Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Saturday Morning

In a few months I’ll be thinking of planting flowers 🌷

#1 - LOCAL FAMILY OWNED NURSERIES/GREENHOUSES - I buy my flowers at many different places. I do my best to buy from local family owned places. I just got a postcard from one with their opening date. It’s hanging on my fridge which helps me feel like Spring is around the corner.

#2 - FLOWER & GARDEN FESTIVAL - May will be our third trip in a row during F&G. I enjoy this festival a lot - the food booths are fun and I love all the topiaries.

#3 - MY WEDDING BOUQUET - I loved my very large wedding bouquet. I don’t think my left hand could hold it today for as long as I held it 31 years ago. I have our wedding photo framed at the end of the hall, so I look at it everyday. That bouquet was so beautiful!

1. Wild flowers that grow along the roadside. I love seeing them when I am walking everyday in the spring. 🌼
2. Fields of sunflowers 🌻Some of the farmers in my county grow these and it is so beautiful to drive buy when they are in bloom and you can look across and see acres of yellow heads facing the sun.
3. Flower beds. 3 years ago my DS bought me 3 of the saddest looking lsingle stem illy plants for mother's day. I managed to keep them alive and DH made me a raised bed to put them. The following year and last year they have grown and bloomed. The root is now about 12 inches in diameter and they are just beautiful when they are blooming. 🩷

Flower festival at EPCOT it’s giving me so many ideas over the years of things I’d like to try at my house

Just the flowers at DISNEY anytime throughout the years they are absolutely always gorgeous anywhere at the resorts at the parks it’s beautiful I’m always taking a picture trying to find out what kind of flowers they are they’re just so beautiful

Fields of sunflowers 🌻 I love seeing pictures of fields of sunflowers a flower that grows 5 feet or bigger it’s just amazing and whole field of them are absolutely gorgeous

And I agree Hometown nurseries I absolutely love them I was so sad that the one by my house that I have been going to for over 50 years closed it just broke my heart I have such fun memories of going there all year long and getting my flowers my plants my Christmas trees all kinds of stuff it made me so sad when they’re closed going to your local hardware store to get your plants is just not the same

Afternoon all,

1. Garden centres - I love walking around a garden centre. A lot of them have a lot of unique things, homewares etc as well as all of the amazing Christmas displays. And they all tend to have really good cafes too.

2. Floral patterns - big fan of floral patterns on anything, from homewares to clothing.

3. Flower & Garden festival - I've never been before but I'll be going for the first time this year and I am so looking forward to it! I can't wait to see all the topiaries in person.

Luke 12 shares about the lillies of the field...the splendor and grace available to us... having lived in the Willamette valley that was a foreign concept... everything bloomed and flourish
But here in the Sonoran desert 🏜️ 🏜️ rain is needed....we had enough for the dandelions to flourish, a clover like bush and yellow brush flowers... but no lillies... not enough rain to swell the bulbs...a soaking rain will grow them 4 feet tall

Trader Joe’s Flowers- between the prices and no nonsense offerings, I find myself buying flowers for me “just because.”

Floral surprise- I can’t remember how many years we lived in this house before being surprised by a plant on the side of the house. It usually just looks leafy and green. It also is a bit freeze sensitive but always bounces back. Then, one year, I glanced back and saw a burst of color. It turns out that it’s shell ginger and this is what happens when it decides to bloom!

Flame mimosa- I always wanted a mimosa tree as a kid. The flowers smelled so nice and were so vibrant AND FLUFFY looking. When our dog died in 2019, I wanted to plant something in her memory. The daisies I picked didn’t quite take hold but the mimosa I planted did. It took several years for it to flower but this is a pic from the first year we got blooms. It’s now a full sized tree that puts forth a tremendous amount of flowers for several months.
