I understand that there is a promo for booking a vacation and get discount on tickets. Why do us DVCers not qualify. You would think that some discount would be given. People say it is because we are already getting g a discount on the rooms so what does that have to do with tickets? Please chime in on this topic if you wish to get others opinions.:)

It's because it's not a discount on tickets but rather a promo to sell rooms at full price. It's no different than the free dining promo and essentially the same as when a company only offers a special deal to new customers and not existing customers.

I know this subject as been discussed at great length. But what I do not understand with both this offer and the free dining. Is if you pay $200.00 night to get a room at the value resort to get either A. $74.00 in free dining ( QS for 2 people) or B. 75.00 off tickets ( just using this number to keep the numbers in the same area) You are in a sense getting a 37% discount.

Why can't they offer DVC members 30% off of dining? Or off MYW tickets?

I know beating a dead horse.

The object of Disney discount promos is to fill empty rooms. Empty rooms mean no money coming in. If all the DVC points rooms stay empty, Disney doesn't lose anything. In fact, they gain because rooms will be turned over to CRO and they get a cut. The rack rates on Disney rooms are ridiculous. They hike up the price and make you feel you are getting a deal when they offer 30% off.

The $300 off PAP promo last fall was pretty good.

Try to think of Disney as another owner of rooms. They are offering the discounts for people to book the rooms they own. As DVC members, we are not staying in rooms owned by Disney, but rooms that we own and thus why we are not eligible for discounts they are currently offering unless we choose to book their rooms.

As mentioned, they could always choose to enhance perks for DVC members, but choose not too.

why can't you mail me a couple hundred bucks in cash?

you'd probably ask "what's in it for me if i do?"

i suspect disney asks the same kind of questions...

If you were running Disney, why would YOU do that?

(And answers like "good will" or "to thank DVC Members for their commitment" aren't going to cut it.)

Because they already have our money & have us in their pockets. Once we commit to being repeat guest they don't give a rats patoot what we do.

IT would be a nice perk if DVC members could get a discounted park ticket...other than the AP. I know it has been discussed here before but nonetheless.....I think it would be used by many. :thumbsup2

Definitely!! :thumbsup2 I nixed the idea of making a quickie trip down over Memorial Day because of the price of a 3 day hopper!! Would've been fun to surprise DS for his 16th birthday but not for what they charge for reg. hopper tix!!! And I'm having a small herd of cows over the price of a 4-day hopper for DL this summer!! :faint:

I wouldn't say that Disney doesn't care what members do. Members receive dining discounts, merchandise discounts, Annual Pass discounts--including the limited time $300 PAP offer.

Clearly Disney DOES have an interest in member spending. They just aren't willing to offer even more discounts--foregoing profits every time--to heap even more discounts upon DVC members.

I really don't understand the venom that often accompanies discussions of "free dining", hotel incentives and discount programs in general. DVC is a quid pro quo--it's something for something. We agree to give Disney a large sum of money up front in return for deep savings on the accommodations.

Park admission, souvenirs, dining and other portions of a trip are certainly expensive, but Disney prices them at the limits of what it feels the market will bear. None of these costs are taking anyone by surprise.

I know this often sounds like a glib dismissal but anyone who isn't satisfied with the value of the DVC product should simply sell their points. The resale market is healthy. There's no reason to remain locked-into a Disney vacation cycle if the money is better spent elsewhere.

If a Value resort with free dining is a better match for one's Disney habits, so be it.

But when it comes to Deluxe accommodations, I can't see anyone doing better than the 60-80% savings off of rack which are likely with DVC. You're simply not going to pay less with free dining, free tickets, free days or any other incentive Disney runs for cash guests.

I took full advantage of that PAP last fall for $399 that was an amazing deal. I should have bought more of them.
Anyway for us DVC'ers that go more than once a year that is a savings for us you need to look at it that way. We also get the TiW card which for dining is a much cheaper option than buying a meal plan. again JUST MHO

One do the benefits of buying the AP...makes those quick trips so much more doable...especially convincing DH!!!! Lol

Our thing now is having two in college. We went for spring break and got back last Thursday....4 of us got AP's but not our son who already had plans. SO....we will need to get him a regular park ticket in Aug. It's so hard to plan DVC trips now with the college kiddos.

I hear you!!!! Next year, two of our kids will be in college too. So, for the first time we are going to Disney without them. We like going in November and our son (who will be in 8th grade at the time) has a few days off that week. So, that is when we are going. We told the girls that we would try to go spring break with them or they will have to wait and go the next year in January. Annual passes have not worked for us since we only go once a year. But, that may change...

