Spare a thought for those poor folk in South East Asia at the moment. isn't Annie (Mrs Dazzle) there right now?

I do hope they are coping as well as possible.

This is very sad and such a huge loss of life. I can't imagine what these people must be going through.

Michelle

They are in my thoughts and prayers. One of my friends at work has her 18 year old daughter in Thailand right now (she is working in a school but had gone to one of the islands for Christmas with her friends.) I pray she is OK.

So many people have said a freind of a friend was going/ is there, but everyone has been accounted for except one. His daughter is missing and they last saw her on a webcam Xmas morning. They have had no contact and they know she was at a resort in ****et. We are all praying for them,
Claire

It is awful knowing family/relatives/friends are out there.
My Brother and and his wife was going to go,but decided just before booking to go to mexico cancun, as this meant they could spend xmas with family and new year abroad.
So they are lucky, they fly out on the 30th.
It was due to family moaning about not seeing them, so it makes you wonder.

I am keeping everything crossed for people out there, and I truly hope we hear off Annie soon.

60 THOUSAND dead and still rising.

It takes the shine off our trip to WDW next week. So many children who will never know the joy of Disney, so so sad.

DH's Dad is in Indonisia at the moment, he works for an airline, luckily for him he was in the east of the islands and 1000 miles from where the tragedy struck.
Our prayers are with all those suffering due to what has happened, nature can be cruel.

Impossible to find words to describe this devastating tragedy and hard to understand the sheer enormity of it.

I feel desperately for everyone caught up in this.

I had no idea Annie and Darryl were out there - do you know whereabouts? I hope that they were nowhere near the affected areas at the time.

I just remember her PM'ing me, when I went to the Maldives last May/June, and saying they were going at Christmas. I think a lot of the Atolls are intact, certainly Veligandu, where we went, is fine apart from some water in the bar and restaurant - we've been in touch with them but some of the larger Atolls have had to evacuate.

The sheer enormity of a disaster like this can sometimes make us forget that every individual loss of life is a personal tragedy for someone. Our thoughts are with all those touched by this.

For the 'older' DISers who remember FionaR - her family were due to fly out to Sri Lanka on Boxing Day, so I'm hoping they won't have got out there. I've e-mailed her but haven't yet had a reply, but will post as soon as I do.

Fingers crossed that we hear from Annie soon.

 Thanks for thinking of us. I think the Fates must have been looking after us the day we decided NOT to go to the Maldives for Christmas. We've actually just gotten back from a fantastic ski trip over Xmas to Italy. We didn't know anything about the tidal waves until we got back home - I felt sick thinking about it, especially when we should have been in the Maldives. At the time our friends asked us to go skiing with them instead of the Maldives, we thought long and hard given I didn't think I'd be able to ski (had a bad accident several years ago and loads of metalwork in my leg). That's the best waste of a £400 deposit we've ever had.

Thank you to whoever was looking after us.

It's a terrible, terrible situation for these people, a lot of the areas affected are reliant on the tourist industry. But look how Bali has bounced back from the terrible devastation of the bombing there.

We keep thinking about the dreadful conditions over there, hoping help arrives soon not only for the tourists, but the local people. It makes you humble to think we're sat here in our cozy little homes - we live by the sea and after watching The Day After Tomorrow it makes you a little bit more appreciative over the hold mother nature has on us all.

So pleased to see you're home and ok. Hadn't realised you weren't going after all. Apologies to all those who were worried as a result of my posting.

Was the skiing good?

Glad to hear from you Annie :) Keep us updated about Fiona please Hilary.

Glad you and your family are ok,Annie.
Watching this on t.v is heartbreaking :(

Hilary

I saw on another board that BevS had heard that Fiona and her family were OK. Apparantly they were up in the mountains in Sri Lanka when it happened due to go to the beach the next day. So good news there too.

Annie , good to hear you're fine.

Tammy - thanks for the update on Fiona :)

Just to let everyone know that Fiona, Steve and the children are ok. They were up in the mountains and hadn't known about it until one of Fionas shop staff phoned their mobile to see if they were alright. We haven't heard anything from them since but assume that all is still ok and that they will be home soon.
