Three Things...Gratitude Thread

This is off-topic, but something I'd like to bring up. Silver Dollar City in Missouri has a seasonal Christmas light display that strongly resembles the Osborne Lights. Even though it purports not to be the same lights, it was apparently inspired by them. The Osborne Lights at DHS were my favorite public light display, and I miss them. I'm wondering if it's worth a trip sometime in December to see the similar display at Silver Dollar City? Have any of you done this before?

Would anyone from this thread be interested in meeting there for a couple of days in December (preferably midweek, for smaller crowds)? I thought it might be a good way to meet in person, as several here have said we've become a group of online friends. I also like the idea of meeting there because it's more towards the middle of the country, so for those who live in the contiguous US, no one would have to travel all the way from one coast to the other.

(I've been to Silver Dollar City once long ago, before it had this light display.)

Alright, alright, alright (in Matt M's voice...)

I got nothing. I can't think of a single exercise related thing.

HA HA!

1. Gets some of the creaks out
2. Playing ball with my girl (not frisbee though - remember what happens to frisbees...)
3. Hiking and seeing all the things God made

I enjoy Swimming, riding my adult trike and walks on paved areas in parks where a walker or rollator can be used.

This was taken in March, at the Visitors Center of the Channel Islands NP in Ventura, CA. It shows the plants that thrive there. It was a small area you could walk through.

I used to exercise daily even after my car accident but as the injury progressed I found I could not - the littlest thing set it off
So long after my 1st surgery I was very limited in what I could do - I’ve tried a few things but again the littlest things set it off as my muscles are hyperrfkexia - which means they are constantly ready to snap on guard at all times from the injury takes nothing to make them MAD for days & days
With that being said - I still try and find something I can do

Small walks - has to be small and with steroid shots in my back 👍👍👍 those are a life safer !! Help beyond measure last one year so far !!!

I’ve done aqua aerobics - except for fear of drowning didn’t get much out of it - dang they fill that pool UP - being short doesn’t help

And I’m done as everything else really makes my muscles hurt - BUT I’m open for suggestions - so if you have anything I’m ALL ears !!! Keep in mind my main injury is in my neck & lower back - so whatever it is can’t strain my neck - I have zero upper body muscles and never will as they cut them twice for surgery - those muscles are not coming back period ! I have limited use of arms - they work they are just numb - about 70% working - my neck us estimated at 30% working - so it will need to be light exercises no neck strain or twisting as it will mess up my metal - doesn’t take much shockingly so !! You would think that stuff would hold better 🤣🤣🤣 I’m waiting for my head to fall off 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Happy Monday Folks

I love working out!!!

#1 - I’m grateful for exercise being a great stress reliever.

#2 - I’m grateful for exercise making me stronger.

#3 - I’m grateful for exercise pushing me to meet fitness goals

#4 - I’m grateful for exercise helping me sleep better

#5 - I’m grateful for exercise keeping me on a good food regiment - no one wants to eat like garbage after they workout - who wants to waste a good workout by eating bad after.

#6 - I’m grateful for exercise keeping me in the same size clothes for many many years

#7 - I’m grateful for exercise giving me time to watch TV shows and movies that only I want to watch - love watching these on the treadmill, bike or elliptical

I can go on and on and on…..

Happy Monday🌻

Daisy Duck, if I lived closer or were able to easilt travel, I would enjoy meeting you and viewing the Christmas lights together. I hope others within our kind group of friends within this thread can join you. Meantime, God willing, one day when the pandemic has become a lot more settled, I would love to meet some of you should you ever travel out here to Disneyland especially to view the Candlelight Processional.

:grouphug:WDWEPCOT. Always saddens me when a friend is hurting. Thinking of you!

Excerise, I should get more of!

1 Grateful each day to God to have pain free and independent mobility.

2 Come warmer weather, I look forward to taking short walks with my dad in our neighborhood.

3 Good swimming memories.

I’m not asking for sympathy just as information - but I would not ever wish this on anyone - constant pain is horrible - it just never takes a day off - wears you out - you just want some relief - always searching for something to give you some relief - just not drugs

This sounds like a great idea, but I would not be able to attend. Thanks for asking us 🙂

I wonder if walking with a back brace on would help you. You don’t have to do any fast power walking, just at a pace that will slightly raise your heart rate.

Have you ever tried exercise bikes like this….

This may work well for you. They have them at Planet Fitness and I see all ages from the youngest to the oldest (and some are pretty elderly) using them.

It could not be this year, but it sounds like something we would love to do. We always travel to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge TN to see their lights, but also because they celebrate the real meaning of Christmas. A float in their Christmas parade.

Exercise Gratitude -

1) walking with my neighbor and her dog in the summer - I get exercise, fresh air, and love having the time to chat - plus a dog coming along is always a bonus!

2) like @slo said, watching TV shows or movies when I walk on the treadmill - it makes me look forward to my exercise routine.

3) free yoga videos on YouTube!

Exercise-related

Hmm...

I love a good stretch.

And a brisk walk, ideally outside (though, I am very grateful to have a treadmill right by a doorway with countryside views).

And that feeling of swimming underwater.

And cycling, of the low-key type (i.e. on cycle paths rather than battling with traffic!!)

And a refreshing shower afterwards. :D

We used to go to Silver Dollar City every few years or so. They do have a beautiful Christmas Display and similar to Dollywood mentioned above, I believe the focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

If you do end up going or putting a group together, DH and I could possibly meet you there! It would somewhat depend on dates and if DH qualifies for a trip that he's eligible for each year. It's always in December, but we don't know if he made it until sometime early September.

So, keep us in mind if you go!

3 Thing about Exercise:

I full admit I don't exercise as I should - I definitely need to do better for so many reasons! I feel as we get older, it's one of the top ways to help our bodies age gracefully.

1. My favorite way to exercise is to play tennis! I have always loved the sport and think it's great exercise.
2. I also enjoy walks in our neighborhood.
3. I enjoy finding new youtube videos to exercise to when the weather is bad outside.