We usually DO buy AP's but ours just expired at the end of March. We didn't buy into that special deal with the $399 PAP because we cannot go to WDW this year. Instead, we're blowing all of our points and vaca time (and then some) on a 2 week trip to DL and Aulani this summer. We don't know for SURE when we'll be able to go back to WDW. HOPEFULLY next year over spring break. But so in the meantime, I personally would appreciate a discount on just plain old regular hopper tickets. While I really like that we get the discount on the AP's not every DVC member can use AP's every year. I know we cannot if we plan trips outside of WDW here & there. If we DO buy AP's then we plan 2-3 trips on them - but no can do EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I just think that discounts on all sorts of park tickets (not JUST AP's) are the ONE thing that all DVC members could benefit from. Likewise, a discount on the AP that is good on both coasts would be nice too. If they offered a discount on THAT one we could maybe have bought that this year - use it at DL this summer then plan 2 trips to WDW for next year. BUT NOOOOO. No discount. It's not worth it for the full price to shell out that much money in one shot without any discounts. You'd have to live close enough on one coast or the other to go just about any time the mood struck to get the value out of it.

I think if we were in-between AP's (like we are now) and the timing doesn't work to buy new ones we would be inclined to plan more short trips (on short notice). But the cost of 3 day park hoppers is cost prohibitive. It's actually crazy how much they are. I priced both airfare and park tickets for Memorial Day weekend and the park tickets would cost as much or more than the airfare. That's kinda sad. I am not going to spend $1,400 for a 3-day weekend even if it IS to my happy place. But it would've been such a great surprise for my DS's 16th birthday.:(

I am not saying this with "venom" nor am I clamoring for free dining or anything else - I just think that it would be in their best interest to offer more discounts on the obvious thing all DVC'ers need - park tickets. I could've used 3 days at WDW and then will definitely need 4 days at DL this year and will have to pay ridiculous prices for them.

Why would it be in their best interest?

There are 3500 DVC villas at WDW with a daily occupancy that is probably in the range of 20,000 - 25,000. Hundreds...perhaps thousands of those guests every single day choose to pay full price for MYW tickets. If they offered a discount, they would lose revenue (and profit) from the people who are already willing to pay full price.

I can certainly appreciate how discounts may have persuaded you to spend more money in the parks. However, realize that a DVC ticket discount would decreases the amount of money they make on every single guest who would otherwise pay full freight.

My family took advantage of the PAP discount. But I can honestly tell you we did NOT schedule any extra trips. We did NOT add anymore DVC points. We did NOT spend any extra souvenir dollars with the 20% discount. We used the passes to visit Blizzard Beach and DisneyQuest. If not for those free add-ons, we had discussed paying full price for single-day admission to BB.

In our case, Disney clearly lost money via the PAP discount.

Right now, it appears that Disney doesn't believe they would come out ahead with increased discounting. Things like the limited time PAP discount may serve as a trial balloon to see how members respond. I would expect Disney to continue tweaking and adjusting things for years to come.

But I don't buy into the idea that there's any financial benefit to Disney if they were to offer blanket discounts on tickets, dining plans and other trip components.

I just find it hard to believe that I am the lone DVC member that will not plan a short trip if I have to pay gate price for a 3-day tix. If we DID go then I know my spending habits while there. We would probably eat at least 6 meals in the parks (2-3 TS) and buy some sort of souvenirs (likely DVC merchandise). As a rough guess, knowing our spending habits I would say that we would spend somewhere around $500 while there for a long weekend. If Disney gave us say a $30 disc. per person they would still make about $400 off of us IF WE CAME. But we will not. While we will certainly return the following year when we CAN take advantage of buying AP's they will lose a trip out of us for this year.

And because we cannot get a discount on our DL tix for the 4 days we are there this summer I am thinking of not planning ANY TS meals. If I could get a discount on my park tix then I would probably plan 2 or 3 TS meals. But the money has to come from someplace and if it ain't comin' from any discount / incentives then it probably isn't going to happen for us. And as a trickle down this will likely in turn affect how many meals we eat onsite at Aulani as well. I read mixed reviews about the dining choices there and from what I've read Ama Ama is downright expensive. If we can go across the street to Monkey Pod Kitchen or Roys and dine at places that I read GOOD reviews on for less $ then why wouldn't I just go there instead? It all comes down to our bottom line for our budget. If DL costs us an arm & a leg then we'll have to cut back at Aulani too. Right now, next to our flights, the park tix at DL are our next biggest expense. Just sayin'. A little incentive goes a long way for some of us.:upsidedow

FYI, in case you didn't already know, you can get $$ off RunDisney registration for the half marathons w/your DVC membership.

For the F&W races this year, tix tied to those dates are 40%. Even those entered in the 5K qualify, so that might work for some people. Codes come with your registration email.

We'd do it (DH is already doing the DLR Half) but we've committed for December already. HTH someone else.
