This commonly accepted "going rate" for point rental is more realistic! Previously, when people undercut the market and rented them for $10 (or less) per point they were actually LOSING money on their investment cost (adjusted for inflation initial investment depreciated plus annual maintenance fees). LETS ALL BE FAIR TO EACH OTHER and continue to "hold the line" at renting points @ $12 per. Thank You!

While I have never rented my points (I don't have enough to spare), if the opportunity arises and I need to I'll come up with a price and try to rent them. Frankly, I really won't care about trying to hold the line for all those that make a practice of renting out points on a regular basis. I wouldn't be out to try to make a living off renting out my DVC points, just recoup my fees and cover my costs, and give somebody else a good deal. If you can get $12 out of your points, good for you. But I see no reason why you need to come to these boards and solicit folks to be FAIR to each other, so you can get a few more bucks out of your points! JMHO

I was sorry to see this.
Been saving so I could rent some points and see what DVC is all about and hoping to talk DH into investing in a timeshare at WDW. Didn't want to do All-star, wanted DH to get the feel of what you all have been writing about. O well, if price goes up, not this year, I"ll save a little more , dream a little more and maybe see mickey next year.

Thanks to another great member out there, I was able to rent points for $10 each. When I was looking, I never had anyone tell me that they wanted $12. If they had, I would have wrote them back and said "Good Luck! The going rate seems to be $10." For those looking for points, don't fret, they will still be available at $10. I don't think that everyone out there is looking to make money. They are most likely renting out points to pay cash for a cruise.

This kind of collusion isn't proper. The free market works best when people ask for and negotiate what the market will bear, not what they've agreed to force the market to bear.

Yes, some of us are renting our points to pay for a cruise because it is cheaper to pay by cash than through DVC.

ok, here's an update from April 17-24. Wood's View regular hotel room at wilderness lodge = $1488 through CRO including tax, studio at wilderness lodge villas = 143 points.

Sat. night April 17, two bedroom at OKW = 100 points, cash through cro = $490 including tax, through DVC cash with discount = $510 plus tax. The cash price goes down for weekend of April 23-34, points = 73 per night.

I only know these off the top of my head because we just changed our reservation from that week. For large accomodations on week day nights, $10 a point is a good deal even considering the trust involved. For weekends, it isn't necessarily a good deal. Points are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. It's like saying a paid X thousand dollars for my car and that is what it is worth - the onlyh value it has is what someone is willing to pay for it, not what you have invested in it. If someone wants to give you $15 per point, great. If someone wants to rent their's for $5 per point, fine. Your "competition" isn't other renters, it is CRO.

just imho.

The points really are worth more than $10, but most people will rent them for $10. Until something big happens (Like Disney putting more value on the points or maintenance fees increasing) it will stay at $10 per point. No one can just say lets charge $12 and all of a sudden there $12. I've read some mixed posts here. Some people don't care at all about the value of their points and some realize the full value of what they have. One day the tide will turn to $12 but not now.

yeah, one day reservations will cost more through CRO and people will be willing to pay more to rent DVC points. I agree with you that the rental "going rate" will go up. The have whatever value someone is willing to pay for them.

It would be nice to have 2 seperate rates for renting, a lower amount to another dvc and a higher amount to non dvc .
that would be neighborly like::yes::

who cares how much 2 consenting adults decide what is a fair price for them....if somebody rented to somebody for $20 a point that does not make them a bad person if the other party agreed....if someone rents for $3 a point it does not make them the greatest person in the world either...like the one poster siad he was lucky to have a nice dvc member rent to him for $10 a point and if somone said $12 a point he would have given a wise *** comment like good luck" instead of no thanks but thanks for the offer...i personally would never rent to someone for $10 a point and I am a nice guy....it is not about what it cost me for the points but it is about how much it would cost for the renter to book thru disney and pay cash....if 5 nights would cost $1600..than I would be willing to save that person 50% and rent for $800....depending on the time of year it may only be 55 points or it may be 70 points...how many points it cost me is none of the renters buisness....just my opinion...i have rented on ebay a few times..just extra points that i couldnt use...no i dont do it as a business...if i did my family would never eat because you cant do it as a buisness and make a living..it is impossible...i had at least 40 inquiies on dates and different questions on availability and had to make numerous calls to MS to ck....i was not at all offended when I gave them the info and they did not buy the vacation...everyone should do what is best for them and thier families...i tried to rent here once and just didnt want to let go of points that cheap..that is my decision...but dont tell me that i am not a good DVCer because i wanted more...to me the renters are the selfish ones..than think you should give them a 70% break on what thier vacation would cost thru disny....

That is what it boils down to....

DVC members would like to rent points for more $

Non-DVC would like to buy points as cheap as possible. ( who can blame them?)

I'm a member.......If i can't use my points, i would rent them.( problem is...I never have enough points)

So.........RELAX...the poster was just trying to say they are glad they may be able to get more money for their points...What's wrong w/ that? Don't you want more money for your used car, etc.?

Personaly.......( Don't flame me!!) I wish that we would not rent out points.....
I've heard people say " Why Buy, when I can rent out points at $10.00?) We are just allowing Non-DVC renters a cheap vacation at our expense.

I'm not much of a renter (a couple of times when we got stuck because of relative's backing out) and I don't believe in collusion, BUT....

I tend to agree a bit with golfnut - somehow it gets under my skin a little when I see people who don't want to pay for All Stars and think someone from DVC should accomodate them with a "bargain" so they can stay in a Deluxe. (I've even seen 'em get angry because somebody on the Resort Board told 'em they "know" that you could get a room for 6 people for less than $80/nite!). Or act like they are doing you a favor because they offer you $7/point. We have taken family along for free, we have charged friends or relatives dirt cheap to cover our costs, I can even see donating points to a good cause, but if I were to rent to a stranger I don't believe I owe them a "deal" when it's my money that is tied up and mostly my risk.

Of course this is mostly a moot point as we bought the points to USE.:p :p

1) The OP obviously tries to make a living out of renting DVC points.

2) I agree with WDWSTAR and will rent (rarely, when I do) to DVC members at a much lower rate than non DVC members. I do not believe I owe anyone anything--but I also believe that my fellow DVCers pay enough through maintenance fees, etc. and that we should take care of each other if we rent to each other. As far as non-DVC members, if they want my points, on the rare instance that I rent them, they have to pay more--or they can pass on them.

3) But, our points are for us to use, first and foremost--so this is mostly a moot point for us.

4) Have a great day everyone!!!!!

"1) The OP obviously tries to make a living out of renting DVC points."

That is always the conclusion that I come to when these threads are started.

wdwstar I would rent them to you cheap if I had any left LOL!!

I just did a quick check on the rebt/trade board. Of the most rececnt twelve rental posts 8 were for $10, 2 were for less than $10, and there was 1 post for $12,and one for $ 13.

So where does the OP get that The majority are charging more than $10 per point? I doubt that the $12 And $13 posts are getting as much response as the MAJORITY

Truthfully, does anyone really believe that someone could make a living by renting points at $12?
