Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

Kat, can you get the dye resist at Michales or ACMoore? Or did you have to order it? This will be just what I need for our cruise tees for this fall.

I actually got it at Walmart but Michaels does carry it.:goodvibes

Thanks! :goodvibes

We used Dharma Trading Company dyes and followed their directions pretty close. I'm convinced that they come out so well b/c we use soda ash and urea.

The orangy color is actually Oxblood red, it does have a slight tinge of orange in it, but the pic makes it look more so.

Yes, my daughter wanted the whole OUTFIT for her bday at MK, so we did a skirt to match...do you see the little mini purple mickey head on it???? :lovestruc

Do you know what other colors of Dharma Dyes you used? I'd love to know! :goodvibes

We had SO many b/c this was our 3rd time and have ordered a couple times. The girl shirts for sure had: robins egg blue, turquoise blue, bubblegum pink, & hot pink. We also had Fuchsia red (which is really pink). We used Bright green, dark purple, oxblood red, orange (sorry, forgot which one and I don't have the dyes, my friend does) and brilliant blue. I think that's the majority of them. HTH a little!

Thanks - that helps alot! I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know!

I love these shirts but I am total not crafty at all :lmao: I was wondering if any one that is making one would not mind making one for I would love a tank top and tee shirt I would happy pay you to do it, I am going at the end of june.

Thank you tina princess:

We tried making some shirts this weekend. One of the Mickey's turned out great, but the others are missing part of an ear! They look like Mickey ice cream bars with a bite out of them.
Any thoughts on why? We maybe put the rubber bands too close/too far away from the dental floss?????

Did you make sure the ears were pushed up all the way before tightening the floss? That's the only thing I can think of, or you didn't put enough or tight enough rubber bands around the head? I was always so nervous undoing the mickey heads for fear that the same thing would happen...I think we just got lucky!

Thanks, I will have to make sure the next time. LOL, my older dd's say they will wear theirs as pj's. I was thinking of trying to fill in the missing ear parts!

If you want to still use the shirts, you could either use fabric paint to make a Mickey head or try using a transfer over it. Oh, or back in the beginning pages, someone mentions using a clorox bleach pen to outline the Mickey head. I guess it all depends on how much color/white is in that area.

After you sew your mickey head, you pull the loose end to pucker the head. What do you do next? Do you tie the thread so that the pucker stays tight? Do you only try to get dye onto the inside of the pucker? I can't wait to try these.

Thanks for any tips.

Carey

I squirted some of the gel from the bleach pen onto a paper plate and then used a small paintbrush to help "shape up" my youngest DD's Mickey. It worked fine. She wore the shirt to school yesterday and everyone loved it.

Thanks for the instruction. Here are mine. I finished them yesterday.

Question... We are going to be doing MNSSHP for the first time this year, and I had read somewhere that someone wore a Mickey tie dye t-shirt, bandana, and called themself a 'hippie' for Halloween. I am going to be 7 months pregnant, so as little effort as possible would be great for me! I was wondering though... I have seen an image of a Mickey Head, but with lines going down it to make it appear as a Mickey Pumpkin Head (I hope someone knows what I'm talking about...). Is there any way to incorporate those lines into this tie dye t-shirt? I was hoping to make them a little Halloween-y... Thanks for any help anyone can suggest!!

I'm a lurker on this thread, and haven't gotten around to trying the shirts yet (no trips planned for the near future :sad1:) but I was wondering if the easiest way to do the 'pumpkin lines' would be to draw them on with a bleach pen after you did the tie-dying, the way some people use them to clean up the edges of their Mickey heads.
