Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Cars - enjoying the classic muscle cars of the late 60's, to my 1989 Honda CRX Si (which my DS19 wishes that I would have kept)

St. Louis Cardinals, the team that my beloved Red Sox beat in the 2004 and 2013 World Series. Sorry, just feeling a little mischievous tonight. 😈

Baseball Cards, so thankful my mom never threw away the thousands and thousands of card that I collected over the years

You had me until you said Red Socks !! My poor STL Cardinals !!! I believe we won in 67 but we are #2 with most World Series wins behind those NY Yankees - doubt our Cardinals will be getting there any time soon the way they keep playing lately but one can hope!!

Good Wednesday Morning!

#1 - Floating in my pool - this is my #1 slow paced activity. I will go out around 11:00am and stay out until about 4:00pm. If the sun is out, and the heat is blazing, I’ll stay out as long as possible.

#2 - New Years Day - One of my most favorite days of the year - it’s my day off from life. I wake up, go downstairs, sit in front of the TV and remain there until I go to bed at night. I stay in my pajamas and guests are not welcome that day. No one is allowed to ask anything from me unless it’s an emergency. I love this day! This NYD we’ll be in WDW, so I may do my day off from life on another day.

#3 - Working on my puzzles - I love this slow paced activity. I’m almost done with my current puzzle, so I need start thinking about which puzzle I want to work on next.

I do not do well with slow paced! 🤣 I think it's why I'm not a beach person and why I start going a bit stir crazy on cruises.

Slow paced animals- The photographer in me appreciates them because I don't have to rush shots and I don't have to worry about them charging me, even if I've kept a good distance. Still, some of them are super cute... like sloths! What would Zootopia have been without Flash?!?!?

Slow paced stories- Yes, you want some big moments to keep you engaged, but I think this is part of why TV binging is so popular. Don't get me wrong, I love a good movie. Still, there's something to be said for telling a story over the course of 5 seasons, each with ten+ 60 minute episodes. That slow pace gives you time for everything from character development to drawn out subplots.

Slow paced food cooking- While we're usually rushing and throwing things together, my mind went to the "low and slow" requirements for smoking things like brisket and pork butt. I've even noticed a difference with things like Stroganoff and stews. It's totally doable in the InstantPot, but I think the flavors develop better if you take the slow cooker route.

I keep meaning to try chia seeds! Are they flavorful, or is it all about what you add to them? Any tips for how to prepare them? 😃
I think they have absolutely no flavor, but I eat them because they are supposed to be really good for you with fiber, protein and good fats. I make a chia seed pudding using plain Greek yogurt, milk (I use unsweetened non dairy—almond, coconut), and the chia seeds. The seeds soften and expand in the milk/yogurt. I top it with microwaved frozen blueberries—makes a bit of syrup. I typically make a big batch that gives me about 6 servings. It does need to sit a while before the seeds soften—minimum of 1-2 hirs—I stir a few times during that time.

I know there are other recipes on line to add them to smoothies, muffins, quick breads etc but I don’t do that. I’ve also read that you can use them as a vegan egg substitute.

Since I have to be conscious of every movement due to my back, I have learned to move slowly and I have found that I really enjoy it.
I am truly a stop and smell the roses kind of person. I take walks, but it is more meandering and observing than exercise. :)
I like to breathe in and out slowly to help calm me down when I am feeling anxious. It isn’t always easy, but I make a good effort.
I take a very long time to drink my morning cup of coffee. I read, play word games on my phone, hang out on the DIS, etc. Best part of retirement!
I do move a bit more quickly at WDW, and when I lived in NY, I would always be moving quickly and with energy that I didn’t even know I had!

Thank you so much for this. :thumbsup2 I'll give them a try, when I remember to buy some!

Seconding these:
Working on my puzzles - I love this slow paced activity. I’m almost done with my current puzzle, so I need start thinking about which puzzle I want to work on next.
(I'm working on one as well - but it's down to the hard "all look alike" pieces, and I'm going slower than usual.)

Dinner cooking slowly in the crock-pot.
Love my crock pot!!

And adding:
Vacations! I love how the whole pace of life changes when we get away for a few days.

(Wed, 5/29) - 3 slow-paced things you're grateful for
Oh my goodness. I love this topic... Ha!
1. Sloths
2. Reading
3. Me, when I'm walking and riding a trike! I joke that the reason I love sloths is because I relate to them. For both me and the kid I help with at my church group, our "run" is really just a fast walk, so I always say that we're a perfect fit for each other!

Got to do "Bikes and Boats" again tonight for the first time this season, and enjoyed it so much. I was trying to take it easy this first time (since I haven't done it in nearly a year) and made it just over 2 miles.

Slow-paced things...

Long, lazy weekend afternoons, especially in the summer when you can just kick back and enjoy the sunshine and the breeze in your hair.

Visiting botanical gardens- or any museum, really. We have a lovely botanical garden in Boothbay Harbor, and it can take hours to meander all the trails and see the planting displays. In the winter they hang light and so a special "Lights Aglow" stroll each night leading up to Christmas, and currently they have a display of trolls. I just love wandering thru botanical gardens- it's so peaceful and lovely.

Something new... Disney trips with no park tickets. We stay at a nicer resort and enjoy all that it has to offer, good meals and beverages, and just soak up the atmosphere. AKL is my favorite, but in August DD and I will spend 3 nights at the Poly, just "being."
