Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I had a dear friend that attended Ithaca. He loved it and went on to do great things in the music industry! I always loved when we took little road trips from Syracuse to visit Ithaca and Cornell.
It is so beautiful there, although the winters are so cold. Our daughter did theatre and when we were driving up from VA to see her in a show in February one year, we actually had to turn around and go back home because they had closed the roads due to ice. Trucks were lined up on the side of the road. I cried all the way home!
My one regret is that we didn’t spend more time walking/hiking through the parks there. They were so beautiful, with the waterfalls, the lake, and the gorges. My daughter still wears her Ithaca Is Gorges tshirt :)

I love Ithaca- I went to Cornell. After graduation, I went to UMaine for my master's, met DH, and followed him to Syracuse for his PhD. I was so excited to be there- many of my good friends from Cornell were still there... it was like going back home. (I lived in grad housing even though I was an undergrad, so friends were still there finishing their PhDs when we went back to NY).

That is so cool! I love how these connections are happening on this thread!

Sunday joy to all with a hug.

I'm not a surprise for myself person at all. It has meant a lot to me to have been able to help create happy surprises for others especially my beloved dad for his birthdays.

Surprise Points from Kmart of old were sure a fun blessing that both gave dad and I disounts on needed items but more meaningfully made it easier financially to be able to donate toys at Christmas.

Stockings are fun to fill with surprises:santa:

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - My 50th Birthday Present - DH surprised me with a WDW trip for my 50th birthday. WDW and I share the same birthday month and year, so my DH knew it was very important for me to be at WDW during the 50th celebration. It was a wonderful and thoughtful surprise.

#2 - My 1st Pregnancy - Such a wonderful surprise when I found out I was expecting. I went off birth control and boom…I was pregnant. I never expected it to happen so fast. I got pregnant incredibly fast with my 2nd too.

#3 - This was is going to sound silly……my DD20 and I walking in the door of our AllStar Movies room last year and seeing our name on the TV welcoming us - we were so surprised and excited. We still talk about it. We loved that resort, we really did!

As much as I love surprising others, I’m not a fan of being surprised. I’m going to focus on life’s little surprises.

1. After spending 4 hours with our furbaby at the emergency vet last night, I was pleasantly surprised that she was ready to go home when I arrived at 7 this morning.

2. Wild animal sightings - I think that’s some of the beauty of wildlife outside of a zoo. You never know if you’re going to see anything but it’s such a great surprise when you do.

3. Surprising plot twists - While it’s sometimes gratifying to have a storyline go as planned, those unexpected twists and turns keep it interesting and engaging.

My second pregnancy- I have issues and had a very hard time getting pregnant the first time with help so many many years later without any help I was shocked ( and so was my Dr) when I surprised got pregnant- over the moon happy 😊 my Dr was like are you sure ? Yup 3 test I’m sure 🤣🤣🤣

My other surprises I can say are things that I’m grateful that they turned out well when it didn’t appear they were going to - different items over so many years I’m sticking to the major serious ones but I’m very grateful the situation turned out well so grateful

I don’t really believe in coincidences - but believe it’s a small world and Devine intervention - I’m grateful for receiving what I feel is that on several occasions- people who have come into my life when I needed them the most - so much in common with them non judgmental very supportive And helpful - kindness goes a long way and you just never may know what that means to someone at that time - you may think they are saving you when you may be saving them !
I’m grateful I found this wonderful thread full of kind peeps I’m grateful for all of you !! Was it a coincidence I think not !! But either way I’m still grateful I found it!! 🙏❤️

I have a quirky coincidence thing that happens to me often. I will be reading while the TV is on and someone will say a word at almost the exact time that I read it. These are not common words either.

Meeting my DH on a train was a very nice, and life changing, surprise :)

Becoming pregnant after 2 years of trying was the best surprise ever!

The kids I was babysitting for surprising me with balloons/decorations at their house on my birthday

Connecting with a "once removed" cousin at a family reunion and realizing how eerily much we had in common

Little coincidences here on the DIS (like several people yesterday mentioning a connection to Ithaca College - my uncle used to work there as well!)

Ok, an example of my quirky word coincidences.I was just reading a post by someone named M. Alvarez about LL’s on FB and my DH is watching the Mets game and as I read her name they said Alvarez while describing a play at home plate. (He’s the Mets catcher) All the time!!

1. Running into people we know on vacation - we've run into people from our home town almost every time we've been to Disney World!

2. DH's family threw a surprise baby shower for me when I was pregnant with our 3rd baby. It was a small shower with close family invited, but I was completely surprised by it!

3. DH gave me a ring for our 9th anniversary - we don't typically give each other big gifts - it still honestly surprises me that he bought it for me on his own without telling me about it lol!

Lazy Susan’s !!! I have a bunch use them all over the place and love them !!!

Tires 🛞- always need a good set of tires !!! You will appreciate them more once you’ve dealt with a bad set 🤣🤣

Glass Bowls - I like collecting glass bowls - not like tons just unique glass bowls - I like displaying them - maybe something in them maybe not but I just love the way they look !!

1. Cone of shame- it's kind of a blessing and a curse, but it's keeping the dog from messing with her medical issue area when I can't keep a constant eye on her. I have a more comfortable device arriving later on today that hopefully will be easier for her... that also won't take me out at the ankles every time she walks into me or scratch up the vehicles every time she tries to walk in the driveway.

2. Pots and Sauce/Frying Pans- Was just thinking about dinner last night. DH made spaghetti and the stovetop had all kinds of pots and pans going for the meal.

3. Softballs- While I think my wallet is cursing them, it is a big part of our life. DD18 was pretty excited to learn that she'll be getting into OU softball for free come the spring and a day doesn't go by without something softball related for DD15. Coach decided to stick with with last year's uniforms and just add one new one to the mix, so the wallet isn't too angry about that, but it told me off after it saw the fall schedule. LOL
