Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Your shirts look great lindsayjs. I did mine and I think they are soooo ugly. I am going to redo them. Though after rereading this post I figured out what I did wrong. First off I made my mickey heads way to BIG and 2nd I didnt put the dye on there right :rotfl: I will redo them this Tuesday. I am going to take them to work with me tom night since I have someone I am semi training for a new lab, though he has been with us for almost a year and doing studies longer than that. :lmao: Just have to basic show him around. But he is doing all the work, so I have to have something to do. I plan on cutting out the rest of my iron ons too, so that I can get them done on tues night.
I know not to use the royal blue again either.
Did you rinse them in the washer or in the sink?
Where did you find the soda ash? Lindsayjs did you use the soda ash?

Thanks everyone :goodvibes
I printed out the mickey head template that's in this thread somewhere and used a washable marker to trace it onto the shirt. I got soda ash from Dharma Trading it came in the 'serious tie dye' kit I bought. I did a tester round with one shirt that bled a lot but for these I pulled the dental floss extra tight wrapped it around a few times then put 2 rubber bands on as tight as I could. I was probably a lil overkill but oh well :D Good Luck on your next go round!!

My husband says he'll wear the Mickey shirt if I also tie-dye a pair of tights. Is it possible to do the spiral pattern on tights?

I have to ask.... did he want the tights for himself? Got Pics? :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

These pics are great! I really love the ones w/ blue or purple, and the skull idea is great!
I'm going to have to do this! I did buy dye and Tshirt before my last trip, but a visiting nephew got his shirt dirty and, well, there's not many tops belonging to a 40+ woman that a 19yo fella would wear, so, there went the white one.
Glad for the OP and glad for all the comments!

I was going through clothes, switching from winter to summer, and found our T's My kids have out grown theirs. Guess its time to make new ones and if I'm going to make new shirts I think I should plan a trip to go along with those shirts! LOL

Here are our shirts

Love all the shirts that have been posted! At some point in this thread, I remember reading that someone wanted to make shirts for their cruise - well, those turquoise/blue ones look like they'd be perfect for that! It's seems like everytime someone posts a shirt, I think "ooooooooooooh, that'd be cute to do!" I'll have to see if my girlfriend will send me a pic of hers to post. (She sent it to me via cell phone) She used the Tulip Camo colors and it looks like the Mickey head was left white and then she used iron on letters for the kids names and fabric paint to write the year in the ears.

Here are my latest..... using tulip dye block. :goodvibes

Very cool! I'm not familar with the dye block, can you explain? Also, love the full body Mickey!

It's very unique - turned out great! Thanks so much for sharing your directions.

I REALLY want to try that dye resist stuff!!!

Here's a pic of one of the shirts my girlfriend did for their upcoming trip. Tulip Camo Tie Dye kit, Iron on Letters, Fabric Paint for the year. Fabric paint to outline Mickey head. I think it came out fabulous!

Those are too cute!:goodvibes

More super cute tie dye shirts! I have not seen that dye resist around here. I'll have to really look for it next time. Looks like it could be fun. LOL

We did another batch for our big family trip with my IL's this fall. They came out GREAT! If this wasn't so time consuming and tedious, I would make more of these! ;)

Kat, can you get the dye resist at Michales or ACMoore? Or did you have to order it? This will be just what I need for our cruise tees for this fall.

Those came out great!! Is that a little skirt in the middle? What kits did you use? I like that sort of orangey rust color with the blue.

I did read this entire thread prior to our trip in January. However, I don't remember if anyone did a shirt that wasn't white to begin with. My 7 year old has to wear a yellow or tan shirt for his little part in the musical so I'm thinking I could tie dye that in the summer when I make my next attempt at this. (Not for a trip, just for fun and to try some of the stuff I've seen on here!) Anyone have thoughts on that? I plan on getting the camo colors kit for my oldest 2 boys anyway and think that would probably work well with a tan shirt.

Thanks! :goodvibes

We used Dharma Trading Company dyes and followed their directions pretty close. I'm convinced that they come out so well b/c we use soda ash and urea.

The orangy color is actually Oxblood red, it does have a slight tinge of orange in it, but the pic makes it look more so.

Yes, my daughter wanted the whole OUTFIT for her bday at MK, so we did a skirt to match...do you see the little mini purple mickey head on it???? :lovestruc

The skirt is totally cute and I'm assuming it matches the purple head Mickey shirt directly above it! Did you buy the skirt locally or order it from one of the t-shirt places online? Guess I'll go look on Dharma at their dye colors...I can see this is going to become an expensive little project for me with everyone posting such awesome stuff, LOL!!
