Sooo many new pages of shirts and color combinations! I love it!! Hard to keep up, though, with a poor internet connection that doesn't like to load pictures!

Pixie, I've been wanting to do red/white/blue for a while now, might have to actually make that the next project, you've inspired me!!

Loving everyones finished pictures--keep them coming!!!

Note about thread: I DO use dental floss. I actually like the waxed kind, it pulls through the shirt a little easier, and if any of the wax rubs off on the shirt, it "acts" like a little resist. However, if the shirt is really thin (like the faded glory ones from WalMart, you have to be really carefully, because the holes can become quite large.) FYI: I've used flavored when I've run out of plain, and the color/flavor has not affected the design.

That said, I'm definitely going to try the silk thread!

Hey Pixie!
I have been reading a lot and just want to verify a few things before I start (I apologize in advanced if they have already been asked).

I am planning to get the soda ash and Jacquard dye.

#1
Do you wash them prior to soaking them in the soda ash? Or prior to dying them?
#2
1 cup of ash to a gallon of water. Then soak shirts in soda ash for 40 min. Do I hang them to dry and dye or wring them out and dye them while there still damp? Do I soak them and the do my MM head or after they have soaked?
#3
After dying and waiting 24 hours, do I hang to dry and then wash or wash immediately?
#4
At what stage would I use the bleach pen to fix my mistakes, after 24 hours and before washing or after washing?
Thanks a bunch and your shirts are always so pretty!

You don't have to.

Do the Mickey first, soak, wring them with your hands and then dye.

No, you have to wash them.

After Washing.

Thanks

Pixie-- Thank you so much!

I went to Michaels to get the dye... NOTHING, except Tulip and my previous shirts have faded so bad.
Sorry for another list of questions, if you don't mind....
I am going to order from Dharma.

*Can you tell me what 'color' of red and blue do you order for your Patriotic ones?
*Is it the Fiber Reactive Procion Dye I want to order?
*Will 2 oz of the red and 2 oz of the blue be enough dye for 7 shirts?
*You said to correct my mistakes with the pen after washing, do you then re-wash the shirts?
Thanks again!

Ok, I really need 3 of these shirts, one for me, one for DW and one for DD. But I have ZERO skill at doing this type of thing (now if it was a computer...) would anyone be willing to make them for me if I pay you for time and materials?? These would be perfect for our upcoming trip. PM me or reply if you would like to assist me :hippie:

I completely forgot to post these when we made them a couple weeks ago. I love, love, love the onsie with the tulle skirt! I let my daycare kids help me put the dye on (hence the purple with mostly white for the one child that wanted to do it all by herself, lol) and all together we made 9 shirts. Here are some of them

Good job!! Thanks for sharing, and but the way, I LOVE the doggie all relaxing!

Pixie...I have a question. I had posted a while back that my shirts weren't doing as well, as I used the kit from WM. Turns out, they did ok. I will post pics soon. My question is this....I traced my outline of the mickey head with a bleach pen after the dye had set in (after initial rinse). But, the bleach pen (I used the fine point end) *bled* out and made a much bigger line, and it wasn't a true white line. It was a yellow-ish white to me. My bleach pen was not old, either. It was one I had gotten not too long ago and used in the laundry room anyway. Any thoughts on either thing (the fine point line turning into a wide line, and the color)?

THANKS!

Hi,

The only thing I can think is that maybe the bleach spread out because it was a lot coming out, you might don't see it right away, for the yellow color it might be the dye. Im sorry. I always suggest to practice on a rag first so you get and idea on how much pressure you need to apply.

Maybe I did squeeze too much out?

Here is a pic:

and here is how they looked after the bleach pen dried: (Some bled worse)

Oh I see what happened. It was a gel pen and as long as you leave the gel on the fabric it will continue to spread, you probably had to remove the gel right away to stop the spreading.

Alrighty then. That is all my stores here have (very small town ;) )....what other kind is there?

The fuchsia red is well fuchsia, its a pink shade. I used another shade, I think it was fire red.
