Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt

The fuchsia red is well fuchsia, its a pink shade. I used another shade, I think it was fire red.

Thanks, I just changed my order to get fire red instead of fushia. Stupid question alert: I can mix the fire red with yellow and get orange still right? My common sense says "yes" but the lady asked me if I was going to be mixing and I said "no" (forgetting I didn't order orange) so I got to thinking maybe she was going to tell me that I could only mix the primary colors....I know...I'm artistically challenged!

You're Welcome...

Gosh Pixie, you have this down to an art! How did you do the neat pattern on the second picture above (orange/purple/blue mikey). It looks so cool! :woohoo:

General questions for someone who can help me:

1. I have my shirts but not my dye/supplies yet. for the prewash do you have to use the specialized wash from Dharma (yes, I have some on order) or can you just do regular wash for the first one? I'm so excited I don't want to wait for my order to come in! If I can use regular soap I can start basting my heads over the weekend after washing.

2. You add the dye while the shirt is still wet from the soda ash, right?

3. When completely rinsed you wash the shirts with the specialized wash and then they should be colorfast and safe to wash with anything else? I'm so afraid they are gonna bleed all over my other clothes! I will probably just wash them separately every time but will the dye get stuck on my washing machine and transfer color to my next load? I've had that happen with some shirts I've bought before that were apparently not rinsed will.:sad2:

--Wash them separate from other clothes the first few washes, after that they should be fine to wash with similar colors. Always use cold water and low heat for a longer lasting bright colors.

-- What? No! The dye washes away in the water, at least it had never happened to me!

Good Luck! :thumbsup2

Hi PixieDust32, quick question: On the orange/blue/navy shirts, how did you get the navy to "spider" out like that? It's like the navy is where the shirt should stay white, and I was just wondering how you did that? (I'm sorry if this question has already been asked!) :) Thanks for any help!

I have been reading this thread for a couple of weeks now, and just have a couple of questions. I bought the Jacquard kit which says it will make 15 shirts per kit. Has anyone who's used these kits gotten 15 shirts out of them? We are planning a tye-dye party at the end of the month and will probably have about 30 shirts that will be made, and at this time I have 2 kits. Anyone think I should go grab another 'just because'?

My second question is, do I really need the Synthrapol for the final wash? I'm pretty close to Dharma Trading Company, so I could just hop across the bridge and pick it up. I'd just like to make these shirts last for a while since we'll be making them to wear on a cruise in November. One of the theme nights is a 50/60/70 night and we decided this would be the easiest costume to pack and we could wear them afterwards.

Love looking at all the shirts! And thanks to Pixie Dust for all her help! Your shirts are beauteamous!!

I would get another kit. Better to have too much, than not enough. If I were doing all the shirts, I would be able to get the correct number. But then I know how much dye to use and can control it. Children tend to soak the shirts with dye.

That's what my gut is telling me also. Thank you for agreeing with what I had already thought about doing. These are grown adults doing their own shirts, so it should be interesting! They can't grasp the concept about not using the old fashioned 'dye vat' like we 'used to do'. Won't they be surprised...lol...

Pixie -- I'm sure this has been asked before but can you please set me straight:

1) what name brand bleach pen do you use (and where do you get it from)?

2) do you do the bleach pen step when the shirt is wet or dry?

3) how long do you leave the bleach on?

Thanks so much! Your creations are AWESOME!!!!

I used Clorox one in the past.

They have to be dry.

Well, practice first on a cloth and you will see when the bleach reacts, dont put a lot of pressure and if you have gel one, remove the gel right away.

Thanks

thru this monster thread. It's my first time trying and have some questions... I think Im ready:yay: .. I got a tulip kit but have some questions:
1. The instructions say I don't have to soak in soad water before dying
2. I actually want the colors to be more dull and muted, not bright, how do I do that? Put more water in to the bottle?
3. When washing after dying, can I wash all the shirts together?:confused3

Thank You!!!!!

Tulip has the soda ash in the dye, so yes, no soaking need it.

If you want lees bright then you can add more water in the bottles.

Yes, you can wash them all together. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if there are dyes available to dye completely non cotton shirts?
