What's dishonest about booking a room and paying for it?

Hint: "loophole" wasn't closed because it wasn't a "loophole."

This subject has been debated to death.

Those of us that chose to take this route ("throwaway" rooms) will never convince those "do-gooders", that this is a viable choice. Best to ignore them. :thumbsup2

I assuage my personal guilt by remembering that the common retort from onsite apostles to someone extolling the utter superiority of offsite accommodations:

"Well, you're hardly ever in your room."

Throwawayers are merely taking "hardly" to a whole new level

I just find it ironic that so many people complain that the new system is too much angst and planning in advance. But, some will gladly try to figure out ways to game the system, that takes time and planning too.

hmmm... let's see, booking a Disney resort for 7 nights with a one night deposit , taking advantage of the 60 day FP window offered to resort guests when you don't really plan on being one... then canceling, getting a refund and staying offsite so you don't have to wait the 30 days for offsite guests... hint: that can be described as dishonest.

Also... please understand I am not saying anything about the partial on-site/off-site .... just those that completely lie about being a resort guest altogether to avoid a 30 day wait for FPs.

That's not what people are doing.

No one is booking a 7 night stay with a one night deposit. There would be absolutely no reason to do that. People are booking a one night stay and paying for it - in full. What is dishonest about that?

I am not too concerned about hotel rooms as throw aways but those that take the camping sites are making it much harder for those families who cannot afford to stay at Disney unless they camp, especially those with lots of kids.

Yes... people are booking for days onsite... using the 30 day extra allowance for FPs and then cancelling and staying offsite. It gives them a 30 day advantage, that's all. But they are doing it... several on this thread have talked about that very thing.

Also, you are right, there is nothing dishonest about booking the room and paying... those aren't what I was talking about.

The Fort isn't all that cheap... the sites are as much as an offsite hotel... $110.00 a night in summer. We stay at the Fort... not because we can't afford the other resorts... but because we like our own RV with our beds, kitchen, golf cart, bikes.... the atmosphere is what attracts most. I guess compared to the other resorts is it less expensive. There are some amazing RVs coming in to the Fort... I'm sure many cost more than our house. We do like the other resorts too... sometimes we do partial stays... we love the Boardwalk and the kids love POP. Well... one kid is in the Army now... so he doesn't come with anymore. Anyway... I really got off the subject.

One person wrote: "I have heard that the loophole still exists where somewhere books a room only for the entire length that they have tickets for (ie. book for room-only for 7 days but pay a one night deposit)."

Another answered a question posed about how this was even possible.

An honest read of this thread shows that of those who considered booking a room to get the perks are planning on paying for the room.

Also, there is nothing dishonest about booking the room and paying... those aren't what I was talking about.

Agree, although there are more than a few who believe that even this practice is dishonest.

Wanted to report that the rolling 60 days is still working. We will not be cancelling our throwaway room. When you take away the cost of parking for 2 days and the cost of magic bands for the whole party, we are coming out ahead.

Are people still booking throwaway rooms to get 60 days rather than 30 days? I thought this would go away once everybody could book ahead.

Same here! We're staying one night at AOA before heading for an off-site vacation home for 7 days.

The cost of Magic Bands x 6 people + $17 per day for parking (which we won't have to pay for 2 of our park days) + the convenience of booking 60 days of FP+ in advance makes it well worth the cost of one night in an AOA suite -- and I received 30% off of that with the advertised Spring discount! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 yep we kept ours too... not just for the 60 days (but was already in the process when they opened it up for everyone) but the reasons everyone else has mentioned.. our party of 7 will come out ahead with the magic bands (which the kids want to wear) and the parking for 2 days... but the main reason though was to eat at BOG with a fp+ :))

oh and I really wish the OP would change this title...

I have updated my original post. Sorry! Took me some time to figure out how to change the title.

And to add another advantage, the throwaway room is nice to have for the BOG Lunch FP since you are required to have a resort reservation number to make the lunch reservation.

One of the AOA suites is a lot more cost-wise than 6-7 magic bands and a couple days of parking, so yea I'm not understanding this. I could see maybe a value room with a party of 4, maybe coming out close to even...
