Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

Does anyone know whether the "loophole" of the throwaway room connected to tickets making Magic Bands and prescheduling FP+ available will work if the onsite stay is in the middle of the trip?

I would like to do the dining plan for a couple days.

We are staying for ten days so my thought is to do a one or two day stay at Pop and connect it to 10 day tickets with the dining plan for the duration of the Pop reservation. I'd like to be able to have the dining plan days be in the middle of the stay because I want to do a few character meals and I'd like them to be after we've been at the parks for a couple days, so that I'll be able to surprise my kids with something new.

Do you guys thing this will work? Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I'm interpreting your question correctly. But if I am...... the dining credits are only good from the day you check in through midnight the day you check out. So while there could be some leeway on using the room to trigger your ability to book FP+ days, there is absolutely NO leeway with the days you use your dining credits.

You are misinterpreting the question. The previous poster said that they want the dining plan for the duration of the Pop stay which indicates that they know that it's only available for those days. The question is actually about the connection of magic bands and FP+, not the dining plan.

You know, this is how I know that this whole thing is Disney's New Coke.

Pages and pages of threads dedicated to figuring out how to exploit the reservation system solely to gain access to some relatively broken tech in order to pre-schedule a grand total of 3 rides per day.

And somehow, the WDW Parks team, which is world-reknowned for their nearly unparalleled day-in and day-out crowd management capability, is failing to manage those crowds well.

:faint:

This is kind of a PR disaster for them. I don't know if they clearly understand this yet, but all one has to do is look around fansites like this one, look at that Facebook page, and so on. It's a bit of a mess. And they just don't seem to be getting out in front of it. They certainly have the marketing and public relations know-how to get out in front of many other potentially negative stories about the parks. Maybe they're struggling with messaging because this isn't an isolated incident that happened to one or a few guests and will never happen again, it is instead an ongoing thing happening to additional guests every day.

A year from now, I do predict they will have woken up and the FP+ rules will not look much like they look right now. I don't think they'll turn the paper machines back on (very slim chance at that), but otherwise all bets are off on what rules they change.

I just don't know.

You won't be able to make FP+ reservations for the days before you're supposed to check in at Pop. So if your reservation is 26th January to 28th January, the first FP+ reservations you could make would be 26 January. You can make them after your reservation for the duration of your ticket.

For the dining credits, you must use them from the day you check in until the day you check out. In the above example, you could use your dining credits 26th January until 28th January (until midnight)

It's who we are and what we do for fun...

Beancounters generally aren't good at people skills.

Been sayin' that for weeks now.

I'm calling it "Plan B From Anaheim."

Is it just me... Rooms are expensive, I can't see staying offsite and paying $100 a night just to get FP+. :confused3

You only have to pay the "$100" once - it seems one night's stay conveys the privilege of FP+ advanced reservations for the duration of the linked ticket. As long as you actually pay and don't cancel. And possibly have to check-in and check-out (to be determined. Waiting for some reports back from those who have gone this route!)

You can do the online check but never physically turn up and still get the privileges. You can't cancel the room of you will lose your privilages.

So online check in will activate the bands?

I'm interested in verifying this as well. Trying to determine if you have the magic bands mailed to you whether you actually have to show up at the hotel to get them activated before going to the parks. If we could go straight to the parks first as long as we checked in online that would be better. Anyone done this?

Magic bands will work for park admission prior to check in. Not sure about parking...

So online check in will activate the bands?

The bands are activated (in terms of being able to make FP+ reservations) as soon as your 60-day window opens. When we called, we were advised that we'd need to actually check in (online or in person) to make sure that the FPs wouldn't be cancelled. We did online check-in and had no issues. We were never physically at POP and my SIL's FP+s worked the entire week, even though we only booked them a one-night stay at POP.

I don't know if the FPs still would have worked if we hadn't done online check-in and had paid but never checked in. We didn't want to chance it.

But as of October, all you needed to do was book a one-night stay onsite, link your tickets, and check-in online. You had FP+s with 60 day advance reservation booking for the entire 8-day ticket.

The bands are activated as soon as they're shipped. Check in does nothing to the bands as such. You can take them straight from the airport to the parks and they should work (I say should simply because of all the problems people have been experiencing with Magic Bands) You don't even need to check into the resort for FP+ to work but you do need pay for the room. Cancelling the reservation may cancel your access to FP+.

We have Magic Bands and can now use them without any resort reservation attached. We can use them now to access the parks with our AP's :)

Do you know how this would work for parking? If you check in online can you park for free at the parks or do you need to physically go to the resort?

It refers to the practice of booking one night at a Disney resort room you do not intend to use (most likely because you are actually staying offsite), just so you can get advance access to fastpass plus.

Oh I see!

We have actually done this for emh and free parking-but I didn't know there was terminology available to describe the booking.
