returning,
(although, I have not heard info of the CM's actually WORKING on the theater yet, myself)
I hope that the two-three dozen of us who post here about liking this little show will be enough to keep it open for the next several years.
I'll go to see it, but I can't go every day.
(Who want's the first shift?)
