Ticket Price Increased 8/3/2008

I wonder if anyone at WDW has realized that the more they increase the price of admission the less often people can afford a vacation to WDW. If they kept the ticket prices the same, people will come, and then they will spend any amount of money on food and souveniers, but if people can't afford to get through the gate there goes all that profit from frivolous spending!
And we, as the customers, have to realize that just as OUR costs and expenses increase every year, so do Disney's - but on a much larger scale (unless any of us employ 52,000 people at any given time?). And while increased prices mean some/many Guests may be able to afford trips less often, there are still millions of people - both repeat and first-timers - visiting each year. And, frankly, since the food and souvenir costs to the increase constantly, so will/does the price charged to the end-user - the Guests.

Does anyone remember what the AP increase was last year? Better yet, does anyone have a link to historical price increase data? Thanks!

Mickeyluv'r -- I think you're right on the money with this one. With the added emphasis on 'recreation', I think you'll see an option that includes things like the waterparks and DisneyQuest but also water-mice rental, mini-golf, regular golf, etc.

A true 'recreation' ticket add-on.

That's a little of what I've been hearing on the grapevine. TOTALLY rumor at this point.. but interesting to keep in mind.

So do the rumors suggest that the price for this will be more than the $50 that the water park and more option is right now? We like to go to the water parks but the rumored options mentioned above would be nice if it turns out to be the same price for the upgrade.

If you get more recreation options....like mini golf, bike, and watermouse rentals chances are you will pay more, even with the demise of PI.

I've been wondering if they would hold off on any price changes or restructuring for maybe another month, due to the PI issue. They wouldn't really want to drop PI from the options while it's still open (at least, not until it's fairly close to it's demise), yet they wouldn't want to announce and publish one thing and have to do it all over again in 4-6 weeks when PI does go under. It would make more sense to have maybe a September first change/increase date, and drop PI from everything at that point except as a one day ticket. Not saying they couldn't make changes twice, but it would cost them more than just doing it right the first time.

Since you guys are so knowledgeable on tickets, I have a question for you. Our family is going to Disney during free dining. I just got the package with the one day base ticket. Once we arrive, I am planning on upgrading to annual passes, since we are going during Thanksgiving too. Should I call and add the annual passes to my package now with the chance of the AP's cost going up? How will that work with the free dining? Thanks!!!

tamman, I don't think you can do that. I think you have to wait if you want to upgrade tickets to AP.

It makes sense that the new push will be to get folks doing things other than the water parks.

It also would make sense to me that the one new perk would be the new hot air balloon ride at DTD - site of PI - somethign to draw folks to that area more.

As it stands now, adding on park days five through ten only costs a few dollars on an expiring ticket.

SEcond, that recent Disney show on the Travel channel was a big commercial for 'other' stuff to do at WDW. If those extras were basically included in my WDW ticket, then I, personally, would be more interested in trying them.

Disney isn't stupid. MYW was about keeping folks onsite, but I'm sure it hurt the bottom dollar for mini-golf and other attractions (PI?)....but as I said, now that Disney has you staying onsite.....going on a carriage ride, or mini-golf, or getting to DTD takes time - esp if you don't have a car, and have to rely on WDW transportation.

If existing guests use WDw transportation more, does the government reimbursement increase since in essence, Disney is increasing it's ridership and the amount of transportation they are providing?

So maybe we can start fantasizing about some of the new perks that might be included...I'd love to see an expansion of the bride's Cinderella carriage ride. Wouldn't it be cool if any little girl (and big girls to V&A) could arrive at 1900 Park Fare for dinner in her princess attire via royal coach?

I'm going W-A-Y out on a limb here, and guess, "no."

You can not add annual passes to a package.

At check-in ask for the one day tickets not be put on your Key to the World Card. This is important because your dining credits are on the card and you don't want them to get messed up. If the front desk says they can't do it, go to the Concierge desk and they will be able to separate the tickets for you. Once the tickets are separated from the KTTW card then you can upgrade the tickets to APs.

This may have been dicussed somewheres and I missed it.:rolleyes1 But........ I know no one can really know now if their will be a price increase and how much, but has anyone ever wondered:headache: if buying tixs now will be much of a savings, considering if you wait and purchase a package when they come out and say disney offers codes with discounts or say free hoppers with packages. How do you think we the spenders will fair?:confused3 Is it better for us to purchase tix now seperate or purchase later with a package even if there is an increase and just keep our fingers crossed that disney will continue to offer codes.:wizard:

Don't upgrade at Check In, also get your ticket media on a separate ticket from your key to the world card, because you don't want to mess with your dining credits.

Use your tickets first before upgrading them, then you will get credit at the current ticket price, not the price you paid

We have my annual pass and 6 one day base tickets.....5 of which I was planning on upgrading at check in to 7 day hoppers....so you are saying that we should USE the one day base ticket first.....but then we will actually have used the whole ticket up - no? Don't you need to upgrade before the ticket is used up? Hope this makes sense....

So.... this is a little more 'complicated' question.
I have some pre-MYW Park Hoppers Plus tix. All that's left on them is the plus portion. Can they be upgraded to anything?

I'll be watching to see if this happens. Doesn't the increase usually take place on a Sunday?

I believe the ticket can be upgraded as long as it is within 14 days of use. Don't quote me on this though. Hopefully someone can answer this more definitively. If not, just upgrade them at check in, it is better to lose a couple of dollars, than a couple hundred.

Old park hopper plus tickets can not be upgraded. You can just use the admissions. Again, I'm not an expert, so don't quote me on this one. Hopefully an expert (Cheshire Figment) will come along.

You can upgrade your ticket any time within 14 days of its first use, even if the ticket has been "used up". Last time I was in Orlando I bought a 1-day ticket and used it in EPCOT and then returned a week later to upgrade it to a 2-day ticket to use in MGM (and save a whopping $1).

The last two price increases were the first Sunday in August (08/06/06 and 08/05/07). Therefore if Disney follows the pattern this next price increase will be Sunday August 3rd.

That said, 2006 was the first time EVER that Disney raised prices in August. Before 2006 the trend seemed to be January, and overall the most increases have been in June.

Well, I AM quoting you because you are correct! :thumbsup2
(Although that first quote should read, "...the ticket can be upgraded as long as it is within 14 days of FIRST use.")

Here's Cheshire Figment's everything about tickets-

Oh geez, it sounds so confusing to upgrade and not get your dining credits messed up. Should I do this instead...call and upgrade our one day park hoppers to four day park hoppers? Then on our last day once all our dining credits have been used up, upgrade to AP's at any park guest relations counter at any park. I am assuming that I would just pay the difference between a four day PH and a AP.
